Thanks RedLine.. I'm going out now, so I'll get 'em to ya in the morning.

I didn't ask you to read this thread. So your wasting your own time, not me. "GT-R Hype"??? What, you mean as opposed to your "GT-R Hype"??? All your info origionates from where? What, JAPAN? Hey, that just happens to be where I've been living for the last 3 1/2 years! I'm conveying what comes out HERE, in Japan. Not from anywhere else, be it Europe or the US.
-
When is a prototype not a prototype? When it's the very first "buyable" car!!! Stop sweating me Sonic. If you want go and and make another GT-R thread that subtley contradicts everything that I've posted here, then go ahead.
-
Their releasing the final "prototype" at the show, it's not the official launch... as far as I know, they haven't decided that yet. Oh, and I do believe you that the US is the largest market.

Why has there NEVER been a mention of a V8 in a Skyline of any sort, let alone the GT-R, in Japan, in the lead up to this Octobers Tokyo Motor Show, when they'll be releasing the final prototype of the GT-R? Engineering a V6 chassis to accept a V8 solely for a niche sector of a single market? Re-engineering the suspension, body rigidity etc for a heavier V8 aswell as the V6? They'll have to call the V8 another name then, won't they? They'll behave like two different cars... I'm not saying Nissan have never considered a V8 for use in a GT-R, I just know that that theory has been put to rest, and the new GT-R IS a VQ Thirty-Two DETT... based on the JGTC VQ30DETT, that meets Euro 4/5 emmisions laws.
-
OK. It's definately a Skyline. I don't know what a V35 is, here the 2-door Skyline is called the 350GT. And the GT-R is most definately using it's bodyshell (of course). Don't worry, the 4 round tail lights are there! Do you really think after 30-odd years they're just gonna THROW AWAY the 'ol stove tops? The famous Japanese 280ps limit? Well, for quite a few years now, the top-line sportscars from Japan have been sold "claiming to have" 280ps, but in reality, it's well over this (R34 GT-R for example). Remember, it's just an unwritten agreement, and manufacturers aswell as governing bodies etc are more than willing to turn a blind eye to the new GT-R's output, if it means it'll knock the Porsche 911 Turbo off it's pedestal... ...thats my interpretation. But when I asked my friend Kazuya (he works at Honda) about it, he said "Nobody cares about the 280ps"... so it's a gentlemans agreement, if you adhere to it, good on you, old boy. But just watch all the new top-line sports cars from other makers come out with well over 300ps in '04 and '05.

Done. Thanks ... He's not very good is he...

Th whole story behind the Direct Injection is that the VQ32DETT has to meet the Euro4/5 emissions laws in 2005. The absolute tech involved in this engine is unsurpassed by any other. The motors connected to the turbo housings have a valve along side to regulate the exhaust gas coming out of the engine, so that the engine management can spool-up the turbo with only a fraction of the gas-flow that is required with traditional "passive" turbos! So what we have is an "active" turbo! Can you imagine... Nismo bringing out an extra "piggy-back" device to spool-up the turbos at idle? Also, The new Attessa 4WD system has a active diff that regulates the drive to front and rear wheels according to throttle position... ...and an new dry sump thats a virtual copy of the JGTC car...

Steadeeeeeeeeeeeeeey lads! I promise, tomorrow night, I'll have GT-R pics up, and a few more suprise entries...

You haven't heard the V6 yet!!!

Summoner> If you were the head of a large vehicle manufacturer, and you had the final say on what engine configuration should go in your top-of-the-line sports car, which would you pick between a V6 TT or a V8 TT? Bear in mind that the "said" V8 TT and V6 TT had almost exactly the same power output? Still run with the V8 TT? It all boils down to what your perception of a "Sportscar" is. My perception of a Sportscar is: under 1500kgs, 2-door, over 250kw (for upto 1500kgs), 6-speed manual, 50/50 weight distribution and a cool bodyshape. Wow, it looks like I just described an modded RX-7... or the new GT-R. But some people think a ****ing ute is a sportscar... what with the low suspension and the "touring" wings and crap...go figure. But I am NEVER gonna accept that a ute is a sportscar. The same as your never gonna accept that an Exel is a sportscar. So my point is, you shouldn't care so much if some people don't (and won't) respect V8's, even if you do. Thats life dude... now lets talk about the new GT-R some more!!!:D
-
Because, since it's inception, the GT-R has always been a 6 cyl. Besides, 2 more cylinders ain't gonna make a blind bit of difference... in fact, it'll just make the whole shebang heavier. Same reason why you don't see V12's in F1 anymore. I starting to think now that this new VQ32DETT is quite probably going to be the best all-round engine - in a production car - in the world.
-
Greg, how do you do the kg/m - Torque calculation?
-
Summoner> I think he was talking about the V8 in relation to being put in a GT-R as being rediculous... AeroGrace> Yes mate, Attessa is go.
-
The GT-R nameplate is up there with Sumo and Tanuki's balls, as far as sacredness is concerned. If there is a V8 Skyline, it'll be a North American thaaang...
-
Forget 480ps from the factory... Is that Ayu in your avatar???
-
mmm, I think that one will be badged as an Infinity if I'm not mistaken?

