When I got defected first off, the cop said I could only tow the car everywhere, which was bullshit. Just take some proof to the local cop shop, and you should be fine! My car was still registered, though...
-
Nope. I was double defected and I got the same clearance from the cop shop!
-
Jenkies, where'd you get your pod filter cover from?!
-
You need proof that you've fixed/repaired/replaced the items in question on the defect.

Should We Put A Stop To Organised 'regular' Cruises

Spot on. Modify your car in a smart/stealth way, you won't attract any attention. Spray the front mount black, etc. Save the chrome for the show cars, which are purposely built to never see the road. -
Oooohhhh yep. That makes sense.

Love the 3D dash in the Soarer's! My mate has one - the V6 twin turbo. Very nice cars!
-
Why would you have to register the car as a 2 seater if you installed after-market bucket seats which are ADR approved?!

Nearly as good as communicating with your local member of parliament!! F*cking useless. Their PA sends back a letter saying "Thank you." -

American Muscle cars and old school hot rods are in a completely different category. Do you ever see a 1950's hot rod with a defect on it?! No. If the car was built pre-1972, then most of the ADR's that Regency goes by do not matter. They simply don't get defected for say, over-sized rims, or extra-wide tyres. These types of cars don't get any bad media attention. You don't see P platers in a fatal hot rod crash? No. So called 'hoon' drivers don't drive hot rods. That's why these guys don't get hassled... Bingo! Neil can't be everywhere. He can't over-see what cop pulls us over. Sure, Neil might not defect us, but another cop will. Simple fact. Spot on. At the end of the day, he could just be another low-ranked traffic cop. What kind of authority does he have in regards to notifiying all of SAPOL to basically give SAU members 'immunity' against defects?! Sure, sending him an e-mail might sound great, but will be have any sort of power to push it up the ranks? More than likely, no. Sure, it's a start, but it won't remove the heat from the imports. And does anyone know about ns.com and the cop 'Mallala Cop' who's a registered and active user on the ns.com and r31 Club forum? He provides good feedback and input into the forums about a wide variety of issues. How about we invite Neil to join up to SAU so he can input his opinions and feedback? It can provide us with valuable information which we know is true, legit and not a "I heard that you can have this" or "4 out of 8 people on the phone at Regency told me this" post. Here's a Mallala Cop thread: http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/index.p...;hl=mallala+cop And, by having a 'locked' sub section in the forum is useless. You'll get 'undercover' cops signing in on user names with more than the required amount of posts and taking a squiz at the forum. Just stick to PM's or SMS's about cruises. -
Lol. This place is like next door to my house. I'll come down for a squiz.

Haha thanks mate. It gets the job done!! Spotted a chick driving Dare Ya going along Elizabeth Road last night in Christies. I was across the road hopping into the white GTR! I never new a chick owned that car? Very nice!!

Ah... funny stuff. All these threads are going out the window...

...uncalled for?!!

When consumer spending/confidence rises again! Hence why interest rates are so low - to encourage consumer spending to bump up the economy!

Same here.

My mate drove around for over a year with a old school 1984 Cressida with a 4.5" straight through exhaust with no mufflers, no cat, no nothing. Sounded like a beast but backfired constantly due to a hole in the manifold. Got pulled over many, many times. Pulled into defect stations, etc. Never got defected. Why? Because it looks like a grandpa car. It had blinds on the rear window. Cops had no idea what it was, so they left it alone.
-
Yeah could have been me if it was on Sunday? It could have been dark, dark blue? It was going in the opposite direction (towards the city). Did it have P plates up?
-
F*cking spot on. Has happened to my good mate, too!
-
F*cking spot on the mark there, Pete! Couldn't agree more. Lol I work in Government. I have all the time in the world! Hahahah Yep, spot on. I've been on many of their cruises (Mega Cruise, Dawn Cruise and a handful of others) and they attract a massive range of cars... and also peoples driving abilities!
-
Lol I'd be scared just driving that thing in the city!! The orange paint and the number plate say it all!! Kye, have you kept a defect tally for you?! Pretty sure you'd be in the 20+ mark hahah And yes, I agree with Ryan. Do we really need to get even more involvement with the police? We're on borrowed time. One cop cannot control the entire force...

