  1. its a normal stocking - just not stretched heaps so it looks quite thick once it has something inside I kept the stainless wool pretty much in one piece, just pulled it apart a little and shaped it to suit, seemed to fit well
  2. yeah, very good point A good tune is also nessacary
  3. :werd:
  4. Mine smelt alot, mainly due to where it was positioned, the smell would end up in the cabin I'd look at making a sealed system, then if your are not happy with that, vent it to amtmsophere
  5. like any car it comes down to - revs and compression If it was assembled with the best forged internals ets and at close to stock compression (around 8.5-1) there is no reason the car cannot live for many many kms on the other hand, if it was driven strictly as a drag or race car with that power, it would need rebuilding more regularly a fire that burns twice a hot only lasts half as long
  6. yeah, it can then be blocked off, what type of motor do you have? atmo venting catch cans are illegal, and smell alot, for a race car I'd say they are fine, but for a road car I'd suggest a re-circulating setup
  7. I think, as Cheeky's instance show, they can defect you for anything they want, legal or illegal, just depends on how the cop feels on the day Its a total joke
  8. PCV = positive crankcase ventilation The PCV valve operates via the vacum load on your car. When your car is off boost or in negative vacum, the PCV valve is sucked open, drawing the gases from the motor into the inlet. When under boost, it gets foreced shut by the positive pressure, and the gas is sucked into your inlet system, usually just before the turbo. Its then pumped into your intercooler, through your inlet and then into your motor. This leads to filthy intercoolers and can casue detonation By cleaning these gases (via catch can arrangment) before they get sucked into the inlet system, it gets rid of most of the crap that you don't want in your inlet air, which can only be a good thing Chris
  9. What servo is that? I drive past a R33 sometimes at Mobil on Lower Nth East rd, is that you?? Cheeky - good to hear that you are taking a firm stance on this, its about time someone does, just a shame it takes such a stupid act from a cop who has no idea what he is talking about to make it happen Chris
  10. yeah, but make sure you take your own oil, as they use semi-synthetic unless you specify a type of oil to be used
  11. is that becasue you are a cop or know someone who is? I think it would take a great effort to educate all of the cops about what is and isn't legal - only problem is they couldn't teach them anything, becasue they always seem to make up the rules as they go along. sorry to hear Erica, it beyond a joke now, import ownership is getting ridiclulous. Whats the point of owning such a car when the enjoyment of owning one is far outweighed by the fear of some low life fcucking cop on a power trip pulling you over - its total bullshit
  12. yeah, it works a treat! Best thing I reckon is it gets rid of the majority of oil vapour, and doesn't have that catch can smell. and it totally legal Chris
  13. Yeah, it came up alright I tried running mine with the PCV valve blocked, and running the two fittings of the rocker cover into the can with a filter. It worked ok, but my car would run like a pig, and I hated the smell of the catch can vapour you'd get every now and then At least with keeping it all sealed there is no smell, its totally legal and works very well Chris
  14. Agree with Maxx I'd save the cash and do the oil etc yourself, and leave the bigger and more PITA stuff for those mentioned above
  15. been having a problem every now and then with my Profec A boost controller Every now and then the overtake boost button fails to work - this is essential as its needed for re-programming. It also drops back to stock boost every now and then, then returns to the set boost. Its very wierd, Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if mine if rooted and requires replacement? Chris
  16. I posted this on the original thread, but for those of you who never read it and have a Greddy catch can, here you go http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...9483#post859483 Turns the Greddy oil catch can from a useless empty tank to a working catch can that will filter any blow-by gasses Chris
  17. Well, all worked succesfully I removed it last night for inspection and to take a few photgraphs of it so you can all see how it works I have attached some pics as well of how it fits etc. After a bit over a week of driving, I can report that it seems to be doing its job very well. The internal stocking/scourer combo does catch the small amounts of blow-by very well, with the air coming out if the can clean of pretty well all the oily vapour. Its hard to see in the photo's but the stocking on the 'in' side of the can had small amounts of vapour on it, and the stocking on the 'out' side has none that I can see. The pics are as it came out of the car, and weren't cleaned or anything I'd say buy the look of things, replacing the stocking/scourer combo would be a once in every six months to a year job. I guess this will depend on how much your engine breathes, but you can use the level indicator on the side to tell how much oil is in there I have made up a template for the divider, I will try and scan it today and post it up. Here are some pics of what it looks like Regards, Chris
  18. Ok cool, would be cheaper than re-locating the trottle body anyhow And of much more benefit! Thanks heaps, Regards, Chris
  19. Cheers Sydneykid, I searched long and hard, and have read pretty well everything I can So is it worth using a 120degree bend, or jusy keeping it all stock? Sorry all about the change of topic, but its all relevent to our mods and something I was considering Regards, Chris
  20. Sydneykid - quick question, I want to reposition my throttle body at the front of my plenum, what are your thoughts on this? I am not doing it to see any power gain, just to get rid of some inlet piping and make it easier to adjust cams gears etc Chris
  21. Awesome, will be great to see the results Mine arne't to far away hopefully, I am doing exhaust manifold, injectors and new ecu at the same time, so I have a bit more saving to do!
