  1. As I said, my new motor has a pair of custom Garrett's ready to go on it, I felt that I could put together a combo that was better suited to the particular engine + what I intend to do with it than an off the shelf turbo available from HKS or Garrett. If the budget allowed it I would have gone with a pair of Innovative Turbos, with titanium compressor wheels.... but I'm a cheapskate. Oh and I don't think TRY-09S is a valid example, that car should have gone alot quicker imo, and everyone knows nitrous is just a bandaid for poor tuning
  2. Hah and so did Brett!
  3. Hey Brendan, you made it onto fullboost at least
  4. Oh and Keir is pretty much sponsored by Trust and OS Gherkin now, so I doubt you'll see him choose another company's products over them, no matter what the result. John's running a GCG special now, some big f*ck off single XTR ball bearing number. Expect to see quite a number of chickens and stray cats sucked into the bellmouth of that thing.
  5. Woa, I didn't mean to add to the assault on SK's school of thought. I have been more inclined to agree with SK's way of thinking regarding turbos, based on a few facts. 1) Having GCG as my local turbo outlet 2) Getting trade discount at GCG (25%) 3) Going by their list prices (which are outrageous for Garrett's, and totally Rene Rivkin on HKS) 4) Having researched a fair bit into engines, and being able to match a turbo properly to the output and characteristics of a particular engine Number 4 is more important than any other point, and if you don't have reliable information regarding a product, then you cannot use it. Period. Then again you can rely on someone else's opinion on what will work (follow the HKS catalogue) and based on previous experience, be prepared to be let down. In racing you can't afford such risks, so again SK comes out in front.
  6. Naw, get as much power as you can and then fry someone else's tyres
  7. I think the Z series diffs interchange with the R31, they are the long nose type. Alas, I don't know what sort of centers the Z's have in them - ask John (Boosted Zed).
  8. V-Spec have active lsd's, you need to run the whole pump setup if you go that way. p.s. buy an aftermarket lsd off me, bitch!
  9. Guys, there is no difference. It's just HKS have done some homework + put together some combinations of Garrett parts, and put some sort of exclusive manufacture contract into place as well on the availability of some of the items. Any person with knowledge of compressor maps etc + a Garrett catalogue can put together a combination that works. I don't have much faith in the GCG chuffmaster range of highflows, but that's just their interpretation of what works. HKS combo's have been proven to work, time and time again. ps. I stole the "chuffmaster" comment from someone, it's damn funny and... accurate. Edit: My new motor is using a combination of Garrett parts that I've put together (and hope work), so feel free to bag me out on my interpretation on what works Edit: Actually there are a few custom touches that HKS do on their range, such as a larger variety of turbine housing with a T25 flange, ported shrouds with well contoured ram tube inserts, and those funky aerodynamic lock nuts on the large frame turbos (that anodizing on the T51R series looks special) Edit3: And HKS turbos are actually pretty well priced compared to pure Garrett ones - it's those f*cken large, big named shops that milk the Jap names/reputations that put a stupid price on the stuff to exploit the masses. Edit4: And I'll be damned if I ever buy a product off those large "tuning" shops ever again!! Damn it really p1sses me off to no end, + it's the reason why I started importing parts for myself in the 1st place. Edit5: And it's those damn shops that some people in this thread are sticking up for! RARR!!!1!!
  10. Great pics there Andrew, that swift looks crazy!
  11. Unplug the thing, take out the bulb in the dashboard. That's all there is to it on a 33... well, at least all I've got done to my car. Adrian's hooking up mad with his suspension setup, I think he has a whiteline kit?
  12. I've got some vid footage of most of the Skyline runs - will transfer it over to hdd + host it. The cars look sooo damn slow from up in the stands
  13. Andrew, your T.S. was slower because your car was so neat + tidy. If you take less care with your car, it goes faster. I think there's half a Sidchrome set floating around in the engine bay, as well as a bag of bolts leftover sitting in the center console that I don't know where they go...