Spotted a dark gray 32 GTR and a black 32 GTR going down South road yesterday!
-
Lol @ the any weapons comment!! "Yeah, I've got 5 AK-47's from Russia under the passenger seat, a few RPG's in the back seat and... yeah... don't bother looking in the boot!"

Half with you, Roo. It's good to see that there are decent cops out there. I, too, have had great experiences with the police when being pulled over, and each time I'm co-operative and don't give any attitude. On that note, do all police have the same form of training in regards to defects? As it seems that some of them are real car enthusiasts who really know their stuff, yet others can't tell a tacho from a boost gauge. I'm just worried that if I do get pulled over, and asked "Do you have a blow-off valve in here?" and I respond with "Yeah - the standard factory one" that they'll come back with "Turbo cars never came with blow off valves..." And yes, this has happened to me before and yes, I got defected (for this and other things back in my old car). The cop told me "Any sort of modification on the car when it comes out of the factory is illegal." But we all know, that is just crap. I think if all traffic police were trained sufficiently, and the defects were given out for legitimate defects (looking at an exhaust and saying "Yep, that looks like it'll be loud" and whacking on a defect for an excessively loud exhaust is not right. How about they actually get a db meter and check it?!) All of our attitudes towards traffic cops would change. But, in the real world, we will always encounter cops on a power trip, no matter how sweet/nice/agreeing we are with them. Sure, this one cop you encountered was great, but what are the chances of being pulled over by him again? I once got defected for an 'aftermarket front grill'. Yes, I had 20cm's of mesh in place of a 20cm plastic grill with Mazda written on it. Is this counted as structural integrity? No. Was this a legitimate defect? According to Regency, no. This was simply a cop on a power trip. You hear about this shit all the time. “I got defected for not having a rear windscreen wiper” or “I got defected for my blinker blinking too fast”... and yes, they are true!! If your car is defectable, and you're aware of it, then cop it on the chin. You're taking that risk, so you're going to have to deal with the repercussions. If you have a WRX with 22” Vault chrome rims on it, and scrubbing the guards every time you turn a round-about, don’t cry about it if you get defected. But, if you want to keep things legal in the eyes of Regency, then that’s when Engineers certificates come into play. The issue here is, you get pulled over, you have huge brakes but you have an engineer’s certificate to prove that they’re legal, tested and are compliant to ADR standards. You show that to the cop, and 90% of them won’t even know what it is/care what it is. They will still defect you, even though, it’s legal! You go to Regency, you show them the certificate and they give you the tick! But, we’ve now wasted xxx amount of money just to get the car inspected by Regency all because the cop didn’t know/care about the engineers certificate. Why have them if 90% of cops don’t read them or don’t even know what they are?! At the end of the day, most cops are great. Some are car enthusiasts and others just love the power trip. Unfortunately, it’s the luck of the draw to which cop you get pulled over by... And you see A LOT more un-roadworthy rust buckets on the road. These are the cars deemed unsafe in a crash. I cannot see how an unsecured pod filter would deem your car un-roadworthy or dangerous in a crash... but then again, the law is the law. Regency is there for 2 reasons: revenue raising and car inspections. What would I do if I was a cop for a day? I’d pull over every single Commodore with stock wheels on the rear and a huge RIP Brock sticker on the rear window and defect them for bald tyres. Am I being stereotypical? Maybe. These are the types of people who give a bad name to others. And on a good note, the other day when my battery in the GTR went flat again, I got the RAA around. Turns out that the RAA guy was a ex-Regency inspector! He gave the GTR a quick run down and said it was great with no obvious defects. If you modify your car in a smart way, and stay away from all the huge chrome and body kits, you'll attract less attention! It's good to see that SAU have a decent reputation with the police! Ns.com are trying to rebuild their reputation with the police, though. And I'm sure after the 200 Today Tonight hoon stories and YouTube busted stories, that we all by now know that cops do read these forums and do search YouTube! /End Oh, and I have to say, it's good having Roo in SAU, as it gives us a different opinion/outlook on these matters (I'm not saying everyone else here is young and immature). Top job, Kellie and Roo!
