The plan is for me anyway is to go halves with a mate who has a R33 with a PFC, but not sure if the software will work on both yet., so we can both use the data logging at drags and track days etc I am going to pop around to Tilbrooks over here, as they have the GTR and GTS software, if it works, then I will look at getting it. For someone who has no idea about tuning, the software is pretty expensive, as you cannot make full use of it If I had my own dyno and AFR meter, sure, it would be worth it. Still tossing up who to tune it, Tilbrooks with the laptop software (if it works) or Boostworx via the hand controller......... What does everyone reckon?

R32 GTS (RB20 DET) Reliability??
Chris32 replied to benl1981's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I have had mine for three and a bit years, the only thing I have had to replace mechanically was the turbo and the clutch. My diff is gettting a little knackerd now, but I guess its just wear and tear. Castor rods also needed replacing, as did the suspension and brake discs and pads Mine has travelled close to 83,000km since I have had it (got it at 53,000, now 136,000. The best bit is that 40,000km have been done making 200rwkw, so its been very reliable I reckon. I do a oil change with either Motul or Mobil 1 every 4-5000 as well, and keep everything topped up The gearboxes are a weak link if drifting or dragging regularly, or if using R compound semi slicks, but they are as tough as most gearboxes going around, its just that the R33 GTS25T box is tougher again, so it makes the 32 box look a little weak. The upside to this is a decent 32 box should cost less than half of a decent 33 box if it ever does break Most parts are cheap and plentiful too Budget for a timing belt, and all fluids and brake pads to be changed I would say if you import a 89 model Chris -
What aftermarket turbo are you running on your RB20DET

what sort of power is it making? Do you have a dyno sheet for comparision? Chris -

yeah, it is a tad lean, but all will be fixed soon with bigger injectors and 1.2 bar boost, should be much quicker then Hopefully with more fuel and more timing through the mid-range, it will hide a bot of the lag. I think RB's like more fuel and timing in the midrange to get some of the response back from the small capacity I changed gears pretty fast, being my first run at the drags i didn't want to break anything. Traction off the line was the biggest issue, could not get any grip and when it did, it would axle tramp quite bad. -

yeah, its a good comparison. Mine was the highest total power - 197rwkw, the other two were a bit below that, but not much. The differance on the road is quite alot ( 3rd and 4th gear standing starts), as they have so much more average power. On the track (1/4) they where both around half a second quicker. MPH were reasonably similar give or take a MPH. I would say, with better driving, my car would have been pretty equal to the R33's, my best time was 14.03 at 104.9mph (2.45 60ft) and the R33's where running mid 13'5 with 2.1 - 2.2 60ft times Both cars had similar mods to mine, FMIC, exhaust+dump, and 14psi boost. One car was running a Microtech, the other a PFC, mine is a stock chipped ecu. after driving my car, which is quite laggy, driving one of the R33's seemed like it was almost NA type power, no lag really, but dies a little up top. I think also my tune is quite lean and not too advanced in the timing, while the R33's were run a tad richer, and probably with a bit more timing Chris -
no probs, I have had it a while, just taking up space in the shed don't mind swapping it with anything you have to suit my car if that helps Chris

Chris32 replied to VLRB20DET's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Its strange, as I always thought it had pretty good response, until reading a few things on this thread. It is MUCH laggier than the stock turbo PFC arrived yesterday, so all I need now is one of those GTR resistor things, and get the inkectors in and tuned and we will see what it makes. Putting a S/S exhaust manifold on as well, so hopefully pick up a few KW's there. GTR cams are waiting to go on as well, but I want to see the differance injectors and the manifold make first Here's a dyno chart in shootout mode, on the day it made 197rwkw. The two other cars are RB25's for comparison Chris -

Hmmm, this thread is interesting I have always thought my turbo was a HKS GT2510. Due to the CHRA tag being un-helpful (no numbers that meant much) I have always taken the sellers (JMS) and the installers ( Tilbrooks ) word for it. Also has a HKS 1bar acuator (although it only gets it to 0.9bar ) and also has a cast HKS dump pipe It bolts on, and is definatley a HKS 25 series from the housings etc, but looking a MM2deaths post, how you say full boost is at 3500rpm, I am now thinking differant Mine makes 200rwkw at 0.9 bar, and full boost is from about 4500-4800rpm and pulls really well from there to the rev limit at 8200 rpm (re-mapped chip) Any idea's? I am now thinking 2530 or 2535 perhaps? Chris -

rebuilding coilovers - HELP
Chris32 replied to Chris32's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Well, after much stuffing about locally, I am sending mine up to the guys in QLD. The workshop, which will remain un-named (PM me if you want to know SA guys) had them for 5 weeks, and I rang them today, and they said it would be another 7 weeks. Totally un-acceptable Rang the guys in QLD www.shockreco.com and they reckon they could turn in around in under a week - needless to say, once I have picked them up they are heading up to them Will keep everyone informed, Chris -

Clint, so your sure a S13 diff will bolt in no probs? Reason I ask, I can get a Nismo 2 way of a S13, with 5 bolt half shafts for a reasonable price. If you can confirm, I will most likely go down this route P.S - haven't forgot about the carton I owe you, you gonna be home tomorrow night after about 7? Cheers, Chris
