  1. For those of us who do not know, what is "open deck" or "closed deck"...? Mike PS: anyone actually used a Kakimoto spacer block in Australia?
  2. I would get some custom made using 3" (76.2mm) pipe/tube, best way to go. Then you can get the exhaust place to merge them to what ever diameter and flange type you want to match your existing exhaust (or get them to make the rest of it to the back of the car). And yes, doing it this way you well prevent any flow restrictions associated with a square edged "lip".
  3. My bad, missed that. When you work in front of a computer all day a 5 can turn into a 6 pretty easily! I guess so, but, if you had a built 26, you don't need to worry about that. Keeping stock capacity or inreasing capacity is such a huge topic for debate. Mike
  4. Yeah but what will it take (and cost) to fit it into a 4WD GTR. It is not a bolt in option I would not think. Makes a fully build RB26 capable of doing what it loves to do (rev it's little heart out) sound like a much better option to me. Plus you can maintain some 2.6L patriotism! Mike
  5. I guess whether to rebuilt with a stroker or not is a generally a personal preference in how you want your GTR to deliver its power/torque. It is easy to see why people are looking at RB30 blocks when it comes to a rebuild, results speak for themselves, so does the price of the block. I am not sure about what needs to be done to make it fit into a 4WD GTR (my guess is a lot), but would be a good comparison pricewise. Full RB26 build to handle 10000rpm vs a built RB30. Maybe I have missed the point of the thread? Anyway, I would rebuild my RB26 to handle mad rpm, but, considering the point of this thread I would go the JUN 2771cc to stay true to some sort of Nissan Motorsport heritage (the GT cars in Japan are 2771cc I believe). Mike
  6. Overlay Paul's dynograph in Twoogle too, that would be interesting.
  7. That does look the business ^^^ for interests sake, are they equal length? I am assuming that this equal length stuff is due to frequencies of the exhaust. Frequencies of gases flowing through pipes is based on length (from what I remember from engineering) if you have two different lengths with the ends of the pipes next to eachother you might have interference between the two outlets, maybe, which could be bad because... I am not sure... Besides the weight and space issues (which can be overcome) I think a full twin 2.5"-3" would be fantastic in terms of performance... and sound. Definately something I am interested in and will consider when upgrading my turbos. Mike
  8. Pics, yes please. Mike PS: what Jap brand exactly?
  9. Trust/Greddy have a Power Evolution II exhaust which is 94mm so close enough to 4". I am pretty sure Twoogle had one (ask Paul). I have one on my R33 GTR. Comes with a cat replacement pipe, check with Croydan Racing Dev. that is where I got mine from, they were clearance stock. Mike
  10. That is a pretty good gain. What size exhaust did you use previously and what size did you go to on the twin system? Mike
  11. Hey mate, How did you end up with the exhaust? Proper twin systems do not seem very popular at all it seems a bit strange. You would think that twin 2.5" or twin 3" would flow better than a single 3.5" due to the pipes not merging. Mike
  12. I had the same problem with high idle, about 1100rpm. I thought it was normal until I looked on the inside of the bonnet one day and I think it said idle should be 950rpm or there abouts. I got my Vipec V88 installed and my tuner spent a lot of time getting the idle right (as his dyno was getting fixed he had about 3-4 days to do it). Now is sits on about 700rpm and seriously it sounds sweet and never skips a beat. High idle was with the standard computer by the way. Mike
  13. I too just looking at the design of the split dumps and the turbo housings Garrett turbos have questioned their performance (or mystical improvement in performance). As someone mentioned before when you are on the throttle the wastegate is closed, it may be possible that changing fast between gears (or maybe flatshifting) that the wastegate gases may interfere with the exhaust flow. But I have not seen anything set in concrete other than peoples opinions that there is an improvement be it in improving turbo spool or overall power. Another thing I noticed is that the face of the housing does not seal with the face of the split dumps. Below is a link to a thread from gtr.co.uk: http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum/102718-garrett-...st-housing.html I have looked at pictures of the housings for T517Z's, GT2860's and ARMS 7660 and the above link shows the rear end of a HKS 2530. On all of them bar the HKS 2530 the rear end does not have a flanged face that seals with the split dump. So to me it seems as if this is another reason not to bother with split dumps, if it is not sealed you are going to get interference which is what everyone is concerned about, it seems. I don't know, I would love for split dumps to make a difference but it does not seem to make a lot of sense to me. Sorry if I am off topic. But, what do other people think? Mike
  14. New harmonic balancer, perhaps a Ross if you don't want to go all out on an ATI? Probably not essential but at least you mind will be more at ease when you hit 8000rpm.
  15. Ankle re-con, quitting smoking, training and working... plus working on your GTR. You are a machine! Good luck man. Removing the air con too, let us know how you go with that. Mike
  16. At the end of the day you should select a tuner who has greatest experience in the ECU you would like. Or, if you know someone that you want to tune your car, he will make a recommendation in what he feels he can tune correctly (if he is honest). Whether is uses MAP sensors of AFMs is does not matter at all, if the tune is right there is no noticable difference when you are driving. PFC is a great ECU especially for a street car does exactly what you need but personally there are other ECUs that can do things better. For example, I chose a Vipec V88 one of the reasons being it has knock control which I think is essential (my opinion). Read every post but do not take any of it as gospel, people have opnions (sometimes very strong ones) and that over shadows a lot of truths and factual information. Do your research by talking to different tuners and make a decision based on what you want out of an aftermarket ECU and weighing up the pro's and con's of each. Good luck, Mike
  17. I will have to agree here too. If you got the pennies go the V88 and hook into the factory knock sensors.
  18. I am pretty sure they are Australian engineering and designed. So, who gives a toss where they are made. Holdens are "Aussie made" and most of the small car range is made overseas. Anyway, great ECU!!!
  19. Before I get grilled by Jap bike riders, what I mean is that more attention is paid to import car drivers than import bike riders! Probably because we are easier to catch. Sorry for the generalisation in previous post (I love Jap bikes).
  20. Sad as it may seem but there is no avoiding police, some of them might even drive imports and/or read stuff on this forum to get hints of where we will be at certain times i.e. cruises, etc. It is not out of the question. My heart skips a beat every time I see one when I am driving my car, as yet have not been pulled over (thank god) but it will happen and they will try and ping me for something at the very least make sure they have a look at my car. What for I don't think they even know. Best anybody can do as an individual is drive sensibly on the streets to avoid cops having to put us all in a basket of "drifters and illegal drag racers", or whatever. It is not just cops either it is public perception. Public have a pretty narrow minded idea on what import drivers are like. Personally I would love to be able to meet with fellow import fans every month or even second month just to have a chat with other people about their cars and make a few good contacts. Anyway, my 2 cents. Big Mike PS: If Rann was serious he should train a dozen cops who were ex motorbike racers and put them on tricked Yamaha R1s and catch a few of these bloody insane jap bike riders! PPS: Sorry if this post deviated from the topic!
  21. No probs mate, call anytime. Mike
  22. Item: Standard R33 GTR fuel pump Item condition: Done 74000km in R33 GTR Extra Info: Perfect working order replaced by Nismo item Contact details: PM or Mobile 0407792299 Price: $130 ono In Adelaide, can see before you buy, will post at buyer expense. Mike
  23. Thanks for your concern. AFR is something Brett and I talked about a fair bit and yes, we went through the temeprature correction as well as insurance. I am perfectly happy with the AFR I can not see a real problem with it and I trust Brett's judgement considering his experience and knowledge. So, thanks for caring about my car so much
