Besides custom made, are Coby's the only option for an RB25DE? Apparently Genie make headers for them, the guys at Autobarn are looking into price and availability today for me. Coby's look like a great option in terms of price..even after the international freight. Are Coby's available within Australia at all?
  2. Looks like these guys do them: http://www.street-to-strip.com.au/our-prod.../dash-kits.html http://www.street-to-strip.com.au/images/s...-white-dash.jpg http://www.street-to-strip.com.au/images/3...trim-carbon.jpg I've thought about buying adhesive carbon film to do some of the bits around the stereo and shifter area of my R34...they're only small sections and mostly flat. Has anyone tried that method? Good results? I might see what I can find over the weekend in terms of "good" CF Adhesive film..might give it a go.
  3. http://www.envyimports.com.au/shop/category19_1.htm I just happened to come across one of those when researching parts. Not sure if you've already visited that site, or if they just happen to have an identicle image, but hope that helps.
  4. Hey guys Thanks for the replies. I ended up getting the bits mid/late Feb and just remembered I'd posted this thread Some great replies there too. I had to lower my budget a bit due to unexpected expenses that managed to pop up but I think i still managed to do well considering how much I saved on the bits I bought. I ended up buying the Kenwood X8006U Head Unit, saved about $300. It covers the iPod control without purchasing any additional cables etc, has 3pairs of 5volt, covers the tuning aspects that I wanted and leaves me with room for expansion later on. I installed NV Splits up front and powerplant 2-ways in the rear shelf..the price was right for these parts and they don't sound too bad considering. And yes I had sound deadening fitted for the front speakers, though I'm considering doing the door skins as well later on. For reference, the NV Splits just fit. The installer had to cut into the plastic on the factory speaker mount to fit the depth, but I was told it just cleared. I was nearly going to get a pair of Orion splits (ex display models) which would have set me back around $400 a pair, though the saving was quite huge. I can't remember the model of these but they were almost like a miniature sub in design. As for the 15" sub...I would really like to sell it and buy a pair of 12" woofers (undecided which ones at this stage) and I may even do a custom enclosure to make the most of the R34 boot space. For now I'll just keep the sub though until such time as I'm ready to upgrade it...besides I'm saving towards getting exhaust work done at the moment so the sound system will be fine for now

Registering my interest for another group buy.
  6. Yeah unlucky...I wouldn't have been able to make it if I tried, the dentist had to give me three needles in the end, so I was quite numb for quite some time =/ I will hopefully will make it next week =) Nothing planned thus far, trying to keep that night free though I will be flying down NSW the night after. I haven't been to a trivia night in quite some time, should be great fun!
  7. that's unfortunate =/ I need new shockies something bad...if they fit I'd get em. Good luck with the sale!
  8. I'm still fairly new to the SAU forums and QLD for that matter...put my name down Mel =] Edit: Might have to make it the Tuesday after..I just remember I have a dental appointment at 5.15 which will see me not eating for a while =/
  9. I live around that area, will keep an eye out as well. There's nothing worse then one someone let alone breaks into your car, not to mention steal it, and thrash it in front of your eyes!! That's gotta hurt!!
  10. Hi all I'm in the process of working out my car audio setup for my 4 Door R34 and am a bit stuck on which front speakers to buy, and also which Head Unit to get installed. Speakers first: At the moment the decision is between JL Audio VR600CSI Splits, or the new Alpine Type R Splits. They will be running of a 4x60wrms Pioneer Amplifier (GM6300F). If I go the Type R splits, I will probably bridge the amp to feed them the juice and focus on the front staging as I am going for a sound quality focused install rather than just what's loud and clear. Now the question is, will these Type R components fit in the 4 Door R34? Has anyone had any experience with these speakers and skylines? The salesperson had concerns about the depth of the Type R speakers but said that there wouldn't be any problems with the JLs. However looking at paper specs the surface mount depth of the two speakers are the same? I would prefer the Alpine speakers and they're also going to cost a fair amount less at the moment which means I can put the money I save towards getting my doors skinned with deadener. As for the head unit: I was looking at a JVC KD-AVX11 to get the in between of DVD and a good deck with 7 band Equaliser. Then I discovered that they only had one set of preouts so I disregarded that head unit. After hearing a 3preout JVC DVD Source unit and then an Alpine equivalent, JVC is now out of the question! So I've narrowed decision down to the following non-dvd units to focus on sound quality at an affordable price as that's what counts when you're driving and aren't watching the screen: Pioneer DEH-P6950 Alpine CDA9885 As far as aesthetics and menu layouts etc.. go, I am leaning towards the pioneer, though I believe the Alpine to be marginally better in the sound quality. Note that the Pioneer unit has 7 band equaliser. Any experience, suggestions, advice on which way I should perhaps go with my head unit suggestion will be taken into consideration. Both are the same price. I'm looking at all aspects from sound quality, to build quality and functions features and what's going to be easier to live with using everyday. Thanks in advance Edit: Figure that a bit of a run-down of the rest of the system will be helpful Most of the components I already have from my previous car so they will be used..at least for now: GM5100T 2x125WRMS Bridgable GM6300F 4x60WRMS (will be used to power the speakers) Lightning Audio Strike 15" Single Coil in 1.5Cu.Ft. 4Gauge Schneider OFC Gold 4Guage in 2x 8Gauge out Fused Distribution Block 2x Sony RCA Signal Leads 1x Jaycar RCA Signal Leads I would like to replace the 15" sub with 2x12" woofers as I listen to all types of music and for some certain Genres I prefer to have an in between of tight bass and low deep bass..but that may come later, I'll just use what I have for now.

