  1. Yeah had r888's before, were okay, but car was pig dog so couldn't blame them for the average times I was doing. I guess it's just their rep that puts me off now. And I was told the Hankook mediums and kumho mediums were softer than the gg comp r888's.. Ahh decisions decisions
  2. Mmm disappointing news on the federals. I was leaning that way. So it's kinda down to the kumho or the kooks. A mate got some delivered for 1850 I think and the kumho's will be 1760 so not much in it.
  3. whaaat? Is this why they have come down in price I wonder??
  4. Thanks for the detailed reply mate, much appreciated. The federals really sound good, but I'm a little scared about the wet weather side of things. The pattern doesn't look all that weather friendly either. The fact the kumho's sound like they give good life and grip til almost bald is pretty enticing. In my car fixing days I noted a lot of the targa cars ran the kumho's too so they can't be too bad in the wet. But the feddies still sound like the best bang for buck. And I hear you on the achillies, I shouldn't snob them. They seem well liked, and Definatly go alright in the wet, I guess I just see them as another RSR, rt615 or ku36, a glorified street tire. If I was a cashed up $uperlaper I'd go the z221 or ao50's no questions lol. But I'm just a pleb!
  5. thanks duncan, my bad. south pole - tassie. it feels like it atm too, a balmy 0 degrees at 7am and a top of 10.... found my local guy, duh. the guy i get most of my stuff from, revolution. i've started another thread, probably should of just stuck with this one. i should prob ease up on the coffee
  6. hi guys, i know there is already a couple of tyre threads but just wanna narrow it down to sprints, which here are on 60 second tracks and are 4 laps and some hill climbs. car is 33 gtst, reasonable amount of weight removed, would be around 1300kg I'd guess. 350 killawasps basic aero bilsteins and the usual stuff running 18x9.5's all round I'm more focused on sprints than hill climbs but want something suitable for both.. and the one or two time attack events we have here in the apple isle. I'm looking @ - Kumho V70a mediums (quoted at 440 per tyre) -Hankook Z221 mediums (about 480 per tyre) -Federal FZ 201 Mediums (365 per tyre but plus postage) or there is talk of these achillies 123's but my gut says no. (cheap as chips) kumho's are well liked by the locals and have proven to be fast, not usre about hill climbs tho. hankooks have a great rep Federals sound good, will the mediums do both the sprints and hill climbs? and the ye olde achilles, have been used locally, although was wet and proved to be quite fast. gut still says no.... please, your experiences. something that will do both and naturally looking best bang for buck... cheers Edit - also wet weather performace counts. dont expect them to be 100% but must be able to deal with a damp surface, it is tassie.
  7. more to the point where are people getting their V70a's??????????
  8. I think I'm gonna get some v70a's, I understand they like quite high pressures, as in 30 cold min, my question is, hard or medium comp for my car. 33 gtst 320-350 killawasps super sprints, time attack and hill climbs. Will the hards be too hard?? Anyone?
  9. Made up some fully mad blank plates to block some unwanted openings in my front bar. Only got one strip to go the other opening will be for my brake ducting. Probably don't need brake ducting for a super sprint/hill climb car but what the hell. Also playing around with some canard/dive plates just fiddly stuff. Cost nothing to do as the material is laying around. Got a new oil cooler kit and accusump kit planned and sussed out too. Dropped my new rear wheels off today to be soda blasted so they can get and coat of ye old bleck. Gonna shitcan my original surge tank setup, and go with one of the proflow 5 litre jobs, just a bit neater and will do the job nicely. Also went and spoke to Steve Caplice thismorning, and the news was all good. The car is legal to do the events I'm shooting for, and a bonus was he said my car can Infact be log booked for events up to state level competition, which means it could be passed for super series. That's not what I'm planning on but nice to know it could be done. The old snotter will be lapping in the not too distance future, biggest hurdle is gonna be car trailer. Til i've got one its gonna be a 'bar off job' to transport it. Not ideal but doable I guess.
  10. cool. yep i removed that stuff too. and if you happen to go down that road of lexan, i saved 2.5kg each door, and about 4.5kg's in the rear screen. another 2.5kg's (each) in instrusion bars if you havent removed them, ofcourse if its still a regular streeter maybe leave them there. love the car mate, keep it up.
  11. so much awesome. do you know what you saved on the boot frame, hinges and lock? would have to be 5kgs atleast you'd think. also how did the gurney flap test go?
