  1. in life, there are always risks involved. buying stocks, getting a new job and etc. I suppose I'm trying to minimise risks by asking questions/people's experiences. is that bad?
  2. driving a v35 from a local dealer tell me nothing in relation to compliance if I decided to import the car myself.
  3. didn't the compliance shop replace the tires? or maybe they did replaced the tires and you're keeping them in storage for now?
  4. I was reading a thread in OCAU where the guy's GF imported a supra through the supposed "reliable" and known broker and the car was denied compliance. there's a thread here in SAU where a stagea was also denied compliance due to emission problems for the particular model and this was imported through a broker who is one of the sponsors (old thread so the company may not be a sponsor now). there will always be risk in importing and I suppose I created the thread to know people's experience on importing coupes. it's quite possible that certain year's model is different from a previous one and this difference would make it fail during compliance. ps. I'm talking about stock 350gt
  5. and i apologise from not including such info I lived in SA so I suppose the list for local importer/workshop would be small. vic is okay too as it's very close and it's a few hours drive away
  6. I was reading OCAU and came across this statement: "The compliance workshops dont care do they? They are loosing money that Prestige and Jspec get. When the compliance workshop imports, they follow the car the entire process and make sure it gets preferential treatment, IE, no forklifts picking up and moving the car and things like that." My question is: is there a list of compliance shops that can bring in cars for customers? I searched for "DOTARS" on the net and came upon the RAWS .gov.au website. BUT I am not sure which link to follow. I tried this link "search for raw" (http://raws.dotars.gov.au/rawswebpublic/RAWPubSearch.asp) but I can search for shop. though I'm not sure if that meant all the shop can import cars. Thank you very much ps. Is it really safer importing via the compliance shop if this is possible?
  7. I was reading OCAU and the importing section here and it seems there are possibilities that a car cannot be complied by a shop (sometimes depends on the shop as well). so the question is: has anyone experienced (or know of anyone) who failed compliance? Did the shop repaired/replaced parts to get it complied? if yes, can you name them? thank you very much for the reply ps. I searched the forums but nothing came up about failing compliance for a v35
  8. I do not know you but a birth will always be a wonderful occasion. congrats and good health to mum and obi
  9. can someone please explain what is done when a "vin is fasted"? thank you
  10. has anyone else tried this solution with much success? thank you
  11. I have read the words mentioned in prestige's site and in one of the sticky thread. I search the forums but no explanation to what it is was given. It seems it's an on-road costs so I looked at transport.sa.gov.au (http://www.transport.sa.gov.au/registratio...egistration.asp) and I cannot find any info it. So can someone please explain it? thank you very much. ps. do you know how much is it in your state?
  12. most 350gt has the skyline word at the back. I suppose that's all what the thieves need to know.
  13. that's true. BUT if you go to marion on a busy day like yesterday, it make take ages before you find a more expensive car with free slot beside it! ========= I thinking of getting a 350gt to enjoy but it seems like it's a thief magnet! it'll be a daily driver parked in an open parking area (flinders uni) and I shudder to think that I have to wonder what is happening with my car every single time.
  14. Well, the amount of money the importer requests is quite small in the scheme of things (depending on the value of car). thank you. I suppose that somehow confirms my suspicions on the use of exporters instead of importers.
  15. I am quite keen on getting a 350gt but these horror stories is making me think twice!
  16. is it safe parking in malls? how about when visiting friends and parking in the street?
  17. I was looking at importers at first but there is a recent thread about exporters. why would I use them? I was looking at the services an importer provides and it seems importers takes all the hassle away (from buying the car all the way to compliance). What service does an exporter provides other than selecting/buying the car and putting it into a boat? Thank you ps. I did a quick search and nothing came up.
  18. Are cops/motor vehicle registry able to tell if the tires in the car are from japan? If they still have a lot of life in them, it would be a waste to throw them away. thank you.
  19. which one? I also searched the forums and got serveral threads. but the reason why the bulbs were removed wasn't mentioned at all.
  20. as title. is it because it doesn't meet ADR specs? if yes, what does it exactly doesn't meet? I searched the net but nothing useful came up. thank you
  21. some dealers provide warranty (not statutory warranty) on the cars they sell. does anyone know if this warranty covers everything that is not "wear and tear"? thank you. ps. I searched the net but nothing useful came up.
  22. this looks more menacing than a samurai sword: http://www.globalgear.com.au/prod503.htm
  23. so it's a combination of supply vs demand and technology used. thank you for the help
  24. I've searched the net but came away empty-handed. anyway, is there a reason why tires for larger rims are more expensive? looking at the side-view photo of a 15in vs 18in, it seems to me that the 15in contains more raw materials thus it should be more expensive and they seems to have the same outer diameter. I am probably wrong but my reasoning was just a stab in the dark. thank you very much for the replies
  25. pictures of dashboard confirmed series2: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...t&id=147689 2003 coupe dashboard: http://liveimages.carsales.com.au/dealer/c...int/9059039.jpg with the 2003 image: is it series1? the difference I see between the 2 are the buttons in the middle are colored silver for the 2003 and black for the confirmed series2. and the controls for the aircon seems different as well. maybe there's more to it? thanks again
