tricstar replied to thegame-01's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I've had them in both positions and they definately work better up front, in front of the radiator, Trustr32,don't move the core, just cut or make new hoses.. -
Nismo Super Coppermix
tricstar replied to NisGTR's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
WOW its got to be hard the average punter who is looking for a good clutch for their Skyline If you look a couple of threads below at the "Need a new Clutch" thread you'll get the exact opposite opinions/advise, with most saying JB heavy single is the only way to go........ I haven't tried the Coppermix twins, so I can't say go option 1, but I have a couple of different twins, 2 JB's and a triple, and I'd have anything over a rebuilt "full monty" -
R33 Gtr Gearbox Issues
tricstar replied to tommis85's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
why not theres plenty of times I do due events, at a tight hair-pin or shiccane, or rolling up to a "give way", don't usually have any issues.. -
as a comparison get a price from Simon at Competition Gearboxes (03) 97233380 has done a few boxes for me and very reasonable

thought I would report back on this: ABS were only $60 for 2 rotors . and turn around time of about 1 hour which I thought was good. Kims Skim was $88, and he comes to you.. Because I didn't have time to go to Ossy Park, I rang Kim and he was at my work within 2 hours, looks and drive good, happy camper

Bubba otherwise if he can put it on a pallet and is at a business with a folklift (they are the big if's) then my freight guy will organise pick up and delivery ( same at other end, folk etc) or send to my warehouse, and the cost is about $70.. more than willing to help

R33 Gtr Gearbox Issues
tricstar replied to tommis85's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
The sad thing is that I did ask them to inspect the box before hand but they said that "she'll be fine" (because they got it from someone they "trusted") Argh! As for the 75w90, I ran that in my old box and in my GTST box...ran flawlessly The problem there is, if you don't have someone who does these boxes all the time, it can cost as much if not more than the box cost to get it striped and inspected, so it really is a lucky dip, generally cheaper to get the old one rebuilt, depending whats broken.. I had a box inspected thru a reputable workshop (in perth) and with new seals etc cost me $1100 to tell me it was all good (smashed it 3 weeks later anyway),, send them over east now and get broken boxes rebuilt for about $800. my gearbox guy also says to use 75-80, 75-90, anybrand, but with quite a bit of track work, change regularly ps this is in a GTR also. -
For all you guys wanting to try some events, and theres allways people asking, this is a good one.. I only just entered today so there must still be places available... You doing this one Matt , if not I need a co-driver

Thanks guys. Yeah I would definitely have gone to Bart but bunbury is out of the question. Need them done early in the week so I can bed them in before the Macrae Rally sprint on Thursday. So I'll give ABS a go Cheers

Need A New Clutch?
tricstar replied to R31Nismoid's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
thats odd, completely the opposite to my clutch history, never had a multi shudder like the singles just goes to show the differences in peoples experiences .. -
Need A New Clutch?

OK we'll leave the percentages vs brands etc out, that comment was only based on the amount of times I recall reading similar comments and personal experience, I don't want to argue numbers. Smashing boxes doesn't show what a fantastic clutch it is, but rather how hard it is on the driver train. From personal experience I didn't change driving style and had never broken a box until changing to a JB 4200lb clamp single, Anyway wheather it be materials or whatever, there seems to be a huge difference between peoples experiences, some love them say they last ages take heaps of abuse and have no problems, while others like me ( and I tried 2 of them ) found them shuddering heavy hitting and in the end would spot weld itself to the flywheel every time I'd launch it, and got less than 5000km before rooted, in contrast, with the same driving style I just got nearly 25000km out of a OS triple . I only give my opinion and experiences so people can make their own educated decision.. -
Need A New Clutch?
tricstar replied to R31Nismoid's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Marko & Mick, from a relatively small clutch shop, who specializes in heavy singles, there does seem to be a lot of reported box breakages from JB's ? compared to all the rest of the brands combined, would you not agree? I'm sure there are equal numbers of people with the other brands abusing their shit. ? -
nah seems fine on mine

Quaife Group Buy!
tricstar replied to bigmikespec's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
well I have 2 way OSGiken in the front and most of the time you wouldn't know its there.. clicks a bit when reversing into a carpark thats about it. -
As for how strong the drivetrain etc is. I've had 2 R33 GTR's and many different gearboxes, launched them hundreds of times and never broke anything launching. And never really bothered with any pre-loading or anything. One with only 400rwhp and one with lots more, always spins all 4 when you dump it. For the 1/4 it's definitely going have a better chance of hooking up with a little clutch slip. To the OP, getting 1.5 60foot on streets is awesome. Especially with just stepping off the clutch

close to a tank ?? some get up to 800km's these days whereas I'm at the other end with maybe 300km never been on a cruise, will try and make this one

here is some footage from the drags, of a few members

yeah thought I'd try the semi's, wasn't any better than when I ran on street tyres wrong sort of tyre, really need M/T's to get good 60' .. 1.9 is very average for us.. A mate I saw the following night told me about when he got it all right and nailed a 1.59 , not on drag rubber in a GTR R32 thats where its at ... nail one of them and that will get you into the 11's and me into the elusive 10's
