in case your wondering, the fan does speed up when the coupler engages, it locks the blades to the engine speed, when it unlocks it nearly free spins to save you power, fuel and keep the engine at the optimum temp. upon start engine cold they tend to blow hard and loud then taper off to free spin nearly in about 30-45 seconds. you can't check with the engine running without timing light to stop the action in motion, but engine off you can see the failure of the coupler. as I described above

Do you actually have a boost gauge to see if the boost is coming up? or just feels like no boost? could be a vacuum leak in a rubber hose? or intake? or actuator stuffed? if the boost is just flowing out you wont get any power ? or maybe a internally collapsed muffler if its on the car still? the fan is a common problem with RB engines 3rd time on my RB30 in 485,000k, the fan clutch fails (wont lock up to cool car overheats at idle) or freezes taking all the power , my RB30 fan clutch just failed again last week, same symptoms. the squeak comes from the coupler locking up from rust etc. , replace the silver finned bit held on by the 10mm bolts in the middle of the fan, I should have taken photos of it , but the bin man just came this morning. damn. the feeling of the fan failure is a huge loss of power(cause its trying to blow hard which draws the power way down) pretty sure yours is stuffed does the fan free spin WITH THE ENGINE OFF ? it should be smooth but kinda sticky if you try to spin it. if it wont spin at all or has a squeak or grind its positive a fan clutch failure? if it spins free without sticky its stuffed, it should stop spinning in about half to 1 turn if hot ? also try to rock the fan hub from the fan base(engine off of course and not too hard if you do it from the blades they break easy in old age) does it feel a tiny bit loose ? if so the waterpump bearings are starting to go south? you might also see or smell coolant drips out of the little hole below the pump shaft or bearings? if it rocks a lot expect a waterpump to fail extremely soon and could be fatal to the engine if your driving, when they fail it tend to drop the fan sideways into the radiator and guts it like a chicken ,dumping coolant out of the gashed fins after watching your video, three main things come to mind tha make that noise . fan clutch- pretty sure yours is stuffed ?sounds exactly like my RB30 when it died and fits your symtoms to a tee water pump - might be on its way out, check it for loosenes? idler pulley - cant check without a lot of removing stuff? and when they go the bolt breaks off or the belt starts to sing loud with rubber burning smells a few other items make noises like that alternator , A/C and pulleys with bearings but doubt any of those brakes, do the brake feel firm when parked ? engine on and off ? hold them down do they sink to the floor with engine on? vaccum ,water, air in lines, bad fluid? engine off ? possible leaks ? you might have a vacuum problem, which would explain boost issues too? check the vacuum hose from brake master cylinder to manifold ? or throttle body hoses ? if the brake sink with the engne on and fluid full... one suss is the vacuum booster behind the master cylinder? or water, air in the lines, but most of the time you would notice that before not just all of the sudden? boosters just fail without warning most of the time ? might be a slow feel or a sudden complete loss of real brake pressure ? did you mix the brake fluids with other brands or types? or old fluid sitting in the shed for a while(water in fluids ) no visiable leaks in the wheel areas on rims or the back of calipers ? no broken off or loose air bleeds on the brake calipers ? if your not sure about brakes dont stuff with them, it could cost you a life ? ask a pro ?

see all this talk of washing cars caused it to rain,,,, and Abe your car will be mud now !!! but the rain is good..lol still not sure why I havent passed you yet.... down here is the deep deep south..lol the land of two roads..lol Yeah I would put on HP but its only a short term rental , just sold my other house in Aldinga Beach a few months ago after splitting up with EX so until I find a new place to buy this will have to do. at least I'm 4 houses from the beach now... Highly recommended- except the sea spray part

Damo ,I agree... but my rainwater tank has a hose on it with enough pump pressure... not a bucket rinse method and the car is on the lawn when I do wash it with water. sometimes I use waterless cleaners? water savings with bucket rinse? , I dont think so !!, I tested it before the law and by checking the water meter before and after, using buckets VS the hose buckets failed, takes a lot more water to rinse with buckets. and if done on the lawn it saves me from watering for a while.
-
I'd go wash my car anytime, if I could take the UPS delivery chick from the stalking white Van thread ,the one with painted on shorts yum!!!. ...thanks for that Chad I'm still laughing/drooling..lol I wash at home most of the time off the rain water tank..... less waterspots . car wash is ok for a quickie wash,to rid the main dirt or view the chicks in the wash getting foamy...lol buffer work is best left to a house or normal power point and not rushed like a busy car wash ? in the shade ?

Is this the one ? or maybe this one ? if not can you pick it out of a line up ?

