Acl Product Warning! Rb30/25 Hybrid Buildup
pnblight replied to the_tonkau's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I personally hav never seen a piston with that sort of clearance ARIAS have problems with 0.0045" and are normally run at less than recomend but if the acl have required 0.007" clearance that is what has caused all the problems. What were the ring gap like and did this engine breathe or what. pete -

Tomei Poncams Installed ! Hmmm power...
pnblight replied to rev210's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
sorry beerbaron but the cam duration mentioned are right http://www.tomei-p.co.jp/_2003web-catalogu...r_engindex.html and i believe the opposite that rb26 are normally over cammed on the exhaust not the inlet as the manufactures spec cams and some aftermarket cams combo like this combo we are looking at ,run a longer inlet than exhaust for street use. To give the best combination of power and responce. But all that said and done the 260/260 9.15mm poncams are a awesome bolt in combo and i believe the best bolt ins on the market. Currently i'm looking at running some procams with high lift profiles and different duration combination to see how much can be extracted from my GT2560Rs turbos last dyno sheet was 529.4rwhp(397rwkw) on the poncams and i know that TWO.06l is running poncams at 442kw on HKS 2530s (but serious boost and c16)and 10.38 1/4 mile (thats a seriously fast low mount combo) -
Tomei poncams are the go from greenline.jp or nengun.com the beauty with poncams is they are bolt in replacements, i normally surgest adjustable cam wheels so the cams can be fine tuned on the dyno, plus it give you the able to tune to different characteristics. pete SK you may not believe me BUT GTR can and offen do cop damage from an explosing exhaust wheel and it's not so much dust more like little chunks which get hammered into valve seats/piston top and head surface, plus normally the cylinders in line with the turbos 2 or 5 bear the brunt of the damage.

Personally i remove the engine much differently but you need access to a 2 post hoist and a nice solid metal trolley(i use a friend workshop after hours and pay for the use with cartons lol) Basically past the car on the hoist and i drop the subframe/engine/gearbox out on the trolley and lift the car off the top the last GTR i did in 3 hours by myself once it is out of the car it is so easy to work on (would would even concider doing turbo change with way now) i then remove the gearbox from engine and the engine out of the subframe and place the subframe back in the car temporary until the reinstall. The whole job from driving in the car, to pushing the car on the car trailer to take it home with motor and gear box on the back of the ute was about 4 1/2hours (by myself) i just had a couple of friends at the end to push the car around. pete -
ok cool , so who sells King Bearings and what kind of cost we looking at for a set of bigs and mains. on another matter the nissan specs clearances are pretty damn good ie there factory spec 0-3 for main tunnel and main journals is only +/- 0.0005" for the 4 spec sizes or a mass producted engine thats pretty impressive and no wounder people dont have many problems with tolerances even with out using the 6 grades of nissan bearing. pete
-
hi Greg, what you think of the ACL bearings in comparison to std nissan and nismo. As i was about to order a full set of nismo bearing. pete

I'm running two bosch units on my GTR off the shelf unit bought from Repco with very nice plugs, i was luck as i know a guy who worked there so i cant comment on price. BUT they are the same as z32afm the plate everything as bosch make the afms for nissan. pete

if you dont want to have to machine the head and replace valve spring, cam retaining studs and lifters(depending on lift) the TOMEI 260 deg 9.15mm PONCAMS are direct bolt in fit and i got two rb26 making 400rwkw+ on them with great responce with small twin turbos. i think the combo will make the power you want with cams you may struggle without them, i would recommend adjustable cam wheels if you are willing to spend the time tuning them (well worth it on rb26 and especially rb26/30). and i would go the aftermarket rods as SK stated other ideas you might want to concider tomei oil gallery restrictor ($6) N1 oil pump or better N1 water pump metal gasket instead of o-ringing the block low temp thermostat (if your going to work it hard for long periods)

wrxhoon is on the money r34gtr turbos CERAMIC 1bar to 1.1bar MAX (friend ran 1.3bar and has now got a new engine because of it OUCH) the dusting reason is simple the exhaust wheel is doing how many rpm's and when the particles let go there likely travel around bullet velocity now try and stop a bullet with wind speed(exhaust gas) that particle is going to travel some distance before it slows down and the travel path is only like less than 200mm to exhaust valve head. pete

