Oil Catch Can Question? (little Confused Here)
Chris32 replied to sidewazegtst's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I don't think so, as far as I know, they go down to your carbon canister near your airbox, and get rid of fuel vapour etc. The only way to do it really, is the way I have mine if you want it to run properly without venting to atmo. And this requires some sort of filter like steel wool in a stocking inside the catch can to trap the oil vapour or block off your PCV valve, and the pipe that goes to the turbo intake, and run the catch can to atmosphere with a filter of some sort on the catch can itself to stop dirt and shit getting in Using any other lines is pointless, as they have no purpose for venting crankcase gasses As for getting rid of the BOV return on the intake pipe, just blank that off on the actual pipe near the AFM if you want to run a BOV that vents to atmo All of the other pipes serve a purpose, and from my experience only make your car run worse with them disconnected or blocked running a AFM based ecu Chris -

To get it setup properly, and not venting to atmo, it has to be setup like mine is, as per my post/pic -
Oil Catch Can Question? (little Confused Here)
Chris32 replied to sidewazegtst's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
As Sydneykid said, under vacum there are no problems, but as soon as you get boost, the PCV valve gets shut of, and then there is no where for the blow by to go, hence your dipstick getting blown out -
Oil Catch Can Question? (little Confused Here)
Chris32 replied to sidewazegtst's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I'll try and explain my setup, as it doesn't vent to atmosphere and works pretty well 1) PCV valve to cam cover - leave this, as it allows pressure in the crankcase/cam cover to be sucked into the plenum at idle and negative boost pressure. 2) My catch can is plumbed into the line that went from the cam cover to the intake pipe. By placing your catch can here, it picks up all the crap coming out of the cam covers when on boost. Inside my catch can, it contains stainless steel wool, which is stuffed into a stocking to keep it all in place. So the path of the air goes out of the cam cover, through the steel wool/stocking filter, and then into the front of the turbo 3) Here you can see the orientaition of the pipe work, in and out P.S - sorry the picture is a bit dodgy By doing it this way, smelly (and illegal) catch can vapour is eliminated, as its all contained within the filter. You just need to change the filter setup once every 6 months or so, or whenever its dirty Hope this helps, Chris -
Quick Question Whats The Max Power In One In Aust
Chris32 replied to 1400r's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I *think* I remember reading that there was a guy in QLD that ran a built RB20 with something like a Trust T-78, and made 380odd rwkw? Its in the RB20 260rwkw and over thread I think, I can't be rooted looking through the 60 odd pages though! -
I agree, but I'd be adding boost 14 psi, with one of those $20 valves and then go from there I have spent 120,000kms driving my R32 in peak hour traffic and with a bit of a boost up, its much more drivable Or go buy a auto R31 and use that as your daily, and enjoy 8000rpm of RB20 on the weekends
-
Whats your base timing? Maybe thats been wound back as a safe guard for running shit fuel. You'd loose a heap of power if it wsa running less base timing than it should. Whats your intercooler like? Maybe check for leaks in cooler pipework, leaking BOV etc. It all helps!
-
Two things to do, as mine used to idle high Check the vacum line going to the rear fuel pressure reg. They often are not connected on R32's because they are so hard to see. If thats connected, then there is a idle adjustment screw on the plenum, have a play with this and all should be fixed Thats all I did, mine idles at 700rpm no worries

Who Rebuilds Suspension In Vic

send them to www.shockreco.com.au -
I'd say that the RB20 would make a little less power than the SR20, if using a S15 turbo SR20 has much better head flow, higher comp ratio RB20 'could' rev more, but not with that turbo, as its very similar to my 2510 and that runs out at 6500rpm. After that it feels flat. I'd chalk up a win for the SR20

You should know the answer to that one mate!

My old Kenwood head unit hated being tilted back any more than about 10* in my old car. If it was flat, it wouldn't skip....

The main beneift, as some have mentioned is CAMS membership. If this is why you want to start a club, then I'd suggest joining V-Max or speaking to the Sporting Car Club and going down that route. if you want to enter Autosalon and go to car shows etc, maybe a club is for you If starting SAU-SA on the basis of obtaining a CAMS membership is the main reason allot of you are thinking of doing this, I'd think twice. The other thing to think about is the image of what the club will be. Without sounding too blunt, as a member of a club, your behaviour on the roads will be reflected upon all its members. If you are a caught doing stupid shit, everyone in that club will be bundled into that image, from the cops view anyway. Look a NS, there image, in the cops eyes anyway, is that of a hoon club. You only have to look at the number of defects there members have got to see that. Same with that commonwhore club that was on the front page of the paper SVD avoided allot of attention, mainly due to its members being a bit older, and those who did break rules, generally did so on other car club cruises. There where younger members, myself included, but at the time I was a member, these cars where quite expensive, so quite a few younger drivers where unable to afford such cars. As we all know, the average price has come down by over 50% since some of us have had our cars, allowing them to be affordable as first cars. To be perfectly honest, a club with younger members, especially p-platers, is going to attract allot of attention. I know most people who frequent here, thats the last thing they want. I guess thats whats made SAU SA what it is today really, the fact that there are no stickers, no attention, just a bunch of like-minded car enthusiasts who enjoy talking cars and stumbling along to the annual/once in a while dyno day, cruise or BBQ Form a club and this will be gone, and with it allot of people who enjoy it now for what it is, without all the shit that comes with being part of a car club Just my opinions really Chris
-
I think you'll find if the club side of things happens, it will be the beginning of the end....... I have been envolved in a few cars clubs, and to be honest, I got tired of them really quickly The best thing i found about the clubs was catching up with friends, and meeting new people, the rest got boring really quick and it always falls back onto the same people to organize things etc The reason I like SAU is you can show up to a dyno day etc and no one gives a rats ass if you have paid your fee's or what events you have/haven't attended Just my 2c, but I'd put money on the fact that starting a club will be the end of it all
