HELP!!!! car died maybe ignition relay??
gts4diehard replied to phatgtst's topic in General Maintenance
check your alarm, my car stopped in the middle of m1 about 6 weeks ago just out of brisi. one of the relays that immobilises the ignition (inside the alarm itself and soldered in to it) decided to burn out. It too was cranking over, no spark or fuel. Running perfectly before it cut out. It did give me some warning signs tho, cutting out whilst driving on a couple of occasions, pretty freaking roll-starting a car at 100kms in 5th when the ignition cuts out then cuts back in when it does it by itself. only cost me $22 for them to fit new relay, after getting them to come out to my house (Not $22) and diagnose problem, my alarm is 4yrs old and out of warranty but always has a problem or two every year, and it was 'professionally' fitted too. I would definitely see the alarm people. Stephen -

hi, just wondering if anyone has replaced the rear subframe bushes on a gtst? with either nismo or aftermarket bushes... I have a R32 gts4 with leaking subframe bushes and it appears to have a gtst rear subframe fitted. So I need to be able to source some gtst?? subframe bushes or atleast the dimensions to confirm against the subframe i have. The local Nissan dealer has been good and gotten me dimensions for Nismo gts4 bushes but now the dickheads in nissan melbourne are not being forthcoming with the Nismo gtst bush dimensions. I need to be sure of the dimensions if i decide to get nismo bushes because I have to pay for these parts up front and no refunds. ( GTR nismo subframe bushes are around $600 for a set of 4) So it would be really good to find out: - if anyone has actually changed their R32 GTST rear subframe bushes with after market bushes .. or if anyone knows the part number on gtst subframes and where to look for it so i can confirm the typeb o fsubframe. Any help much appreciated Stephen

hi bambinator, I dont know if the sub frames are the same between the R32 and R33. But I think the top control arms are different so maybe the subframes different. sorry cant be of more help. Jaffa if you are looking for front subframe parts, just pm me. Stephen
-
hi, are you still looking for some bits, I have a 32 gtr front subframe/crossmember, and most of the bits you seek. pm me if you still need them and i can work out a price Stephen

check your front castor rod bushes. run from front of car (from the subframe) back to lower suspension arm, approx. 60-70 mm dia. if they are the cause they will be wet with the silicone that is leaking out of them. p.s. the rear bushes(4 of them) that connect the subframe to the chassis also contain silicone as well as the bushes that hold the rear dif in the subframe ( just in case you back the car into your garage occasionally). not to expensive to replace the castor rod bushes, normally under $200 au a pair. has anyone done a resistance check on the new o2 sensor? I have a r31 '89 Ti and a '90 R32 gts4 (RB20DET) and they both have red/white/black wires, the r31 workshop (gregories) manual says on pg 94 to : 'measure the resistance between the two outer terminals of the oxygen sensor connector. The resistance should be 5 - 6 ohms. Renew the oxygen sensor if the ohmmeter indicates a malfunction.' does anyone know the resistance of a new o2 sensor? or know the specs from the RB20DET workshop manual?? its much easier to disconnect the plug and take a reading so if anyone has the info that would be great. At the moment my r31 gets ok economy and the reading is just on 6 ohms but my R32 is not so hot at the moment, its reading is 6.9 ohms - dont know if its stuffed (going by 31 manual) or maybe the R32 has a different resistance range. 1... have the tyres developed any bulges on the sidewalls? this can happen to new or old tyres and this will throw out the balance. 2... have you been getting the wheel balances done at the same place?, some place only balance to the nearest 10 grams, see if they can balance down to 5 grams or so, some car's steering/suspension are more accepting of out of balance wheels and you wont notice it so much and with others it will drive you crazy. 3 ...another imbalance cause can be just that the tyre looses it shape, some tyres are not perfectly round or do not retain their shape perfectly and this can cause the balance to go out as they wear thus needing rebalancing. you may need to take the tyre guy for a drive, their machines are not likely to show an imbalance if it occurs at 130 km/hr as their machines dont spin that fast - for safety resaons i've been told (in case things fall off). I nearly always end up getting tyres balanced more than once. good luck

also try out Noltec at http://www.noltecsuspension.com/ they have rear cradle bushes as do unique autosports.

