i want the compression to be above 8-1 with the rb25 head i know spool do a 9-1 piston for the rb30det but they are away for another few weeks so cant contact them

Hey guys i know this has probably been asked before but couldnt really find anything i am building a rb25/30 and am currently looking at a set of forgies to suit a rb30et with an advertised compression ratio of 8.5-1 when used with single cam head. will this bring my compression down to about 8.2-1 with the rb25det head? here is some specs on the pistons Piston Type Forged Ring Set Part # C1686 Compression Height 32mm/1.261in Sizes Available: STD, 050, 1.00 Piston Crown Capacity 4.5cc Ring 1 Ring 2 Ring 3 Dish Type Steel Nitrided Barrel plain Reverse torsional taper face scraper Duraflex 3 piece oil ring Bowl Depth 0mm/in Width 1.5mm/0.059in 1.5mm/0.059in 2.8mm/0..11in Compression Ratio 8.5 Depth 3.4mm/0.133in 3.8mm/0.149in 3.9mm/0.153in Piston Mass 322 grams (0.50) Pin Mass 84 grams Pin Diameter 21mm/0.827in Pin Locking Device Spiral Lock Clearance 0.12mm/.005in Skirt Coated No

Converting Gtr Box To Rwd
rb20bmw replied to rb20bmw's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
skillset required? hahah good one mate. i am a qualified fitter and turner and built a few cars now... the point of asking for links is so i can find out what parts i may need beside the gtr box. i Havent bought a box and wont till i find out if it will be cost effective to purchase one over a 25 box. -
i know it can be done but does anyone have any links or tips on doing it? it is going into a bmw with a built rb20 in it. i cant justify the 1500 for a 25 box when i can get a gtr box for 600 and modify it myself. any help appreciated

well the engine is going in for a bottom end rebuild. the sump holds around 10 litres as its custom to suit the conversion and with 3 litres in the sump the pickup is still under the oil. goona make a new custom pickup using speed flow fittings so there is no chance of a leak from it anymore. i think the pick up is what caused it in hte first place

anyone got an ideas i dont wanna pull the motor out just yet
-
its a z30 filter. there is oil flow through the cooler cause i can feel it getting warm. the lines enter the cooler from the bottom is that a problem?
-
no there is no thermostat on the relocation kit. i'm pretty sure the lines are correct. is the centre line from the plate on the block the pressure line? asin the one that would normally flow into the centre of the filter
-
as in on the plate that replaces the filter for the relocation kit?

hey guys i have an rb20det in a bmw. the problem i'm having is that i have a lowish oil pressure. I am running a remote oil cooler and filter. has anyone had experience with this dropping oil presure? at idle its sits at around 10psi mesured from the remote filter and on revs it reachs 20 psi. any help appreciated

ok kool does anyoen know of any good sites besides this one to tray and find a second hand hi flow
-
the other question is do most low mounts keep the turbo in the exact same position as a standard manifold so i wont have to redo the exhaust and dump pipe and intake?
-
the car wont be doing track work as yet i gotta get a new rear end strengthened and suspension fine tuned before i waste my time at a track this turbo will only be on till around december/january if all goes to plan with a aftermarket ecu. who can recommend a good aftermarket exhaust manifold and is top or low mount a better option?
-
as has been stated runnign more boost through the rb25 turbo is fine because its not working as hard on the rb20. the clutch is an exedy heavy duty. also does anyone actually have facts or proof of 15psi beign a problem? the only proof i have so far is that my mates has been runnign 15psi all day everyday for the last 60,000km putting out 180kw at the rears with less mods. No noises coming from the turbo at all and it was checked for play a month or so ago when the engine bay was stripped and wire tucked. on another note whats a good size/ brand of injectors?
-
kool thanks guys might run 14 to start with till i get my hands on a second hand hiflow. any tips on where to find one/suppliers? the reason i was thining around that psi is mainly because my mate has been running 15psi for 18 months racing/ draging the car and has not had the turbo fail and it is only a standard rb20 one
-
the rb25 turbo isnt ball bearing is it? what other turbo's of standard cars will fit and be adequate? dont want to pour thousands into the turbo setup
-
the reason for rb20 is for one cost to start with and if/when this motor fails it will be getting a fully forged rb30det(rb25 head). and for now the 2 litre keeps my insurance down as i'm already payng heaps for a euro car. As for the turbo i will post pics of my mates bmw with an rb20 which is running the standard rb20 turbo and has been running 15psi for the last 18-19 months with no problems/smoke. The turbo willbe staying as is for a month or 2 till i can upgrade but my exhaust will be very custom so i'm chasing a turbo that will fit both my t3 flange manifold and the dump pipe

Hey guys i know its probably been asked before but i cant find anything specific in the search. i'm currently putting a rb20 into my 92 bmw. so far the mods for the motor are r33 turbo, custom intake plenum, front mount short plumbing, 255lph fuel pump, remap chip for the ecu. what i'm aiming for is about 300horsepower at the wheels. What other mods am i gonna need to get close or over my power aim, like bigger injectors or after market exhaust manifold, cams etc. i'm gonna run about 15-16 psi everyday and eventually forge the motor. any help appreciated cheers
