  7. I have a 1997 RS4 Stagea with 4 speed Auto. I have got a problem that when I cruise at 70km/hr or above the car seems to pulse. It does not do it when accelerating or when crusing below 70. I have changed fuel filter, plugs and had checked the coil packs for resistance values and all seem ok. I done this as the fault seem to act like a miss fire. The car has been checked on a diagnostic tested and all fuel and engine management appear to be ok. I have the injectors cleaned and the gearbox flushed and new oil put in. I had the auto box replaced and I am now wondering if the electrics / sensors on the auto box are causing the problem. I have been told the transmisson is ok. So I have narrowed problem to coil packs, but all the threads on here say there coil packs gave them a miss fire at 4000rpm or above were mine pulses at 2500rpm when crusing. The car does no do it under 60kph or when cold as I can drive the car at any speed for about 10 minuets without the pulsing. If it is not the coil packs the next thing I was thinking was fuel pump maybe, could a faulty airflow meter cause this? I am getting the rear tyres replaced this weeks as they are shot and I will be getting the wheel alinament checked to see if this might be a cause. Can anyone offer any advice or has anyone experinced a similar problem. My email is [email protected] and contact number is 0423 474 985 Cheers Paul
  8. Cheers for that. I just wanted to get a handle on how thristy they are, and if my problem was fuel related.
  9. Thanks for that. I have a stupid question now what is the SAFCII? Also are you in Rockingham, Perth by any chance...if so were did you take your car to get tuned. Cheers Bakes70
  10. Can anyone tell me roughly how many k's I should get out of a full tank of fuel in a 97 RS4 Stagea in standard form. I have just clocked my last ful tank at 360k's which seems very low? If this is the can fault coil packs cause this high consumption as the car does not appear to be running rich. However I do have this pulsing problem over 70kmh as posted on another thread. Does anyone have any ideas Cheers Bakes70
  11. Thanks for the info guys I am still unsure wether my problem is fuel related or electrical
  12. Thankyou for this info. I will try this. I will be gutted if this is all my problem is as I have spent a few dollars trying to troubleshoot fault. Did you get the problem at all speeds or once you went over a certain speed, as my car does not start to pulse/shudder until I get to 70kph or above. I will let you know how I get on. Cheers bakes70
  13. Does anyone know were I can download a labelled engine diagram. Also can anyone tell me were the fuel pump is on a RS4 Stagea? Are these know to cause problems. Cheers bakes70
  14. Gary, Thanks for that mate. All four tyres are 215/50 ZR 17. I have booked the car in to have the wheel alinment checked and that the wheels are all balanced correctly? I am just trying to eliminate factores that could be causinging this problem. I am beginning to worry that it might be a gearbox problem. The car did not have this problem before I had a replacement box fitted. It could be coincidence and the coil packs have given up the ghost or it could be the gear box or a problem with a diff. Do you have any ideas? Cheers Paul
  15. I have posted a thread last week concerning a fault I have with my 97 RS4 4speed auto were the car seems the pulse when cruising at 70k's or over (the car is soomth as below 70kph). I have replaced plugs, fuel filters, had injectors cleaned, gearbox flushed and new oil put in. I was thinking it was coil packs so have some Splitfires on order. Any way I was under the car at the weekend and I have noticed my rear tyres are like racing slicks on about a 1/3 on the inside of the tyre. This has only happened in a month after I have had a replacement gearbox. This got me wondering if the Stageas suffer with diff lock...were the diffs get wound up..or somthing like that. Is this possible to happen on a AWD? If it does I am pretty sure this would destroy the tyres in such a short space of time and explained the jerky drive. Can anyone help me? Cheers Bakes70
  16. Hi thankyou for the advice. I have heard that the coil packs are famous for leaking. I am in Perth so if anyone has a spare set of coil packs for me to try I would be very interested. They did look good but I guess they only need a slightest crack to cause a leak, if it is them it does explain the feeling when driving of a misfire. If it was the coil packs would this happend at all speeds as my problem only seems to happen once I get over 70kmh. I have also cleaned the air filter (k&n) but I will check air box. Thanks again Paul I forgot to say that