Commodore VL vs Aussie R31 Skyline
gts4diehard replied to friendlyfrog's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
hi, go the skyline of course. i have a 89 ti and its a good car, would have been better if it had been built in japan but hey cant change that now. Up against vs s commodores its won with only mods being extractors and straight thru 2.5 inch exhaust. very comfortable and no rust, still goes hard and get 10l per 100km on a trip. Handling is 'nice' compared to my '32. Have driven a VL when it was six months old, it went very nicely, quite fast but body flex was a bit worrying. Parked car on a driveway that was angled and then levelled out- front wheels on flat ,back wheels on slope- over night and next day couldnt open back door without force. took a couple of hours of driving before the body 'realigned' itself. Had a friend who had a modified turbo vl which cracked the back windscreen whilst doing a dyno run... body flex... Very easy to see which is better car , how many vls are in good nick compared to skylines. Also heard about vl heads - something to do with a radiator for a ancient holden motor being used for a 'modern' engine -
I bought 2 GTS4 r32s in NZ in april 99, they were both 1990 models, 1 had 107000, the other 110,000 kms. They both ran ok and had straight bodies, I've always bought cars on the basis of the body first, it has to be straight. AS long as its straight use the doubtfulness of the kms as leverage when you are buying the car, say you not paying the sticker price and walk out if they dont play ball. Skylines will do a lot of kms, a 120,000 km example isprob better than an 80000km one as it will have had new cambelt etc. I have a friend with 260,000 on it and its still on original motor, got another auto in the last couple of weeks. -as per dairy dude. A telltale sign of odometer tampering is when the silver cambelt sticker on the cambelt cover is missing along with the numbers being out of alignment on the odometer. The dealers usually clean the cover and spray all that silicon crap on it to make it look like new. If the sticker is missing you can be fairly sure the belt has been changed and the car has done close to 100,000kms. mine still had the stickers, one had no writing on it, the other had 72000 on it. I have seen cars in yards in NZ with the stickers still on it and the dealer has forgotten to change them - one had more than a 100,000km discrepancy. I agree you can not expect the norm to be low km cars, it is the exception just as it is here. Maybe gtrs dont clock up the kms as much as the cheaper skylines because they are more collectable but they are cars that get bought by people who like driving- not parking. otherwise they'd buy a pulsar or something. my 2 cents Stephen

hi, i used to have the platinums in my R32 - gts4, they were ok until i started using optimax, i think the heat range of the plug did not suit the optimax as the plugs went orange on the plug insulators- the car started idling roughly so thats why i checked them. Consequently now running ngk copper plugs, they run sweet without any noticeable drop in power. The car has been to queensland raceway and been worked hard on a reasonably hot day and it ran perfectly over a 4 hour period, revving to 8000 on a couple of occasions. I think the only advantage is that platinums offer is that they dont need to be changed regularly. Having to get a mechanic to change your plugs every year on a RB20det would be a pretty expensive exercise so looking at it that way platinums are cheaper if you cant do it yourself. Stephen

shockies squeaking!!!
gts4diehard replied to Mr GTS4's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
hi, that squeak will more than likely be the top suspension arms. They squeak like crazy and are about $200 each at nissan plus fitting. They need to be fitted correctly (with the car suspension at normal driving height) or they flog out the bushes real quick. check the threads for top arms Stephen -
What is broken here ? - R32 GTS4
gts4diehard replied to armbrusb's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I think he said something about burning the rubber out, I would think if you had access to a good press that you could do it. I think it is a very big job to do, you have to take out the whole subframe. My friend is a mechanic so that gave him a head start. I will see if he can post a reply. Stephen -

gts4diehard replied to armbrusb's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Yes the bush is stuffed. That is the silicon gel that is used in a few of the skyline bushes leaking out. The front castor bushes will leak when they need replacing too. No, pineapples can not be used to replace this bush. I have been told they can help reduce the effects of the stuffed bush, i.e. fit pineapple bush over top of the stuffed subframe bush to lock it into place, but that the best remedy is to replace the bush - of course That being said you can fit the pineapples($120 set~) without taking the whole subframe off the car which I'm pretty sure you need to do to replace the subframe bushes. A friend of mine replaced his sub-frame bushes in his gts4, he said it was a bit of work. check out this address, they have subframe bushes. I have tried quite a few places for these bushes and so far have held off doing it because of cost. The price at this place doesnt seem to bad. They may know how much it is to fit them also. http://www.uniqueautosports.com/pricelists...%20steering.htm Stephen -
Hi, 2007 is when the next GTR is coming out, I saw the interview with Carlos, and he said he'll be the one to unveil it. P.S. Nissan was in the crap, but they implemented a 3 year plan to get out of it, which they did in 2 years- well according to the news on Nissan's Japan site, they are!

effects of lowering the skyline
gts4diehard replied to Greg's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
The set I got for my R32 GTS 4 had grooves machined into strut for slotting the spring carrier into, but they were GTR shocks, maybe that is the difference
