  1. I've had my R34 GTR for almost 3 years now. It's a pain to drive in peak hour traffic compared to the missus' auto runabout. But if I could only own 1 car, I know it would be the GTR. You'd be hard pressed to find such a practical car for the amount of performance you are getting in return. The Italian exotica that cost 10x as much to buy, service, maintain, repair also have 10x less boot space, rear legroom, rear window and blind spot visibility, resistance to keying/theft and yet have the same performance. I don't mind driving my car to shop, parking in the street, etc. I wouldn't do that if I owned a Ferrari. Thank god for easily accessible and modifiable japanese turbo cars.
  2. Definitely in. Usually looking forward to the GOR cruise every year. Was spewing I missed this one cuz of work.
  3. Cool, might get the 265/35/18s then. Same price as the 255s. The 275s are more expensive. Thanks for everyone's advice.
  4. Hmmm yeah but 265 or 275 on a 9" would be a bit bulgy wouldn't it? The ideal rim width for those would be 9.5" yeah?
  5. Hey guys, just wanted some advice. I have an '01 R34 GTR (non-vspec) running the standard 18 x 9.0" GTR rims on stock suspension and bodywork. At the moment they have 245/40/18s on them. I wanted to get Michelin Pilot PS2 - 255 ones (fit 9") but was wondering whether to go with 40 or 35 profile. The 35 would give better handling at the cost of ride quality I assume, but is also a smaller diameter tyre. Does that mean it would adversely affect acceleration and top speed (more revs needed for the same speed)? What do people recommend? Thanks.
  6. LOL no I posted a topic about this last year cuz I was getting so many questions about it. For some reason the original post is not there anymore. It's not my ride. I believe it's a car in Malaysia with a massive wide body kit made by Monster Garage. This is the second car I've seen the kit on. The videos of the original (grey one in my avatar pic) seem to have been taken down from youtube.

Damn... Nice. That Mine's R34 is so famous, especially after it went viral on the BM video on youtube and destroyed that Supra I have so much respect for that car, given that it is rather mild compared to other tuning houses' creations, yet still manages one of the quickest lap times. Goes to show that response, balance and excellent tuning > outright crazy HP on the track.
  8. So finally Hawthorn Tyrepower got back to me with a quote: For Michelin Pilot PS2 255/40/R18s, $481 per tyre = $1924 vs ordering off Tire-Rack: $1147 + $300 shipping + 100 fitment/balancing = $1550 AUD Looking at the Tire Rack site, it sounds like 255s are better suited than 245s for the standard 9.0" wide 34GTR rims as they have 9.0 vs 8.5" "measuring rim width". "The measuring rim width is the industry standardized rim width upon which the tire must be mounted in order to confirm it meets its dimensional targets. Because the width of the rim will influence the width of the tire, a standard rim width for every tire size is assigned and must be used. This standardized measuring rim width allows all of the tires produced around the world to meet the same dimensional standards and therefore, be equivalent with regards to their physical size. The measuring rim width is sometimes referred to as the tire's "design rim width." In terms of cheaper tyres like the Sumitomo, because shipping's the same price, it is more cost effective to get expensive tyres than cheaper ones for me, so I think I'll stick with PS2s.
  9. Well, the stag would be a second car for shopping/family/road trips/peak hour driving, so I actually prefer it to be auto. If I feel the need I still have the GTR for myself Only reason why I wanted that engine was for overtaking power. Nothing worse than being stuck behind a slow car on a country road cuz your car isn't powerful enough to overtake before the next oncoming car. That's why I decided against a 2nd hand Nissan Patrol or a new GWM X240.
  10. Awesome site!

He is there a GTR Z-Tune in GT5? Haven't been able to find much info on the net. The inclusion of that one car would make the RRP worthwhile.
  12. Thanks for all your replies, especially VQ25DET's very informative post. On spec, I think the better choice would be actually to go with the M35. I saw one with EIGHT airbags compared to two in the C34, plus it has cruise control. Those two things will win the better half over, and for me, it's quicker in stock form so that's another bonus. And a recurring theme is that everyone thinks they look way better in the flesh than in photos. I will look into it a bit more.... will need to save up for another few months to stretch the extra 3k for a decent one I think.
  13. LOL
  14. Hey thanks so much for your help. Do all S2 RS4's have Xenon lights? I would also like to be able to tow a trailer at times. Any one know if it is a pain to install tow bars on? What's the towing capacity and how well does it tow? 910trx brought up upgrading their C34 to the M35. Looking on carsales, it's only an extra 2-3k or so to upgrade from a S2 RS4 to a M35 RS4. I am wanting to keep it stock for insurance and cop purposes. How is the performance difference in stock form? The M35 does look a more modern car and am sure has better electronics, but to be honest I love the look of the WC34s better. Much appreciated. Sorry, just realised I should've posted this in the buyer's guide, but I can't delete/move the post.
  15. Hey guys I really need your advice. I am looking to buy a Stag because the GTR just isn't cutting it in the people and stuff moving stakes, and I heard the Stags have massive cargo capacity. I like going camping and to the slopes in winter as well, so I am looking for something AWD. Preferably auto so that I can take a rest in peak hour traffic. Do the rear seats fold down flat? Would the best Stag be a RS4? The engine and turbo in this - is it the same as that in the 34 GTT? I am looking at some '99 models for 10-12k. What's the standard output? Does it have cruise control? I would like to hear from RS4 owners - any major problems with mechanical/electronic stuff as it approaches 100,000 kms? I can't seem to find much info on the net regarding full specs. I would like to know how many airbags there are, whether it comes with any traction/stability control or ABS. One last thing - what's insurance like for unmodified versions? I am over 25 with a half-decent driving history. It will be parked on the street. Thanks for all your help guys. Much appreciated.
  16. Nice, so does this movie slot in between 2 and 3 chronology-wise?