after maxing two out on my gtr i would estimate around ~260/270rwhp or 195/202rwkw (this is only an estimate as i made 530rwhp nearly maxed out and estimated i would have FSD at ~540rwhp) pete

let me start by saying nice choice, i am a bit of a fan of the rb24 and will be building one in the near future, BUT like sydney kid stated i think your goals are a little off for starters are you after 500bhp or 500rwhp (as you stated 500bhp at the hubs?) as there is a big difference and i think both are a little high for what you NEED to go drifting (drifting isn't ruled by hp) i think a figure more like 400 to 450bhp or 340 to 380rwhp would serve you well and should be able to be gain with decent responce. The first turbo that comes to mind is the GT3071R as featured on the ATP web site on a 2.4 litre motor making 400bhp and full boost by 3000rpm http://www.atpturbo.com/root/releases/release051404.htm with the motor your building you might even get away with the GT3076R As for the motor configuration i know your got the money to throw at it but it really doesn't need alot of big dollar engine parts to do what you want reliable. New R34GTR Crank $1100 aud (good to 10,000rpm and seen 900bhp+) New N1 oil pump $560 aud GTR rods with new arp rod bolts (again seen run 800bhp+) Tomei forged rb24 piston Tomei gasket kit Nismo main bearing Nismo big end bearing Solid lifter kit Cams 260deg 10.25mm and adj cam wheels 600cc injectors Nismo fuel pump for gtr APEXI pfc and avcr Z32 afm gtr intercooler (i would not go big as its not need and would only hinder responce) Greddy 48mm radiator oil cooler with relocator(brand etc doesnt really matter) you'll need to do some nice custom work aswell exhaust plenum head porting obviously you can buy nicer name brand gear but i just stated what i think you need to achieve your goals and the let over money might be wiser to be invested in suspension, diff, gearbox, brakes, cage etc the gear you really need to be a good drift car. my2c pete

well i know you can achieve around mid 500's at the wheels with a twin low mount GT2560R 707160-5 turbo setup with what i describe as no lag what so ever (~20psi) as i have done it on a number of different cars the other turbos to concider would be HKS2530 but i believe these don't arn't as efficient at low boost levels. Personally i don't think you need motec as the pfc is an awesome ecu but ha if your got the money to spend to purchase such a unit and tune it why not. The most critical thing with this kind of setup is a free flowing exhaust(critical) as a slightly restrictive exhaust with kill top end power and torque and dull the turbo responce. To get you and idea of the performance of a well put to getting combo i recently built a r34 which on first serious tune made 524rwhp at a low 16.8psi (please keep in mind this turbos will run 20psi no worries Garret Australia informed me there rated to 2bar)with not cam timing tuning done or anything, the only reason we didn't turn it up was the std fuel system was starting struggle (yes a std fuel system makes 500rwhp happly) so we have fit a nismo fuel pump now and cam wheels and we went to try again be the own had fitted a quiet exhaust system which had unbelievable changed the total motor charactisics (i would not have believed such a difference if i had seen it myself) so needless to say we have refitted the good exhaust and will be turning up the whick very soon. summary yes you can achieve what you want but i wouldn't stray for twin low mount or get to big on the cam duration (especially exhaust) or you will suffer low responce problems. my 2c pete

340kw At The Wheels On Gt-ss Turbo's
pnblight replied to 600hp's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Hows it going 600hp Do you think you have found the limit of the GT-SS at the 360awkw? (great effort by the way) I hate it when people talk what boost by when (cos it really has no relationship to power and torque) But i would be interested to see the torque curve you achieved as to me it's the most important thing as it's what drop you back in the seat and keeps you there lol. pete ps great to see you posting results again cheers -
Can I Upgrade Injectors Without Retune
pnblight replied to itbmils's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
will need to be adjusted on the pfc and a/f checked but it would only be to check the calibration of the setting for the new injectors a few runs on the dyno should do it, no worries 1hour but no more than 1 1/2hours MAX(if it's tuned well now. -