  14. Rear suspension: Hicas disconnected Solid alum bushes HKS Hyper D on some harsh setting 9kg/mm springs (12 on front) Putting on the HKS drag shocks for the next meeting, going to change the exhaust housing sometime soon too. Troy, are there any lap records? I can't drive for crap though, that's the sad thing - you've still got that footage of me "drifting" (aka loosing it coming out of a corner an spearing off into the mud doing a 180' spin). I think there's still pics on the net of me "drifting" in the purple 180SX - doing the same 180 deg spin/ off the drag.
  15. I got alot of help and asked a ton of questions, both Brett + Adrian gave me some useful tips.... well actually Brett's tips on burnouts made me stall the car, but I appreciate them all the same And his tyres Edit: I know it's a lame excuse, but I went from 2nd to 5th in the 12.09 run.. so maybe it has a bit more left in it before I change a few things.
  16. Was running Brett's slightly worn 245 Nitto's on 16 inch R32 GTR rims.
  17. Disclaimer: As I posted previously, after getting 4 hours sleep per night over a week I was in no condition to remember alot of finer details regarding output..... This is the condition of tune my car was in from 12:30am Sat morning, and ran a best of 12.09 @123MPH. How d'ya like them apples?
  18. Andrew should have a ton of the Skylines somewhere. What's up with HiOctane, they like taking burnout pics? They even got a pic of my biggest burnout of the day....
  19. Tyres for sure. With a HKS 2530 (220rwkw) + 265/35/18 Dunlop R rears I could only spin them by popping the clutch or taking a corner pretty fast and booting it midway. That was with ultra stiff HKS Hyper D suspension.
  20. Flat changing - not taking your foot off the accelerator when changing gear. Gets mad seconds, thirds, fourths etc... hurts the drivetrain (and motor if no rev limiter) Double clutching - releasing the clutch in neutral between gear changes. Takes ages to change gears, but will at least go into gear if having syncro issues or hard to shift boxes.
  21. It's the o-ring. I had a split one (was crimped when putting in the injector) for about 2,000k's. Was dribbling fuel out the whole time, too lazy to change it. With the top feed injectors you need to loosen the fuel rail (two bolts) and remove the offending injector to get to the o ring. You can do it yourself, although the workshop that's done all the work should replace it out of courtesy (hell they should have noticed it and fixed it when they had the car). It's a bit of a pain the the ass with the standard intake manifold, as access is a bit restricted. There's nothing that hot on the intake side that would ignite the fuel, but having said that a spark from a loose earthing point could ignite it.
  22. Name your price How many pairs do you need? Edit: Have got an S2 pink AFM too, will email you.
  23. I kept falling asleep because of the breaks, the chaos over the eliminations ladder, the timing gear breaking down, and the delays which put the programme ~2 hours behind schedule kinda made it crappy. But a strong SAU contingent made the day great. Great meeting new people from the forums, and then (cause we are all in the same class) racing against them was tops - the people made the event. Brett's some sort of SAU Drag mascot - was there to lend a big hand, storage and tools facility all in one. Breaking my drag racing hymen was kinda funny too, I was expecting to be all nervous with the crowd + having no idea but it was actually very relaxing. I only got aggitated from not being able to do a burnout (the advice of "touch the breaks" left me stalling the car, have decent pads in the back for track work) and launching pretty damn sad. Heh the aggression paid off, with me flatchanging off the revlimiter + eventually damaging the shifter. Highly recommend doing it again, i think an SAU streetmeet would crap all over the DC event.
  24. Hey yeah, where's the fruit of your labor Andrew? I wanna see some pics! And how can I get a media pass? If not for the girls waiting on you, just to gag the announcers
  25. Slip emailed, best run of the day was: 60': 2.00 330' : 5.32 660': 7.995 1000': 10.240 ET: 12.090 MPH: 123.00 Reaction time was .622