Hide in the bushes with a trench coat on, nothing else. when he drives by jump out!!! flashing him with a sock puppet that looks like a dog on your johnson? and bark like a dog !!!!that would scare away anyone..lol scared me just writing it..lol I feel for you, I scared away someone? over the razor sharp steel fence a week ago (for the second time now) lurking in the darkness after they woke up the flock of birds nesting in the tree near my window, Galah's !!!, best watch dogs on the planet to bad they don't chase them down and chew out there eyes . and if its someone reading this forum your in for serious public stoning by the SAU crew next time...lol

Here is some dribble for ya. RALPH magazine page 57 of the Jan 09 issue in the Need for Speed ad, current one with corby on it, who cleans up good after 3 kids by the way..lol notice the car photos, the R35 Skyline caption is actually one for the Porsche GT2 and the Skyline GTR is marked the same way wrong caption on the wrong picture. plus they call it a 370Z not GTR ? even in USA where the game is made its still called a GTR ? sorry about the photo, phones dont take good photos of magazines..lol but you get the idea.?

this may be a stupid question but isn't it illegal to run "imported tires on your car " I thought I read somewhere you have to have the Australian compliance tires upon importing the car from japan, I was told this as well when I got my ride ? I looked at mine close and being from the states they look the same, including the normal markings but I think there is a stamp code for the country of purchase and date embossed on them? if you get pulled into regency I bet they would pick up on it? been told my supra spare will need to be replaced for this reason it still has the jap markings on it l to get rego'd here from QLD since the car was imported before new rules it still had the old spare from japan ? does anyone know if thats true or not ? ps. Tirerack is nowhere near the cheapest place in the states for tires, the problem is finding one of the others who ship to OZ from the WEST COAST of USA, and check the shipping times some could take a REALLY LONG TIME to come over. months????? if they come on a ship expect months. prob a better bet to get tires from interstate over ?

Not sure if anyone saw this posted on SAPOL's web site ? Operation ‘Positive P’s’ Holden Hill Local Service Area is launching a traffic initiative commencing Monday 15 December 2008. Operation ‘Positive P’s’ is directed at ‘P’ plate drivers who display good driving behaviour and operates until the end of March 2009. Reducing fatalities and serious injuries on our roads is a priority for police. In supporting the philosophy that road safety is everyone’s responsibility, Holden Hill Police will be watching our probationary drivers looking for good driving behaviour which: · displays positive and courteous driving · obeys road laws Holden Hill Police will be taking note of good driving displayed by ‘P’ plate drivers throughout the duration of the operation. The driver will not be spoken to at the time, but will be contacted at a later date by way of a letter acknowledging their exemplary driving and nominating them for one of a number of rewards which have been generously donated by local businesses. (Big Brother is watching you? so dont shit yourself if you get a letter from SAPOL for Chrissy.. lol) Acting Officer in Charge of Holden Hill Local Service Area, Detective Chief Inspector Craig Patterson is encouraging ‘P’ plate drivers to be aware of their driving responsibilities and that developing good driving behaviour is a skill for life which may save your life and the lives of other road users. 95 people have lost their lives on South Australian roads to date this year, with 11 being ‘P’ plate drivers. 2 of those ‘P’ plate drivers lived in the Holden Hill Local Service Area. This compares with 7 ‘P’ plate drivers losing their lives in 2007 and 4 in 2006. The Christmas holiday season is a high risk period for fatal and serious injury crashes. This particular operation concentrates on recognising and rewarding good driving by our probationary drivers with a view of making our roads safer.

so thats why ,lol must be a lot of FLUX behind them to need so many bolts..lol GTR's must have twice as many bolts then..lol
-
Id keep my window tint.... but keep your car..lol still love the R34 looks over the R35 ,but could use the drivetrain from one..lol Chef , your car would look much hotter with tint, ironic since tint keeps you cooler..lol still a very nice car..

after reading the list of cars coming , I think we have the "White" cars covered..lol but more is better when it comes to Skylines vs. Commowhore and ferds
-
Ok this is for the R34 coupe owners, has anyone pulled off the steel panels behind the rear seat passengers side panels ? the grey one with all the bolts holding it on ? both sides have the same panels but cant understand why they need so many bolt unless something important is behind there? and I dont feel like removing all of them to find out if I dont have too ? I'm installing Dynomat sound deadener in my car is the reason ? thanks in advance , just to many bolts to remove if its not worth it ?lol

