What engine oil do you run / where you running when the engine failed?
-
standard nissan hoses should have no problem at all, you obviously have a different problem, im hoping that your clamping them down properly? otherwise you may have combustion gasses leaking thru your headgasket into your cooling system causing the hoses to let go, although you would get over heating problems before this would happen im sure... does the car overheat?

thanks for the advice guys, found a cheap one for sale, im gonna pick it up asap bunta how much power did it make? i have no idea wat to expect haha

Hi guys im thinking of putting an Apexi AX53B70 turbo (P25 Rear housing) i have lieing around but my budget is abit tight at the moment so my question is, do I really need a z32 afm to run this turbo such that i can make about 350hp? if not, how much power will the stock r34 neo afm cap me at? ive been reading up on it and i keep reading different power levels, close to the 300-340mark but id rather find out if anyone has made 350 on a stock one before

Questions About Mantaining And Driving A Forged Motor
snozzle replied to Rolls's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Seeing as though the thread has been revived already i also have a question to ask I have recently built up an sr20det for an s14 running a high mount gt3082r with cp pistons and cp rings, acl race bearings etc and we have done roughly 300kms on a rich run in tune with rev limit of 4500rpm wen we got it back from tuner (engine ran for no more than 2 hours on the dyno, probably about 1 hour really) we did an oil change (20w50 mineral oil) but wen i opened the oil cap a small wiff of white smoke came out of the rocker cover, didnt think anything of it.. a few hundred kms later, it never did it again, doesnt blow any smoke at all either, we actually noticed the turbo was starting to spool abit earlier also, there is no piston slap at all wen hot, sounds like a stock engine, if not quieter!.. but has a very tiny amount of piston slap wen cold, can only hear it if bonnet is open and ur head is right ontop of the engine anywho.. the tuner is booked out for a full rpm tune for another 3 weeks so my question is, will it make any difference to the way the rings bed in if we keep "running" the motor in on this tune with 4500rpm limit (boost just barely comes to 0.7bar at this rpm) or should we cap our kms to 500km till we can put abit more boost through it and higher rpm (7000 or so) thanks -
just go there yourself, why risk all that money with people you dont know / never met and yes car must go over pits so be careful on how it has been modified as for car transporters.. autotrans seemed to be the cheapest company by a few hundred buks wen i brought my 33 gtr over from adelaide

Im not suprised, my car got a yellow for only 1 reason - the lowest point on my car (my dump pipe) was 90mm off the ground, only 10mm off the legal limit funny thing was, i gave way to him as he passed me at a round about and then later down the road, around 100m, he stopped at a bus top, waited for me to pass, and then sped up behind me, right up my ASS.. then sirens come on.. im thinking..... wat the f**k man, ur kidding me..... then hes like, this is a random license and breathaliser check, im like bullshit! (in my head ofcourse) acted all nice and polite, and he still slapped on a yellow some cops really have their priorities ALL WRONG, anyone who challenges me on this should be shot!

if they are fine how they are now, why do tomei specify a clearance of 0.45mm when the standard clearance is meant to be 0.20mm IN and EX ?? im not saying your incorrect, but i would like to know the reason why tomei would want to make a head noisier if it purely doesnt matter? i was in the same boat a few months ago but we shimmed them to 0.45mm and they have been fine ever since, very smooth engine operation, very chunky midrange, just a tad ticky on idle haha

very nice example of an r34 gt-t, just excellent, love it -
id definitely clean that shit out, it will smell and it may start some rust on the under body of your car!
-
crc that shit

no need to run dodgy octane boosters, just dont drive like superman till u get 98, it will be perfectly fine

easy fix uleh

im sure hail damage is fully covered if u have full comp insurance but.... a customer came to our workshop for a quote on a rebuild for his engine as his delivery driver drove the car into a 1 meter deep puddle, 3rd cylinder dropped compression, most likely a bent con rod from the water, he had full comp insurance on it but they are only covering half the cost of the engine as it was partly (in my opinion 100%) the drivers fault for being stupid enough to drive into one.. lol there is no hail damage on the car though i bet there are a few cars out there with bent con-rods since yesterday.. hmm good time to buy i think

i vote to ban this ken-r34 guy hey, wat a meany!

i dont understand the logic of "atmospheric bovs are to keep your boost up between gear changes" when they actually dispel the charged air out of ur system quicker than a system with no bov...
-
i really dont see how compressor surge can damage a turbo, ive blocked off the stock bov on alot of cars ive owned and ive never seen any added shaft play from when ive owned the car to when ive sold it (roughly 40,000kms) ppl will claim it causes turbo failure eventually but ive seen alot of turbos fail running the standard bov.. so just coz a turbo failed with a blocked bov doesnt mean its the cause If you like the sound of compressor surge, block off you bov. If you prefer the sound of a bov whether it be atmospheric or plumbed back, go for that, i dont believe it will affect the reliability of your turbo and hurting your engine is out of the question. Performance wise - on a stock ecu that has not been tuned; it may cause the car to run abit richer and pop occasionally so its also important to know what ecu you will be running aswell. If its stock ecu, stick with the stock plumbed back bov car will drive smoother but if its going to be tuned, decide before you get it tuned so that its tuned accordingly.

oh shit, would be interesting to see how it managed to sit itself on its roof haha f**k, vtec kicked in i bet

yeah kakimoto make great mufflers as do most other jap shops, stick to jap and you cant go wrong
-
you dont NEED the head to be off the car but it would b easier than putting the timing belt on every time u want to test the clearance of every valve with a feeler gauge
-
they are often termed "drop in" as they can be used with the stock valve springs however since the r34 neo head runs solid lifters, the valve clearance is essential stock valve clearance on r34 neo head is 0.20mm, in the tomei spec sheet, the type b 260 degree 9.15mm lift cams have to be run with a 0.45 clearance wen u install the poncams the clearance wont b far off 0.20mm gtr heads from factory run 0.38mm clearance on exhaust side and 0.45mm on intake side, thus they r literally drop in for gtr engines, but not for gtt motors for the above reason the shims are what u must change in order to change the valve clearance to what tomei want, precision shims australia can supply you with different thickness shims this is also why gtr heads are alot more noisy than the gt-t heads, larger clearance = more noise, which is wat u will get wen the shim the poncams to 0.45 lol, why to 0.45? i have no idea, thats wat tomei say so thats wat we have done and we have had no problems, just insane mid range and a very tuff, gtr like exhaust note haha where is the car/head located? if your having trouble i may be able to help you out with it if your not too far from my workshop edit: heres a link to the specs if u have lost them http://www.tomei-p.co.jp/_2003web-catalogu...2_cam_RB25.html interestingly enough, the rb25 neo exhaust poncam is exact same part number as rb26 one so that also says sumthing but the intake cam is slightly different due to the vtc gear
