<span style='font-size:13pt;line-height:100%'>1987 Nissan Langley 1.6 GT</span> <span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'>The Langley story...</span> <span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'>Do you remember the "Langley"? It's a car that should be called a Pulsar, yet with a Skyline flavor (supposed to be an imitation of the 7th Skyline, the R31) that has been described in catalogues as</span> <span style='font-size:11pt;line-height:100%'>"Skyline's MINI". </span><span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'>If we take away the SUNNY and the PULSAR from the 1986 to 1989 period, none were able to be called "a box office hit" for Nissan at that time though it was a strange state of affairs that there happened to be a whole group of sedans (Sunny, Laurel, Pulsar Langley, Skyline) that were on sale from Nissan in the small/medium size market.</span> <span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'>Nissan was famous in the 1980's for selling cars through multiple sales channels with multiple names for extending their sales system such as the Sunny shop, the Nissan shop, the Bluebird shop, the Prince shops, and the Cherry shops in those days. Afterwards, it was arranged in only two sales channels of 'Red stage/Blue stage', and even these two sales channels have been consolidated only just this year... making just one sales channel. Most people never liked multiple sales channels in the same manufacturer.</span> <span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'>The Langley GT (the model most sought after) came as a sedan and hatchback with Black two-tone color schemes which at the time went against the stark white which was so popular. Back then, I suppose we could say that the Langley was a 'poor mans Skyline'. So if one does come across a Langley GT in the used car lot, would one not think "should I buy a Skyline instead?" This is the feeling amonst even the most serious of Nissan enthusiasts. At that time, there was a low-priced version of the R32 Skyline, a 1.8L sedan which was almost the same price as the Langley GT, so one must also ask, "why would Nissan blur the lines between models in such a way?" It's clear that Nissan were trying to resussitate low sales during the mid to late 80's by offering 'heart beat vehicles'... cars which appeal to the heart, such as low volume Reebok and Nismo models. Still, it was quite usual for a family of 5 to buy the low-spec 1.5L Nissan Pulsar sedan over the Langley GT, so the likelyhood of seeing them on the street nowadays is very low indeed. One might chuckle upon seeing ex-F1 driver Aguri Suzuki posing next to the Langley in Nissans sales brochure, which in my mind was the pinacle of 1980's advertising - to sell to the heart, not the head.</span> <span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'>Name: Nissan Langley 1.6 GT Chassis: E-HN13 Engine: CA16DE Capacity: 1598cc Power: 96kw Torque: 14kg/m Weight: 1090kg Transmission: 5MT/4AT Drive: Front wheels with viscous LSD/Fulltime 4WD Brakes: Ventilated disks Suspension: Front struts with rear parralel link struts</span> <span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'>This isn't a Langley (it's an EXA) but it's the same CA16DE engine.</span> <span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'>I ordered this book from Amazon.co.jp because I'm such an 80's Japanese car freak:</span> http://nigensha.co.jp/webcg/digital-cg/arc.../archive11.html ***Edit: <span style='font-size:11pt;line-height:100%'>WONDER WHY THE LANGLEY WAS DISCONTINUED?</span> <span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'>Heres why: "Tsutomu Miyazaki's car", a Nissan Langley, was used in the rape and murder of young Japanese girls in 1989, and gave rise to the negative views held by the general Japanese population against so called 'OTAKU' or 'geeks'. Read about this monster HERE</span>

It's Gr-ed-dee. Remember this: Theres a correct way to say it, and it would be quite embarrassing if say Tsuchiya were to come to Australia and all these Aussie so-called Japanese car experts start busting out with their own invented pronunciations just because "I can't be farked" or "that sounds stupid..." One more time (:werd: ) with English pronunciation: A'pex = Aye-pecks GReddy = Gr-ed-dee GREX = Gr-ex GRACER = Gr-ay-ser (not: 'G-Racer!!!") Fujitsubo = Foo-jitz-oo-boe (the emphasis is on the 'jitz' part, not: 'Foo-jit-SOO-boe) Watanabe = Wah-tah-nah-beh... simple. (not: "Wah-tah-nayb"!!) Tanabe = Tah-nah-beh... as above 5 Zigen = Five Ziggen ('ig' as in 'bigger') In Japanese: 'Goh Ziggen'. RE Amemiya: Are-Eee Ah-mem-ee-yah Cefiro = Seh-fee-roe Hachi-Roku = Hah-chee Roh-koo (not: Roe-koo... US style ) Bride = Bree-deh (I suppose 'Breed' would sound better in English... don't say 'Br-eye-d'!!! Thats the epitomy of wrong) JUN = Joo-n ('oo' as in 'put') Tommy Kaira = Tommy K-eye-rah (not: 'K-eye-ee-rah') Tomei = Toe-mey (not: TOMMY!) Tsukuba = Tsoo-koo-bah Any more just gimme a yell

