Tomei Poncams Installed ! Hmmm power...
pnblight replied to rev210's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I think there is one thing to take into account when concidering adjustable cam wheels and the tuning of them *the cam timing to crank relationship on different motors can varies due to machining tolerances (tall block ,tall head and short cam belt etc etc)and yes i know we are not talking much here BUT i found by adjusting my poncams on my gtr 1deg of cam wheel rotation gave a gain of 30hp, SO YOUR CAM WHEELS MAY HELP YOU TO SET THE TIMING BETWEEN CRANK AND CAM TO STD(not always to a different setting), as every motor like Sydneykid said is different. So my advice would be to buy and try adjustable cam wheels (esp on gtrs) but get them tuned by someone willing to take the time to set them properly My R33GTR gain over 100rwhp Rep003 rb26 4 door auto gain around 50rwhp on std cams so it worth a try pete -
And just wait to see what the future holds :flamed: for Adrenaline

Well i think the garret 320hp ball bearing (R34 N1 as sold by Unique Auto Sport)are the go myself (not what horsepower in a box are selling, these are not gtr bolt in turbos)and the only combo I HAVE SEEN compare are the HKS 2530( but i'm sure the trust/tomei/apexi items are all good turbs) and i would love to know the specs on the IHI turbs on the Z tune. The only GTSS i have seen make some serious hp seemed to lack a bit when run down the strip but they are still developing this car and by the size of the budget i'm shore they will get results.

did you get a price on the piston kits $$

i personally cant see a problem with drive it , i wouldn't go ringing it neck tho as the maps are unchanged and it still does all its calculations from afms, rev and o2 sensors etc, it may just run in a slightly different part of the map. So basically take it cruisy keep an eye out for any engine light flicker (very unlikely) and get to the dyno as soon as you can. pete

just talk to SERCO the WISECO 87mm and 87.5mm $1250 per set(including rings) and for transport for me in wa about $15 shipping got to say are well priced

your right on the money here a combo i will make 450rwhp(walk in the park) if tuned well APEXI pfc (avcr is a good boost controller aswell) 320hp garret turbos or HKS 2530 (stay away from the horse power in a box set) 700cc sard injectors Tomei poncams 260deg 9.15mm lift (or close to) Tomei adjustable cam wheels (take the time to adjust them) afms 20/25rb or z32 turbo back exhaust (twin 3" dumps into 3.5" single good place to start) custom piping to the new from turbos to 80mm afms(3') this combo is good for a great deal more than what you want but it will give great drivability and future development. my car running 530rwhp rich madsons r33 on good fuel have seen run 550rwhp+ and these cars on std internals have been going hard for sometime now with out a single problem. hope it helps pete

Rexbo how can you say a single is almost always better than twin when in your own words the twin perform better (recovery spool up)(less lag between gears) and are perferred all the major time attack teams. I don't know a race team in the world who would want to install a turbo system with more lag in it. (ie thats why there are basically none). Twins give best on road drivability and spool up lag and that is why they are the system of choice of every major R&D team in the world. Nissan ,Porsche ,Toyota ,HKS ,Tomei ,Apexi how can they all be wrong????

where on earth did you guess that from ants 680rwhp only made 142mph so you think 53 less hp = 2mph lewah 597rwhp ran 132mph dirtgarage 626rwhp ran 130mph so when you compare to some real facts and runs it looks pretty much on the mark. but simone with all that track time running your gtr who would know better than you ,OPPS forgot i dont believe your has even seen the tarmac. carefull with these turbos as they are not true bolt ons the compressor out and turbine out put are different to the gtr turbos and will require custom piping and bump pipes and they don't come with studs either.

Yeah its not just not the engineers but also the company like HKS,TOMEI and APEXI top performance gtr's are twins aswell and if your going to talk hp what about Veilside 1400hp plus 2.6Litre gtrs on twin turbos but obvisiously these companys need to come listen to the aussie back yard experts cos there got it all wrong. I surgest a few guy could benefit from reading a book by Gramham Bell called Forced Induction. It based on facts and on cars developed in F1 and WRC and the principles that have been developed in all areas of forced induction.

Mik i got to agree with you from all the published documentation i have read multi turbo configurationhas been known to have a clear efficience edge over a single arrangement( due to in one part the clear exhaust signal) And people just for a moment think about ever top of the range turbo charged performance car on the market i can think of nissan ,toyota, porsche are all multi turbo , And your trying to tell me they spend million of dollars on development to built some of the fast cars on the planet to built multi turbo cars ,to have only gone backward from the base model unit (ie gts to gtr)I DONE THINK SO. ok the fast gtrs in world hks/veilside/gtr700/Keir wilson etc etc all twin the best track gtrs in the world (other end of the scale "responce") all twins never seen the nissan racing team run a single turbo set up I WOUNDER WHY NOT , if what you say is true that single is best why would a team with hugh money resource and R&D backing not have gone to that configuration for an edge ,BECAUSE IT ISN'T.

no chance LOVE YOUR WORK two.06l

yeah was a nice run on SLICKS but the other two big singles i've seen have battled to say the least to get them off the line(no low down grunt or torque or rapid spool up in these examples) And one of the guys actual said he would have trade the power delivery of his single for what we were getting out of the small garret in and instant and as for see at the plex, yeah right i'll grow old and retirer before you put car where your mouth is?

Well after talk to Keir Wilson at drag combat in Perth about std component strength and other issues. The biggest problem you'll will face is block strength in either the std rb26 or rb30 as i would think them quiet similar in strength. The quote that KW told me was that the std rb26 will break about 800hp (and even suggested not to go over 750hp if you wanting it reliable) And before you guys jump up and down yes they might more hp for a while but the thread was about reliable 1000hp and i think KW opinion should hold a bit of weight due to his expirence with this sort of motor. So if your serious about a reliable big hp motor you will want to look at either GTR N1 GT block (think walled) or maybe the OS Giken 3 litre small motor. my 2c pete
