  1. Guys, do you have any photos of the cannister set-up? I've just found out my cannister has been moved before i bought the car, and i'm worried that it's not working properly. The line going under the car (which ends near the cat) has vacuum, and i'm not sure it should?
  2. Hi Guys, Apologies in advance if this has been answered before, i've been searching the forums and elsewhere, but still haven't came accross a solid answer. I've got a 97 R33 GTST, and i'm trying to determine what the diagnostics system is. Is it an ODB compliant interface? I want to know as a friend has some software that can interface with ODB2, and if i've got it, i'd like to give it a spin. I've seen the word CONSULT alot when searching, is this a different standard than ODB?
  3. Looks like it might be the charcoal cannister pipe, which must have popped off the other day. I'll be dropping it at the mechanic in the next day or two to get it all put back together, and hopefully that will be my problem solved !! Then i'll be back to enjoying my new car, rather than stressing about it
  4. Well you guys were right! It was coming to the charcoal cannister, which i finally found under the front right guard. That pipe running alongside the exhaust i assume was supposed to go to the fuel tank to bring in the fumes. And it must have been what popped when my car started playing up. Funny thing is, that split pipe i thought was blocked wasn't actually. Had a plug in it, but it let air though... so air must have been going in all the time... hmmm... Gonna drop it into the mechanic in the next day or two to get them to plug it all back the way its meant to be. I'd do it myself but i don't get any time during the week to do these things. Thanks for everyones help
  5. Interesting... why would someone remove the charcoal cannister? And what's it supposed to look like? If it is missing, should i attempt to replace it?
  6. Hey guys, I've tried to trace the pipe through, still haven't found where it connects to the engine (must do somewhere, as it's sucking in air...). I've attached some more photos of the pipe going through the engine bay: 1. Pipe exiting engine bay 2. Comes from a split pipe at front passenger side (other side of split is blocked off) 3. Out front next to radiator 4. Under radiator Then it goes in under the front guard on drivers side... I'll need to jack the car up and remove the shielding under the guard to find where it goes, and i am waiting on a jack so can't do this yet Duncan, what do these breathers look like (i pretty new to looking more closely at car engines). Also, i started this thread in relation to my other thread about my car stalling the other night and blowing black smoke, [http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...view=getnewpost] out of curiosity, i blocked this pipe up, and my unstable idle seems to have stopped, and black smoke has gone. Doesn't tell me what the hell the pipe is for but it may have been the source of my problems... further investigation to continue.
  7. Nope, why do you ask?
  8. Checking under the car for a leak, found this pipe just sitting there before the cat... its got vacuum as well, anyone know what it is? I thought the only air going into the engine goes through the intake... but then again, i'm no mechanic
  9. Hi All! Owned my skyline (R33 GTS-T) for nearly 2 weeks, and can't stop reading these forums So much information to be gleaned, truly amazing. Last night i read a 26 page argument about whether the sensor in the cat is an o2 senor, a pyrometer or some other doohicky!??!? Reading the saga nearly melted my brain , i think i got to about page 4 hahaha. Previous cars are: 2xNissan Silvia, 93 Supra N/A, 03 Integra Type R, 90 Integra (my s#!t-box car), and now another Nissan (currently behaving badly - but that's another thread) Anyway, congrats on such a helpful forum site, hopefully I'll be joining the NSW club soon.
  10. Hey mate. Well yeah, i had hoped to post many ' i love my new skyline' posts, before i got to my ' damn my car is dead i need help' post; but i guess that happens. Hopefully, my next post will be 'hey i found the problem, all is sweet' And thanks for the tip, i will check the intake also... happened last night, and really need to go over it in daylight to get a proper look at whats going on.
  11. Hey guys, got a problem with my new car (far out, only my third post too ), and was hoping someone could give me some advice; I was driving at about 30km/h, about to pull into my driveway, when i heard a muffled pop, then my car shuddered a little. I pulled into the driveway, and found my car had very little power, wouldn't idle properly, and then stalled. I had to roll it the rest of the way in. I checked for oil leaks, nothing. It struggled to start, and then wouldnt idle cleanly. There are no ticking or nasty sounds from the engine, though i could hear a hissing sound like a vacuum or a leak in the exhaust or something. Coming out of the back of the exhaust is a tonne of black particles, like soot, or sand or something. A friend suggested the cat might have died, i can only hope it's something that simple Does anyone have any ideas as to what it might be? I'd really appreciate any help. Cheers!
  12. Thanks for the input GTST! Where do you plan to get the stock parts from?
  13. Gday guys! I'm a new skyline owner and have to say these forums are awesome! I've been reading it for days on end and getting no sleep Anyway, on to my newb question(s): The skyline i bought (R33 GTST) came with a HKS mushroom filter, which i find to be bloody noisy and have ordered an Apexi power intake filter (or whatever they're called) to replace it. I was planning to put a box around this for legal issues, and was also considering setting up some kind of CAI piping into the box, but after reading it sounds like everyone touts the stock box/intake as superior for close-to-stock cars (mines got only the filter and a ?cat-back? exhaust AFAIK) So i was wondering what would be the best option: 1. Find a stock box + intake, hack it to fit the Apexi (pod) filter. 2. Find a stock box + intake, forget the pod filter, use a k&n panel filter instead (totally stock setup) 3. Foget the stock box/intake and just build a partition/box for pod & a CAI If the stock options are best, where to find them? Seems most cars have pod filters installed lol, so surely those original parts must be lying around somewhere? Also, what's the Z32 AFM? I assume that AFM = Air Flow Meter, is Z32 the stock meter attached to the intake pipe after the filter? Appreciate any advice