I'll give you a call tonight Terry...
-
Btw, sounds like you've got alot to think about before coming here... you seem pretty confused
-
Don't get too worried... they just say that to appease the 'working holiday ethics'. Of course NO ONE moves around in 3 month intervals! It's just saying that *in the spirit* of the working holiday visa, people are 'obligated' to move around Japan and see the country, rather than get all hooked up in one city then start doing illegal stuff ie: working fulltime , having sex , drinking too much , being disorderly ... you get the drift.

Updated my first reply again....

1) It wouldn't hurt to apply for a job before you leave... so why not? 2) Yeah be original... go to Tokyo For every person that says Osaka is better (for whatever reason), there'll be about 3 0r 4 saying that Osaka is crap (even though they've never been/lived there) and Tokyo is the center of the universe. So in a nutshell, you can't really go wrong anywhere... it's what you do for yourself when you're here is what counts. Why not Nagoya? 3) Yeah, hold out for a school that susidises your rent... thats the best situation by far. I mean, thats much better than trying to rent yourself, isn't it? The downside is you have to take what you're given.

Wtf??? Terry???? Geezuz... I can't believe you've showed up here! Mate we HAVE TO get together and have some drinks

Rezz replied to VL-TRBO-RB20's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Actually, the V35 sedan was designed and released before the Fairlady Z (350Z) beack in 2001, but the V35 Coupe (the which people are confusing with the 350Z) was released after the 350Z in 2003. So in actual fact, you *could* say that the V35 Skyline Coupe is copying the 350Z... -
Nice drunken babble there... Aaaaah, me? Theres a nice bloke named 'Gojira', another nice bloke named 'Streeter' (I hear he's a bit of a brawler), another bloke named 'Dreamaaa'... who else? Maybe one or two others just passing through. So where are you staying?
-
^^^ It's 'Vale-side'... or for Aussies: 'Vay-el-soide'
-
... no one knows what undies I'm wearing...
-
Yes, I know, thats why I posted above. I've lived in Japan for 5 years and have met with Japanese sales reps from Trust and A'pex (and others) and heard them introduce themselves using the pronunciation I posted above... that enough? lol
-
You could've googled it... Navara???
-
People... you're all wrong! It's Rezz here, I'll straighten all this shenannigans out! (hehehe ) Ok, Rrrrrready??? (lol) GReddy: pronouced 'Goo-re-dee' or in English 'Gre-dee' from Japanese 'グレッディ' = 'Goo-re-dee' A'pex(i): pronouced 'A-peck-koo-soo' or in English 'Aye-pecks' from Japanese 'アッペクス' = 'Ah-pe-koo-soo' - The 'i' IS NOT pronounced. **Edit: Just because theres a capital 'G' and 'R' in there, doesn't mean anything! This is Japanese limited understanding of the English language remember...

Dime a dozen eh? Depends if you want to teach kids or not.I guess any *normal* human being can only teach English for 5 years max... any longer and you must be some kind of super-genki cyborg teaching masochist or a bloody wierdo So I've done my 5 year stint so teaching is out of the question. Like I said to Gojira yesterday, I'll stay in Japan longer ONLY if I can find a 200,000yen+ paying job that doesn't involve teaching. And because I can speak some Japanese (but definitely not fluent) that leaves me out of just about everything... so it's back to Australia for me.

Don't know about the PS2, but about the cars: it's really dependent on where you are... I mean, the likelyhood of seeing hot cars outside your hotel around lunchtime are going to be pretty slim, but if you go driving through the country (anywhere near a circuit) or drive around the city after 11pm or so, theres always cars out, especially 180SXs, FC RX-7s, Civics, Starlets... the big power GT-Rs and Supras are usually on the highways or at illegal drags... but good luck finding them without local help.

Thank you very much Colin, I might just do that Hey Andrew, whats this about your visa?

@ Predator: Yeah it was sudden, but that was the nature of the situation though, fine one day, crap the next! Just like that Queensland tourism campaign in the 80's yeah? @ Anthony: Will PM you mate with the low down... Troys been busy.