  12. did you notice much in the wing etc? a mate runs the same wing on his 33 and he said he noticed a fair bit of difference kay, i see 2 seconds, massive
  13. Ahh I had the exact same wheels which also went black. + 32 front & + 38 rear I think ( was years ago) same as yours 17x8 & 9. Good wheels
  14. Awesome, love to see 33 gtst builds, keep up the good work!
  15. well some old fat supra nerd that was at the track last time i was there was ranting on to me about 30ish cold 38 hot and some some snoozer in a 32 gtr was at 36 hot i think. i ran them at about 30 hot but can't take any notice of that back then the car had more issues than amy winehouse
  16. Loving the build just finished reading the thread twice. Something that is bugging me tho, I wasn't going to mention but the clear coating of alloy parts, I have to question the longevity. Unless its a special industrial type coating I'm not familiar with. I'm a ex panel beater, and a few years ago when I was still working we made some tools, mounts and some other odds n ends, some alloy but most steel, clear just does not stick very well and chips easily. In the end we prepped it with 180, etched them, few coats of silver then cleared and the bits were much more chip resistance. Also racing clear or 'fast clear' was even less resistant. I hope it works out for you but something to consider.
  17. Like the carbon plates over the unused openings in the bar, might have to make some up myself, build is looking really good mate. Car looks great too, hard to go past a gun metal Datsun with aero!!
  18. I have 9.5 + 25 all round on my car rears is easy lip and roll 265 semi's no issues. Fronts I have bashed my guards out a lot, stretched them out as far as I could without heat or really butchering them. I gained probably 50-60mm never checked it with a contour gauge. With 4-4.5 degrees of neg camber they fit and work but without that camber a bit of stretch would be needed to clear properly. Maybe try a 265 35 on the rear and a 245 40 up front. A little bit if stretch will handle ok especially with a little bit of extra sidewall. Stretched 35's is not really a goer. 245 40 is about as small as I'd go on a 10. If you run anymore than 5 degrees castor you'll struggle even more. I run about 15mm spacers under my front guards at the front pushing the bar out too to gain just a bit more clearance for 6 odd degrees of castor.
  19. Okay, I only going off what Jamie lonergan told me, said they were not much good for circuit work but he rated them as a hillclimb tyre. I sold mine to mark Rodgers as they had/were gonna be sitting way too long. There was some snoozer selling hankook's fairly cheaply but can't find him now. Might have to rouse up brad 'stig' sheriff and see if he still has a few hundred sets spare lol
  20. Got the catch can in question welded up thisarvo, been a interesting arvo, had to work thismorning til lunch time, was speddy about getting away and heading for home to get started, got about 5 kays from home, snow was belting down over grass tree hill (one of our famous targa stages) and then a massive arse tree across the road, MEH, 25 kays back around to get home another wa y, got set up, got stuck in was pretty happy well as happy as i could be welding ally, got to the fianl two welds, out of gas. Fuuuuu..... belted over to the weld shop and got there with 5 mins to spare til he closed, back home, DONE. cleaned it up quickly with a wire brush, i think it will be getting painted anyway but looks pretty good. ended up putting a plate behind the inlets to force the gasses/oil down and its 3/4 full of stainless scourers, and pipes that go all the way to the back of the can to the breather so should work pretty well. it held 3.75 litres of water. so thats the last piece of the puzzle for now, next stop - tuning! must have earnt myself a coldie i reckon
  21. Trailers, mmm I think we will build one, see exact costing and go from there. I only want a very very basic one. No tyre rack etc. Will be around end of the year I reckon before we look at building one.
  22. 40 tonne would be closer. Had about 1mm of travel. Outrageously shithouse they were. They were 14-12kg I think. Rocking 8-5kg ATM on bilsteins yet to test them
  23. A few of the local lads here with quick cars who can steer told me the R888's are a brilliant hill climb tyre as they worked from cold. That's on a 400 plus KW 32gtr so not overly light either. I ran them for a day or two on my gtst they seemed okay but car was heavy, and shockingly setup so it's not a decent test.
  24. Fairly minor, but got my brakes bled last night.. 4th attempt. They kept going to the floor on the first pump. Brodie tried once, same deal. Brodie then worked out the calipers must have a nipple on each side, which I had totally overlooked. Now I have a nice firm pedal. I won't set fire to it after all. Fitted my lexan rear screen a week or so back. Fitted up some rear camber arms. Brodie has sussed out costs and thinks we can build a trailer for roughly 2.5k, hopefully that works out. Another 4k or so should see the car trackable so aiming for end of the year to have everything sorted.
  25. the BC's will be a massive improvment over the cusco's. ages ago i had tein Hr's in my car about 400 kg srpings no damper adj etc just like yours, fitted BC's to my girl friends at the time skyline, really nice. not too harsh, and just felt better in every way. fitted aus del Tein SS's and they didnt feel as good as the BC's which burnt any faith i had in tein. maybe the high end stuff that is rebuilt by racepace is good, but anything less than their top shelf is not much chop. BC's are really good for the money, and after a lot of kays still going as good as the day they came out of the box.