Another from Wollongong aye? Where abouts in Gong ?
  12. Near Mount Gravatt Lookout and Red Rooster? Is there another one other than the one in The Village Mt Gravatt on Logan Road? I've never noticed, then again I've only been in this part of Brizzy for a couple of months. I'll have to drive past tomorrow and check it out Edit: Looks like I may have to give this one a miss this time round...just found out a friend of mine is having a birthday and doing something tomorrow night so I'll be there instead.
  13. Spotted a gunmetal gray R32 with custom taillights on the way home this arvo on mains road
  14. http://www.doranproaudio.com.au/home/contact.asp Doran Pro Audio is located at Unit 6/42 Canterbury Road, Bankstown NSW 2200
  15. No Limit used to have a store in Wollongong for a short time. If the store in Campbeltown is anything like the one they had in Wollongong I would definitely recommend. I dealt with the part-owner of the Wollongong store and he definitely knows his product! They also done a VERY good price on a pair of Eclipse 10" Woofers for one of my mates...particularly considering that they were an order in item and not off the shelf. It doesn't hurt to shop around but if you're looking to get an install job done as well, you'll probably have more chance at cutting a good supply/install deal with a reputable car audio place that does all it's installs in-house rather than a retailer like JB that generally contracts out the installs as there's little to no room to work out a good price on the install component.
  16. Lucky I don't have to endure it much =] Most businesses would avoid it as upgrading to vista generally means upgrading other software packages which in some cases can result in massive dollars. Not to mention retraining of not so adaptable staff. Suddenly the cost and benefit of going to Vista aren't as great and having different platforms all over the company can become more of a headache than it's worth when buying new computers. This is one of the reasons why the company I work for still runs Windows 2000 as their server. I wasn't aware that Windows 7 was due for release next year...it's been about 2 years that I've worked in a technician capacity and I haven't been as much into the I.T side of things for a while. Though given the way that the Vista was release date was pushed months ahead time and time again, it wouldn't suprise me if the same happens for Windows 7. Microsoft is also going to have a hard time trying to push out yet another OS in such a short time period..by that I mean justifying it all based on the flaming that they got for their short time period releases of Windows between 95 and XP. Anyways, getting a bit of the original topic. Either way I think it's best to go for a Quad Core regardless of what OS is being used due to the benefits in multi-threading to having less cores and higher speed, regardless of which OS you use, applications and games will simply adapt to multiple cores.
  17. I really don't think anything can be as bad as WinME...even Micro$oft does a good job at acting as though it never existed lol WinME was a disaster as they just built up more on a bug-filled OS and made it a lot harder for technicians and enthusiasts to get into the core of the system. Vista was built from the ground up. Just give it time. I'm not saying Vista is the best and greatest...my main PC doesn't have Vista, my laptop however does so I just left it. Eventually XP will phase out as has 98 cause Microsoft will do everything they can to push their new OS.
  18. A 64 Bit OS is really required to run 4GB of RAM, though don't expect everything to run on a 64 Bit OS if you plan on running it as a primary OS. Vista will be better once it matures and programs/games are built around it. Just like the transition from 98 to XP. Vista actually multiple threads and CPU cycles better than XP does (an article on AtomicMPC explains this better). Hence why a Quad Core CPU would be better value than a Dual Core once applications really start to take advantage of the multiple cores. Also particularly with quads being a lot better value than they were half a year ago, the demand for applications / games to better utilise them is now higher and would put more pressure on developers to take advantage of it. Vista is required for DX10 gaming, though I believe that an update for DX 9 would basically emulate DX10? It's been a while I've been in the PC Gaming/Enthusiast scene so that may need a bit of clarification. For now I would use XP where possible for gaming due to the lower system usage..though if your a bit of a techy you'll know that there are a lot of ways to make Vista run a lot more efficiently and disable a lot of things that you may not need.

Well I've made a few posts, but I guess I should more importantly post here My names Nathan, moved up to Brizzy from Wollongong a bit over two months ago. Live in the Mount Gravatt area, I drive a Silver R34 25GT, had her for bit less than a month now so she's all standard...but all in due time Looking forward to getting into the SAU community and the events!
  20. Skylines + Coffee..Doesn't get better than that Where's Stone's Throw Corner? I'm familiar with Coffee Club Logan Road, live not too far. I'm still fairly new to Brizzy and SAU..haven't been to any SAU events yet, might start with this one
  21. I would go the Core 2 Quad (G0 Stepping), I have one myself. If you're a bit technically minded, it doesn't take much at all to get the Core 2 Quad to run at around the 3GHz mark. You'll find that a quad core is going to be a lot better as more applications are starting to take advantage of multi-threading capabilities.
  22. Not adjacent to Pit Top by any chance? I noticed that one of the 4 door silver R34s near my work (Pit Top) had a SAU sticker on the windshield.
  23. Hey all I'm new to the forums, had my R34 for exactly a week now =] Thought this would be a good place to make my first post. I have a Silver R34 25GT 4 Door (factory standard), there's a couple of Silver R34s very similar near where I work, Coopers Plains, not sure if they're on this forum though. I see quite a few Skylines travelling between Coopers and Mt Gravatt, always look to see if I get a wave
