11th to 13th of January... same place as always. http://www.e-autosalon.net/tokyo/topics.html

As good as the next GT-R will be, it's a very different car now compared to the 34,33,32... you can say the same about the BNR32 being a very different car from it's father the KPGC110. But they all had that uniqueness and iconic status you're talking about at the time they were around. So what if a whole generation of pimple faced kids now lust after the GT-R yet don't know what it is. If anything that'll encourage Nissan not to drop the model in the future as these kids grow up and start earning money. You are speculating here though GTS4WD, just wait till next year when the thing actually goes on sale.

I still want to see these Pakistani GT-Rs Spunky Munkey was telling us about...

Whats not many Skylines in America got to do with their claim of 'most extesively modified GT-R in the world'? Even an internet savvy 12 year old would know that was false. I've since checked other stuff on that website and the writer is from the Philipines... I take back what I said about Americans. But anyway... show us some of these Pakistani GT-Rs
-
Oh I just love it how Americans throw that phrase around like it's part and parcel with being in the USA. While it's definately an awesome 34GT-R, they obviously don't know about the Amuse Carbon R, Autech Tsukada R32 GT-R, M's Factory Authorised RII...

The V36 sedan is out already... the Coupe is due in August.

Me patriotic? I'm just stating it the way I see it. I'm not quite sure what you mean with all that about being nationalistic, but it's an uphill battle trying to promote an obviously Japanese originated motorsport in Australia with the 'power base' rooted firmly in V8 Touring car racing. This fact alone will keep Drift at the current level unless the 'power base' becomes interesed... they won't have any interest if there isn't a viable business case put before them... in order to do that you'd have to sell out to the V8 crowd. Like I said, that would amount to suicide for drift purists. Holden v Ford drift... sounds awesome. With the 'arrogance taking over'... I don't think people like seeing that permiate in as much as they like talking shit on the culprits ie "See that wanker when he did his post-race interview? rah rah rah..." they like talking shit, but need some arrogant tool to instigate it. Controversy..... You're right, that'd never happen here (Japan) but then again, Japanese are cultrually more respectful of each other at face value. In Australia there isn't that rigid social expectation to 'be a certain way'. You're going to get people jokingly (or seriously) slagging off others in Australia... thats part of the culture. This isn't confined to motorsports, you get it everywhere. Anyway, I hope some breakthrough does happen and drift gets the respect and support it needs to grow.
-
When I see drift in Australia, I think that there's too many people thinking "this is the next big thing", but totally ignore the fact that good 'ol V8 loving Australia is outside waiting to get their racing track back after the event and into peoples hands who 'know what they're doing'. It's hard to explain the mentality of the average Aussie when it comes to an Asian derived activity. They might think it's exciting and great to watch, but then the next thing that comes out of their mouth is "Skaifey could do better in a V8 Supercar though".... In order to get any bigger in Australia IMO you've got to appeal to the V8 brigade more... ALOT more. That will probably be suicide for the drift purists, but you're in Australia right? Thats the way it is... When I see drift in Japan, I see a cultrually respectful group of people using their own countries cars and know-how with full support from big multinational corporations and car companies in an economic environment that was *built on the car*. Car companies in Japan virtually lifted it out of economic doom after WW2, and anything connected with selling more cars or adding to brand mystique or whatever is looked upon favourably. Although with the emphasis now on eco-friendly designs and conservation, I don't know how much longer things like drift and motorsports in general will be tolerated at a local level in Japan... it won't last forever thats for sure.

You sure that isn't a leftover sign from Infiniti's failed attempt in AU back in 1990? If it's a brand new decently large sign thats recently been erected on the streetside then maybe they've got something brewing...
-
How can they sell the GT-R as an Infiniti without a proper established sales channel? Well lets assume Infinitis will be sold off the regular Nissan dealership, where is the preparation for that? If it were a possibility, you'd definately see some kind of arragements being made right now to sell the Infiniti models already available, let alone a car that isn't released yet. Unless of course the GT-R will be the debut model for Infiniti... but somehow I can't imagine the incredibly limp-wristed Nissan AU doing such a thing. Maybe when the 2012 GT-R comes out, they can consider selling the 2008 one because they're so backwards thinking...

We created a section especially for this type of thing. Moved. Nice pics btw, very random selection. I was expecting that passed out drunk dude to be a homeless guy... but a foreigner? LOL.

Lol I was just looking at that very page last night, but thought it was an info photo blog thing so didn't bother to scroll down! Hmmm, even though its within shaken I still think 280,000 yen is expensive I was expecting 100,000 yen or there abouts. Floor mats look good though!

