Tyre Sizing Question And Abs On R34 Gtt

Yeah I'm not concerned about overall tyre size, just running a different size front to back in terms of overall diameter and if it will play up with the ABS etc -
Tyre Sizing Question And Abs On R34 Gtt
Chris32 replied to Chris32's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I'm thinking of running 225/45 front and 235/40 rear -
Quick question, currently running 225/45/18 front and 245/40/18 rears. Will changing to a 235/40 rear tyre upset the ABS or traction control at all? I'm not too fussed about the TC, as thats off when I drive it. From online guides, the rolling diameter is as follows 225/45 is 659mm 245/40 is 653mm 235/40 is 645mm Is this going to pose much of a problem? 235/40 wide tyres are so much cheaper and easier to come by than than 245/40. Rims are 18x10 Chris

Gktech fan rested for daily duties, just a bit too noisy. I'll hang onto it for track duties where I'm sure it will perform perfectly. Replaced the castor rods with some Cusco adjustables, and have wound a decent amount of castor into it. The stock bushes were a bit knackered, and caused the wheel to rub on the back guard lining in certain conditions. The steering is much more stable at speed and flicks back to centre nicely, with the car being much more responsive steering wise. The gap between the guard and the rear of the wheel has been doubled, so there is zero scrubbing at all now - win! While the wheels were off I gave the front calipers and hubs a quick spray with black paint, looks good behind black/silver rims and the blue nuts. Going to install some adjustable rear camber arms to get the rear wheels gripping a bit more, new tyres going on in the next week so I want to get that sorted so the insides don't get chewed out too quick -
Pulled it off over the weekend and put the stock fan back on. The extra noise got pretty annoying, especially when driving on open/windy roads where you are on/off the throttle. I'll chuck it on if I am going to do a track day, but for daily duties the stock one wins because of the lack of noise. My fan hub is working fine also.

I've got some very strong double sided tape Glyn, we used it at work. I've used it to stick side skirts on etc and its very strong. I often drive past your work and I'm happy to drop some off if you want. I'll bring the 34 this time!
-
You can run the AFM without the mesh, I'd take it off rather than risk sucking it into the turbs
-
Looks good Glyn, love those rims!

DIY posted here for the wheel bearing replacement - http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/434655-r34-gtt-rear-wheel-bearing-replacement/ Chucked some gktech 15mm spacers on the front to fatten it up a bit, and grabbed a gktech upgraded fan and RB adapter while I was at it. The fan I'm in two minds about, as it seems to cool better but is pretty noisy for daily use. I'll leave it for a bit and see if I get used to it. Installation was a breeze and everything fits perfect. It sits a little closer to the radiator, so its almost entirely in the shroud - which should mean maximum efficiency. The spacers went on without any drama, with the rims having previously been machined to accept the stock stud length. I picked up some blue D1 spec wheel nuts, which are open ended to suit the longer stud length of the spacers. I've got no problems with using the nuts on extended studs, however I'll probably grab some steel studs from gktech when they are in stock. I'll chuck a few pics up when I can -
Other than the increased noise, the car seems to go just as well. I'll watch the economy to tell me if there is any extra load on the engine overall
-
Thats what I'm trying to work out. I'm pretty sure its not locked up, as I can rev the engine and the fan speed only increases a little bit. I've got a spare hub that I know for sure isn't locked, however the bearing has a bit of play. If I get chance I'll swap them over and compare noise
-
Mines loud enough to hear it in the cabin with the windows up, although my exhaust isn't very loud. To compare it against something, the fan noise is louder than the induction noise with the stock airbox until about 3500rpm (by then its approaching full boost on the stock turbo) I'm undecided if I can live with it, I might just keep it for track days etc
-
Ok, makes sense if its going to push more air!

I managed to get a gktech fan cheap during one of their sales a few weeks ago. I installed it on the weekend, and have driven it for the past 3 days. The only temp gauge I have to go off is the oil temp gauge on my GTT, and that has dropped from 82-85 down to 75-80 on normal driving, so I assume the whole engine is being cooled better with the gktech fan. However, the fan does seem pretty noisy. I've had a viscous hub fail on the fan before, which makes it sound like a EL Falcon all the time! With the gktech fan, it has got that 'roar' back of a dud hub on the fan. Even at low to mid rpm, the fan is roaring. I'm not sure if its just the fan blowing more air, or if my hub has shat itself with the change of fan blade/load. I haven't had time to swap the old fan back yet, and decided I'd seek an opinion before changing it over. If anyone else has one I'd appreciate your feedback Cheers, Chris
