Disconnecting Power Fc Hand Controller
Phatboy replied to Phatboy's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Awesome. Just wanted to make sure it wouldn't reset the PFC tune or something. -
Hi just wondering if you wanted to safely and easily disconnect the just the hand controller but not the PFC itself, how would you do this? Cheers.

Thanks for the info stolen_s15 It might be easier if I just post up the car's mods and if anyone can tell me which is defectable, apart from boost controller. Couldn't find any info on whether other items eg., turbo timer defectable. HKS split dumps HKS front pipe HKS hipower catback (legal noise I think) HKS adj cam gears (IN/EX) HKS timing belt with Trust clear cover Apexi pod air filter Turbo timer Nismo twin plate clutch (super coppermix) Cheers. Much appreciated.

Just want to know - has anyone's claim been denied/reduced due to mild "illegal" mods eg., boost controller, turbo timer? Do people actually tell their insurance companies about illegal items? Isn't that just opening the door to denying your claim and making your $2000/year insurance useless? If you had a hidden boost controller, would they go so far as to comb through your car? Thanks.
-
I just don't understand how insurance companies can knowingly cover your mods in your policy, but come claim time, suddenly deny you the claim as one of those covered mods is illegal.
-
Perhaps I should've got my own insurance earlier, but it would've cost me about $7000 in extra premium from when I got my P's to now. I am happy to go with JCI for now.

Can someone please tell me, in Victoria, are boost controllers like Apexi Power FC and turbo timers defectable items?

Boost Gauge Not Detecting Boost On R34 Gtr
Phatboy replied to Phatboy's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Thanks for the advice Rkay77! Now I know that I'm not the only one! Did you get the Nismo MFD + sensors in the end? I would get it if it fixed up the boost gauge. Do you know how much it would cost + install? -
Cam Gears Installed The Wrong Way?!

They were HKS cam gears. So guess that means they are muppets?!? -
Boost Gauge Not Detecting Boost On R34 Gtr
Phatboy replied to Phatboy's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Oh man, this is getting way too technical for me. Not sure how the PRF is tuned. Someone just told me recalibrate the sensor through the MFD. Will try that first. Cheers. -
Unfortunately Dezz, even after I told them I would be part of SAU, Shannons said no. Oh well, JCI for me then. Just hope they insure all mods regardless of legality like Shannons do.... I want to keep my Power FC + Turbo Timer!
-
Thanks guys. Guess it's the calibrate throttle sensor thingy. Will try it.

The cam gears are HKS. Good info re the Chinese gears. Must be the curse of the ENGRISH again!

Godammit, Shannon's won't insure me. Say I have to be more of a car enthusiast??! wtf? Like taking my car to car shows, having CAMS licence, being part of more car clubs. I thought insurance companies didn't want these things. Maybe it has to do with the fact that 2001 GTR I'm buying will be my first decent sportscar. JCI was cool, $1500 premium, $500 excess, so I will go with them. I notice that they require an Australian standard immobiliser to be fitted for theft cover. The car has an alarm and immobiliser, but I'm not sure what kind, and the paperwork has long since been lost. How do I prove that it meets the Australian standard? Also, has anyone had any problems with JCI reducing/deny their payout due to illegal mods like having a PowerFC or turbo timer? I asked JCI and they said they could reduce payouts, even if the mod is listed in the policy, because they have that clause saying if any of the mods are illegal then they can do it.

Sorry, usually when I ask multiple questions people just answer one, and I end up having to ask again anyway.

Boost Gauge Not Detecting Boost On R34 Gtr

Thanks, that what I thought. Any idea how much it would cost to repair? No-one seems to know. -
Cam Gears Installed The Wrong Way?!
Phatboy replied to Phatboy's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
No, the previous owner took it to a shop in SA, and now the car lives in Vic, and the mechanic knows GTRs very well. I wasn't sure if you'd need to retune a PFC/ecu if cam gearing is changed, but he seemed to think so. Thanks for the advice. -
Hi guys, also on the same GTR, at the mechanical inspection the guy said that the cam gears had been installed the wrong way. ie., retarding the intake and advancing the exit instead of the other way around. He could see this as it had a clear cam cover. Do you think this could have damaged the engine at all? The guy who owns it has been driving it around like this for a year without noticing anything untoward. The GTR does feel a bit lazy though. The mechanic said that if he adjusted the gears the correct way, I should expect to come onto boost earlier, making it more responsive. Will this need a whole new Power FC tune again as he says? He is quoting me $800 for the whole job. Cheers. Much appreciated.

Hi guys, just wanted to get your opinion on something. I was planning to buy a specific R34 GTR, but there is a problem with the boost gauge on the Multi-Function Display not sensing any boost occasionally eg., 1/10 times. If I restart the car it usually works again. The Power FC usually has no probs detecting boost. It is only running 1.0-1.1 bar. Other mods include HKS dump pipe, adj cam gears, catback. Does anyone know what is going on? Something wrong with the sensor or its connection? How much do you think it will cost to repair? Cheers. Any help much appreciated as always.

Thanks for that ylwgtr2. Very useful free pre-vehicle check check. The compliance plate is magenta as it is a Used Import, I think. Green = low volume import, on most skylines.

Thanks that's good advice. Dave1200, do you know where I can find this engine ID tag in the engine bay of a 2001 Series 2 R34 GTR non-vspec??? I didn't see any other tags apart from the VIN plate and compliance plate, but I wasn't looking for any, so I might have missed it. Cheers.

Saw [bARUT] 4-door R34 Skyline sedan parked on St Kilda Rd around 1300 today.