Its under new ownership now the old owners were very shonky at reynella and I havent taken my skyline there just my other car and was treated good and cheap tires after calling everyone in the south end of town they ended up cheapest for that car ? (there a franchise so each one has diff owners,? ) but it would be good to find a place for tires cheap with good service, mine will need some in a few months, My farking bridgestones wont last past 20k on fairly normal driving at the rate its going? oh and its well worth putting nitrogen in the tires, I did on my other skyline and the tires are still good after a zillion miles on it.. only a R31 with slighty larger tires on it but unreal how much better the tires last with it ? too late to bother on my R34.. never seemed to remember to stop in to do it..lol for the record I wont leave my car with anyone!!!! even If I sorta trust them, always stay in view of my car is a good motto ? last time I strayed out of sight from it the clutch came back in a softer spot like they used if for a clutch slipping burn out around the block, and the time before that the side of it got hit and they denied it. its not a tire shop, but a import shop in town, (no names but its a big one) if it wasn't under warranty it would never see a shop except for tires/wheel alignment ever again. DONT TRUST ANYBODY !!! its just to tempting for them and after working in places like that I could tell you horror stories ..lol
-
Hey Martin, Ive got Bridgestones in the same size you want on my car, dont buy those mate !!..lol they wear out to fast and after they get a bit worn they get slick as hell, plus cost to much to start with and make a ton of noise on the road. and no I dont do burn outs with mine they cost to much to fry them for stupid shit..lol I'm not buy Bridgestones again thats for sure.!! Pirelli or goodyear, BFG or michilen , yokohama either they wear to fast , grip is good but to pricey city discount in reynella on junk food corner is a lot cheaper then the city store for some silly reason?and haggling saved a lot of money on my other cars tires ? new owner is a lot better now prob get Federals next time or one of the made in china brands, the big names dont last any longer most of the time anyway and Federal uses the same molds/compounds as the big companies
-
Yeah won't buy another GM car...lol I bought the Vette off dads friend for dirt cheap,, now its worth a mint..lol 550 HP 5.7 liter chevy with lots of mods it virtually fell apart on its own..fiberglass shit box my Excel ? was actually a sorta crazy front wheel drive car-flared fenders and all 79 Ford Fiesta with formula ford engine about 150hp maybe ? and I looped it late one night on a freeway onramp at about 80mph , it was dry until about mid way thru the corner and then the sprinklers were soaking the road.. lucky I kept it on the pavement and not thru the trees, and yes I was cornering hard, full koni setup lowered and huge tires on it. but my stupid driving could have be fatal on public roads, In my youth I did lots of stupid things in cars , so I do understand the P plate position. doesnt take a lot of power to crash a car, my brother did it with the engine off...? long funny story..lol but with so many more people on roads these days and public perception along with bad reporting on the TV , papers, etc. they only think its P platers crashing . when its just a lot of shit heads old and young, male and female with no idea about driving a car or respect for other people and property ? people have lost the plot when it comes to reality, if the news reports it it must be true? on top of all the usa crime shows they get brain washed into stereo typing people? it used to be a part of growing up to do stupid shit in a car now its frowned upon and for a good reason, lots of people die from it. lots of innocent people too. after moving here from USA it shocked me to see how many people crash into trees here? and the stobie poles that cut cars in half dont help either ? for the size of the population I'd say the road toll is high but havent looked at the stupid lopsided stats just the black makers on all the roads near me ? and friends who all know people who died on roads here ? teach people how to drive better ? its really that simple .............not taking away a car that has a somewhat controlled slide and putting them into a front wheel drive that looses its in a big way when it slides catching people out? no HP = taking chances on shooting gaps and loosing and crashing due to that fact? to much HP= slides into poles, etc either one can still exceed the speed limit ? so it doesnt make a difference. Oh well I feel for the P platers but I dont know if bitching about it is going to stop the laws from being passed, I'd say they already have made up there minds on it here ? I guess being a old fart isnt so bad..lol ' PS we managed to "Hoon" anything/everything with wheels when I was younger so I'm sure its still holds true today, you dont need power to Hoon it just speeds up the process a lot more lol
-
Add me to the list of tentatives, still a few weeks to get sent it. and then I can get off my dead ass to do some work on my car over the holidays...lol be cool to get some sweet photos again !!! and see if we can get a massive Skyline turnout..lol
-