I can't find one at all... there literally nothing out there right now. Besides, owning something as old as an N13 in Japan would be a rolling liability, as the monthly parking fee/regitration/insurance cost would be worth more than the car...
-
Try some of the traders like Slidewise etc... they've usually got something coming in monthly? Where are you?

No you read me wrong I meant that the 2DIN setups are 'usually' installed at factory (hence it'd be easier to install 2DIN navi screen in one of those obviously), so the cheapest/easiest way would be to start off with a car with one of those. The factory navi from Nissan on the other hand is very good as is, and I've never seen anyone ditch the retractable screen and navi system for a 2DIN setup... I'm not saying it can't (or hasn't) been done! Also it's a lot of mucking around, was not sure whether you were going to do it yourself... IMO better to pay someone. Cheers. -
They way I see it, either they do get sold in Australia new from dealers and hardly anyone buy them because they're horribly overpriced by Nissan AU, or you wait 3 years for old Japanese ones to get imported through RAWS or whatever... and maybe a few more (than what wouldve been sold through Nissan dealers) end up on the road. Like Booth says, Nissan AU are going to have to be careful with the price... and guess what? Thats the very thing which will stop it from getting sold in AU. The fact that he even mentioned "$200,000-plus" (I mean wtf? Nice way overpriced figure there matey) means the thing will be well over $150K... despite reports of the base model GT-R coming in at sub 8,000,000 yen (under $80K) and the V-Spec or whatever it'll be called coming in at 9,000,000yen ($90K) in Japan. I know they don't know what the spec level will be etc, but if they don't get the base model in they'll be shooting themselves in the foot for sure. It seems like the typical "we'll tell them how much it is worth because the average punter doesn't know any better" arrogance which will just hinder sales or prevent the thing from being sold in the first place.

Ok, to answer your question, yes a Skyline is still called 'Skyline' in Japanese vernacular, but obviously they say it a little differently albeit still understandable from a native English speakers point of view. Writing 'Skyline' can be either done using the English alphabet, or using Katakana 'スカイライン'. Actually there are hundreds of English words used in Japanese (besides names of cars etc) and the number is growing all the time.
-
You've got the wrong idea... theres no one symbol for a Skyline. Reason being is that Skyline is an English word. If it were a Japanese name (like Suzuki 'Hayabusa') then there'd be a kanji - a single character or more. The only choice you've got is what dodgybrooks mentioned. The only other shortened form I've ever seen of 'Skyline' in katakana is 'スカ’. But thats not a universal thing... just a term of endearment by some.

Pretty much every car sold in Japan with a 'CD player moulded into the dash' also has a 2DIN panel available to fit aftermarket navi screens (for lower spec models). Trouble is, these are usually fitted at factory, and I've NEVER known anyone to remove the factory Nissan navi screen/audio in favour of a 2DIN set up... this could cost $$$ to get working right. getting the 2DIN panel would be the easy part... -
You're right. There was one R33 Turbo sedan with automatic trans called a 'Type G'. It was sold from January 1995 - December 1995. Yes I'm not disputing that. If you read my post correctly I said "All... were Type Ms EXCEPT the *GTS25t Active LSD* model built from August 1993 - December 1994"... meaning any Active LSD equipped R33 Turbo coupes built during that time weren't Type Ms. But we're splitting hairs. Hands up whos got a Type G auto sedan? Or a coupe GTS25t Active LSD non-Type M? ...anybody? About the only thing this proves is that Nissan went way overboard with the amount of different models available in the '90s.
-
Ok one more time... - All R33 Turbos (Coupe and Sedan) were Type Ms EXCEPT the *GTS25t Active LSD* model from from August 1993 - December 1994... thats it! Every other Turbo had the Type M tag given to it. Other later 'Active LSD' models got the Type M name too... so you might aswell just say that all R33 GTS25t's were Type Ms. - The GTS25t Active LSD was not called 'Type ML'. Lets not start a good old fashioned rumour here shall we?
-
^^^ Why did you quote me? I know about the 400R: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...supercar+thread
-
A bit late... No R34 sedans with RB26 conversions are plentiful. At least 3 available on used car websites every week in Japan, and more elsewhere. But in Australia... could be rare?
-
Is it a turbo? Well then it's a Type M then Only the GTS25t 'Active LSD' (from August 1993 - December 1994) was not called a Type M in the entire R33 turbo line up. All other R33 turbos were were called GTS25t Type Ms. I see you have a Series 2 so it's a Type M.
