What's with all the people using the "sump baffle" line as a reason not to participate? p.s. stop skimping on gear and go straight for a stage 5 dry sump
-
Aftermarket plenums make very little difference with outright power figures with under ~250rwkw. Not enough airflow to max out the standard manifold. The basis for this comment is dyno'ing my R33 with a Greddy plenum, vs. an R33 with standard intake manifold. Same workshop, same tuner. Ok they weren't exactly the same induction setup (HKS 2530 vs 2535, different frontmount) but they were close enough that it shouldn't matter (intercoolers were ample for the task, both had uprated fuel systems, PowerFC's, tuned conservatively rich, 1 bar on both). The mechanic was surprised that such a beautiful and expensive item did not make 400rwkw on it's own. There is some more power to be made by adding the larger throttle body too. Changing plugs is a different matter. As for response, that's going to be a seat-of-the-pants type experience that is difficult to measure properly... I could have sworn I gained throttle response by adding stickers though. All good in theory, does anyone have a realistic way of measuring this?

Jeff Watson had an FJ20 in that thing, and the Sammut guys had a SOHC VL motor - even with the change over to a 300xz I don't think they changed their running gear, was more for aerodynamics.
-
I was checking out Andra's site and noticed that the Sammut Brothers still hold both the E.T. and terminal speed records in their class: 7.92 seconds with a 172.24MPH (277.18). Was set in March '99. Does anyone have any of the old articles on this car, in particular their engine setup? Another surprise was that Grant Williams still holds his record of 8.68/162Mph in his class. Would have thought with all the rotors going around that would have been broken.

Apex'i Power FC v's Greddy E-mannage
DoughBoy replied to adznight's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
$3500 in container fees to ship your car to and from Japan. ~$AU600 to tune it (labor fees are alot more there than here). Nice tune. Sure it wouldn't be cheaper to get a PowerFC in the long run? -
Apex'i Power FC v's Greddy E-mannage
DoughBoy replied to adznight's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
It's somewhat true that no matter how great your setup is, it is only going to be as good as the person tuning it. Not many people are familiar with the E-manage, which is why I changed to a PowerFC. -
I felt more than pleasure .. I always thought that letters published here were ficticious stories until one day I opened my door to find two swedish air hostesses holding a jar of mayonaise.. Is that how the story goes?

Is that price each or for both?

Ok, the mods on the car for that run were : RB25, HKS 1.2mm gasket, HKS 2530, Trust 600x290x115 intercooler, Greddy intake plenum, GT-R 440cc injectors, HKS dump pipe, 3 inch no cat, 1 resonator exhaust, PowerFC, HKS EVC4. The problem was the EVC wasn't set up properly. It started off pumping up to 1.4bar then dropping off to .7 by the end. I would like to have done another power run with the EVC set up properly, but I've since sold the turbo and was too damn lazy to set up the EVC. I think at 1.4 bar boost it should have been ok.

Internal or external wastegate...???
DoughBoy replied to S14Drift!'s topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Hey MattR, what sort of turbo setup are you running? A TD06-17c? Bolted on to the standard manifold? You have 268 rwkw? Sorry, just curious as to your trust setup. -
Damn, now I know what is wrong with my car. I need to get my hands on 1 2340 turbo.
-
Steve, here's a dyno printout of a HKS 2530 on an RB25. Usual excuses, had boost problems, running too rich, my mother's cat died and upset my gearbox etc...

I think a couple of issues prevented more people from racing, like the high entry cost and the limited amount of time there were cars actually out there on the track....

Urgent!! HELP!! Greddy Plenum for R33 GTST..
DoughBoy replied to sidewaymambo's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
TPS, AFM, RPM, O2, water temp all assist the ECU making decisions on fuel requirements. Some aftermarket ones use different inputs. There might be more like MAP etc. -
Urgent!! HELP!! Greddy Plenum for R33 GTST..
DoughBoy replied to sidewaymambo's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
A Silvia or 180SX throttle cable fits. A GT-R has the same connectors to suit the Q45 throttle body, and have never seen the manual so can't help on the 3rd quiz. -
Depends on application and personal tastes. I don't think that a GT2530 is too small for an RB25, great response and nearly feels like a naturally aspirated motor.
-
I am after an RB25DET motor, preferably a rebuildable one. I don't need any external parts like turbo, injectors, alternator, clutch, igniters. Also would like NSW people - unless you can get a good deal on freight. Please email me at this address.

/cough $3500!!! Ok that was a shameless plug, but there is not much price difference between a brand new td06-20g kit and a T88 kit. Maybe you should be comparing your setup to a motor with a T88 and internals as well? Edit - Like Leewah's?
-
One last thing... the Garrett GT3540 is rated at around 700hp? The Trust TD06-20g at 450? Standard internals as well on the Trust car? Not sure if it should be any competition anyways...

The garage cleanout continues! HKS 2835R Internal wastegate One used HKS turbo, includes actuator. Has T25 flange, bolts up to standard SR20 exhaust manifold - requires a spacer plate to suit an RB20/25. HKS rated at 420hp. SOLD Trust TD06-20G Turbo Kit RB20/25 Used, includes tuned length stainless exhaust manifold, Type R wastegate, Trust turbo, AFM to turbo pipe. Both the front housing and the front pipe have been polished. $3500 HKS Hypermax R33 coilovers Used, adjustable both on height and rebound. Pretty firm ride, great for circuit use. $1800 Edit: D'oh, it's to suit an ECR33 Trust TD06-20G Turbo kit 13B Used bolt on kit to suit 13B rotary, can be modified to suit RB20/25 just like Rob77's setup. $2500 Trust stainless exhaust manifold + Type R wastegate - RB20/25 Used items, perfect condition $2000 HKS EVC 4 Used item, works perfect (when set up!). Was installed in my car. $500 Q45 90m AFM Used item, perfect working order. Uncommon part, great for PowerFC users. $350 Split dump-pipe Stainless steel, to suit HKS 25-series turbos. Was fitted to my R33. $300 Front mount intercooler Small front mount intercooler, came out of an R32 but would suit most cars. Uses standard intercooler holes so no cutting. No pipes. $500 Please email me at this address regarding these. Pictures will be uploaded at this webpage.

No offence, but you bought the Skyline you are driving around already with the Garrett turbo on it. You had no imput whatsoever into the design of the motor or turbo setup, nor did you have any financial or availability concerns determining what turbo the car was going to run. There's more than just a flat out money decision when purchasing a turbo. Edit: How can you compare a dyno'd car with an unproven value? You can't make a valid comparison on the vehicles power...