checked the oil again , all good, and not a drop of anything under the car sure beats my old Oil leaking bitch of a VT commy, surprised green peace didnt defect that car for the oil spillages ......lol tail pipe is still shiny stainless steel no oil burning marks on it no power steering oil, A/C compressor oil or clutch, brake fluids either, it is distinct smell of gear oil you can't forget that lovely smell..lol and it doesnt smell burning , just faint fresh smell , and no its not on my floor mats either..lol actually the car underside is spotless still, I power washed it to see if the oil was under it a few months ago. never got to the A/C filter today tomorrows project ..today went down hill with the EX wiff driving me insane. .lol I guess one option is to extend the vent line to another location away from the cowl vents by the wipers HMMMM ....be the passengers shitting themself...lol had one tonight beg to get out...lol guess thats what she gets for being drunk and bouncing around so much with the stiff suspension and a few roundabouts..lol, she hates the car !!!! oh well next time she can walk her drunk ass home from the pub then..lol no patience for drunks being a bitch to me in the front seat, when I'm 100% sober..lol Merry Christmas and dont let the door hit you in the ass when get out..lol sorry for venting..lol and yes she drives my R31 normally
-
Yeah Jack ,Im surprised I havent passed ya yet..lol should catch up sometime ? and no I still haven't finished my car ..lol over the holidays hopefully Spotted a Black R32 GTR ? on south road near Irish pub just after sunset, saw it at the last second so didnt get a wave off
-
off topic but added to the jocularity in USA they have drive thru ATM's with braille buttons ? hello !!! blind drivers ??????lol
-
this is so funny ... to hear the different sides of the argument.... sorry about the book in advance..lol but in reality , cars don't kill people, its people who kill people !!!! with the lack of judgment and respect behind the wheel of a couple of tonnes of cruise missile with wheels. doesnt matter if its a 100 kw or 1000kw they both kill you dead if you don't respect them ? I think we need a required skid pad test in the car you intend to drive on the roads, and defensive driving for at least a day session. for everyone not just P platers. just abolish the p plates and put in on the license like the USA does. its pointless to display P plates except it creates a stereotype for bad driving, which not all P platers do drive bad, just flags them when you see one drive like crap. just as many others drive like crap besides P platers ? not tooting my own horn here but , I have lots of driving experience in road race cars and ice filled roads in USA with LOTS of traffic (pushing 30years driving now and no tickets or accidents at all )and it amazes me how bad some people drive here, tailgating is rampant, speeding, weaving lanes, driving too slow, turns without signals, driving into lanes on the tele ? and lots more. along with really bad roads doesnt help. for my day job I was invited for Murcotts driving school at AIR for two days, the others(40 of them) who grew up here in OZ cleaned up the cones and imaginary people..... not one passed on mutiple trys at 20k,40k,60k and 80k, god forbid I'm on the roads with these people. not bragging but I didnt hit anything and even destroyed my new camrys brakes doing hispeed evasion of cones with antilock on...lol lots of fun thrashing a work car to bad it was front wheel peel..lol and overheated the rotors on it..lol speaking of anti lock , how many people even know how to drive a car with antilock , not many ? or how to slide a car on wet roads without plowing into poles ? hydroplaning happens in this town on oily roads with a tiny bit of water its like ice ? I know a lot of P platers who drive like crap and they went thru the log book method.. its a joke I'd say. learn the car and expect everyone to drive like shit. its the way you need to think if you dont want to crash in town. and drifting in the hills is stupid, I drive up there sometimes and your roads dont have room for driving fast with trees that dont break if you hit them ? save the 2fast 2furious driving for the track or playstation. and dont hoon with 5 mates in your car with booze, drugs or testoterone flowing. its a mix for a death toll. of you , your mates and the innocent family of 4 you killed by being stupid ? do you want to go through life knowing you killed mates or a family just to play in the hills ? not me !!! but due to a lot of idiots.... the land of high powered cars for P platers is doomed, the trust factor with the goverment and public is broken. and dont flame me for saying this, but I notice a lot of kids(not all) get these high powered cars from mom and dads money, so why would they respect the car if it crashes they buy a new one for you, but if you earn the car by hard work, you tend not to destroy it and by working your not out driving like a idiot all night long?. all comes back to respecting the car and other people ? times change, too bad the goverment doesnt see the real picture and teach people how to really drive in panic situations(ie. real life every day !!!)not strip there pride and joy away from them ? I know if I was 18 again I'd want a jap racer too..lol oh yeah I did have one...lol and a 72 corvette too..lol I feel your pain !!!
-
you can find splitfires at Sinergy, ask rocco for mates rates from troy with the white R34 I think I paid around 460 or so for mine ? heaps cheaper then others and in stock..lol dont really feel that much extra power except on the top end ....my one of coil packs was stuffed at 47,000k , lots smoother idle now. not misfiring anymore.
-
yeah tried that, took it all apart nothing ripped and the seal wasnt torn on the gearbox top ? clean to he point of surface rust on the bolt heads, not a drop of oil at all. thanks for the input, any other ideas? forgot the R34 has a filter on the A/C might pull it out tomorrow for a peek at it ? prob disgusting original filth from osaka japan ? and a part nobody stocks..lol