Skyline GTS/GTS-T, Sil80 or a silva for a first car?
Rezz replied to a topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Do you have a "Haaaaanda?" (yank voice-over they have on the Honda commercials here...) -
I forget, was there a rumor at one stage that the new GT-R would be a V8? Nissan have got the Porche 911 Turbo in it's sights, and I think the 911 has had it's day...
-
...aaah, I'm only going to say "Horide"... Maybe some of the other Japan residents will know what I'm on about. Why go for a V8 when a V6 is all they'll ever need?
-
Here are the specs! Engine: VQ32DETT V6 Twin-Turbo with DIRECT INJECTION! (in colaboration with Cosworth!!!) Power: 480ps (352kw!) @ 7200rpm Torque: 58kg/m @ 4800rpm (don't know the conversion...) Turbos: No confirmation on the size, although it's probably a couple of T-28 sized units. Get this: They have incorporated a motor-assisted spool-up!!! Yes, no lag here!!! The death of the Supercharger maybe...? Body: Steel moncoque with an Aluminium Spaceframe. Hints of Audi here... Drive: 4WD... not sure of the final desicion on the gearbox though. Here are the Pics... The whole concept of the new GT-R is based on this years JGTC GT-R: Quad-cam V6 Twin-Turbo with the Aluminium spaceframe etc. From what I can gather, they've gone for ultimate weight distribution, with an engine that surpasses the RB26DETT in EVERY way. There are pics flying around on the 'net already wich pretty much look like the finished product, except theyve added a few more vents around the place, in front of the rear wheel arches etc. More details to come... Cosworth have been involved with Nissan engine development since the 80's, they had a hand with the CA18DET-R in the Bluebird SSS-R homologation rally car, and again with the SR20DET in the Pulsar GTi-R. Right now, Cosworth has the VQ32DETT GT-R engine on its testbench. Nissan has sent the parts to Cosworth, and they've assembled it, and are conducting all the initial testing. The mob who I'm getting all this info from, INSIST that the engine is a direct conversion of the current Skyline JGTC engine (which incidently is a VQ30DETT). Add an extra 200cc to it for whatever reason... all this leads to the question: Is the JGTC Skyline running Motor-assisted Turbos? And Direct Injection? Thats one of the major reasons why the VQ32DETT can put out big power, yet being in accordance with the Euro 4/5 emmissions laws. The Bodywork. All the pics so far have indicated a very "subdued" look, without any spoilers and wings and things. Well, as far as I know, it's the actual bodywork itself, coupled with underbody diffusers and the like, that will give the new GT-R excellent down force. Right now, all those pics off the web, and in the magazines are "close" to what the final GT-R will look like, but NOBODY KNOWS FOR SURE. The front and rear end details are still in "Clay Model" stage, and nothing (as far as I know) has been decided on yet. All I know is that, there will be big bonnet vents, diffusers, and underbody aerodynamic aids. The final GT-R pricing is estimated at around 8,000,000yen/car. Thats reasonable, if you take into account the engineering costs of the BNR32 GT-R, which topped out at around 10,500,000yen/car. And we all know Nissan lost alot of money making the R32 GT-R... hopefully they'll break even this time! The R34 GT-R was late to show up, so the Japanese are expecting the same to happen here, and what they say is "early 2005".... shit. That could change though. (edit: Nissan Prez Carlos Ghosn put the new GT-R release date back to 2007 at the earliest... will let you know if this changes) Disclaimer: All I'm reporting is what comes out here in Japan. Until know, I've seen or heard NOTHING about a possible V8 powered GT-R to be sold in the US. THATS NOT TO SAY THAT IT'S NOT TRUE!!! The Japanese won't be getting a V8 model (if there is one) so I guess that translates into bugger-all reporting of it here. /Rezz

Did the numbers come out though? ...aaaah, I knew it wouldn't work...