The APEX book is awesome. It's 300 pages and details the history of the car and has a big section on improving driving skills (in-game and IRL). I couldn't find it anywhere else being sold separately so I had to buy the collector's edition (CE). The voucher you get in CE lets you d/l from PSN 5 chromeline cars: Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro Chrome Line Edition BMW M3 Coupe Chrome Line Edition Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640 Chrome Line Edition Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Coupe Chrome Line Edition Shelby Cobra 427 Chrome Line Edition They are nice, but if I had my time again, I would have waited until I REALLY needed them for special events before downloading them. When I remember back to previous GT games, my fondest memory was actually starting at the start with a MX-5 or some other cheap car and gradually modifying it bit by bit by the earnings I scrounged from each race that I barely won. At the same time I would take the licence exams, and through these and the beginner races, my skill and experience would gradually steadily develop with the capabilities of my car. It was this development that made it so addictive and challenging. You always wanted to get back to the game to tune your car and win some more cash to spend on it. You developed a close relationship with your car, because it was unique, it was your first car, and you had "grown up" with it. You always had a soft spot and a place in your garage, and heart, for that first car, no matter how awesome you became later. With GT5 I made the mistake of downloading the chromeline cars at the start, and it totally spoils the whole game when you go through beginner classes destroying Civics with your LP640. It's like going through Call of Duty with god mode from the start. What makes a game good is challenge and character/car development, along with your own development - and these are missing when you use the chromeline cars at the start, especially as you can't modify them. Sure, I could fake crapness and ignore the 5 awesome cars in my garage and use a Fiat Punto, but they're always too much of a distraction. It totally cheapens the whole experience, and demotivates you from playing the game. I think the designers overlooked this fact when they introduced this feature.
  18. Wow didn't know I can get Pilot PS2's for $1500 locally. The couple of random places I asked quoted at least 2k. Some other guys recommended Hawthorn Tyre Power in Melbourne Will give them a call tomorrow.
  19. Thanks will look into it.
  20. Sorry if I came across as picky. Had a look through the Tire Rack site and Tire Reviews.co.uk, and they are both great sites. Think I want these: Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's Tyre Comparison Chart They kill everything else on Tire Rack for dry weather handling/ traction/ stability. I currently run Michelin Pilot Precedas (which I am very happy with), and these are a step up. And trawling the net ppl have gone up to 40,000 kms on them before wearing out. I know tread wear is dependent on many variables, but I would be happy to get 15k out of them with 95% daily driving and 5% spirited street driving (I only do about 7k per year). Price-wise, with the strong aussie dollar, ordering off Tire Rack plus shipping to Oz will set me back approx $1450 total, plus fitting, so I am very happy with that. Tire Rack PS2s What do you guys think? Thanks for your help.
  21. Cool, sound good. Tried to find out more info on them but on the Remsa website they don't seem to go into detail differentiating different brake pads, and couldn't find my car on their site either. Do they just make 1 level of brake pad? Thanks.
  22. Cheers, thanks for the replies. Thinking of going the Volk TE37 Bronze 19 X 10.5" + 12, with Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's in 285 or 295/35R19 . Smallest offset I could find for that rim on NENGUN. Where else is good to buy TE37s locally? I tried Importmonster's aussie store but they only have the rim in massive offsets. Would love to see pics plz. Let me know if any rubbing - cuz if there is I may have to go down a size/width. Stock suspension? Thanks.

Just bought the collector's edition today from JB hi-fi highpoint who had 20% of games/dvds today (due to some VIP event). $103. Thought I'd spring the extra $30 or so for the Apex book, which I couldn't find being sold anywhere separately.
  24. Hi, did a search but not much came up. What are the widest rims I can run on an R34 GTR? Also, where is the best place to get guards rolled/pumped to accommodate fat tyres? What is the legality of this and really fat rims in Victoria? Lastly, do I need to use identical rims on all 4 corners to not confuse ATTESA or can I stagger them? Thanks.
  25. Sorry forgot to mention its 300 awkw. Cool, will look into this.
