Cvt8 Or Regular 5 Speed Auto?
tienscissors replied to dacoyne's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
How much faster are series 2 5-speed compared to series 1 GT8 for 350GTs? How much more fuel efficient are the CVT over 5-speed? I'm only getting 500kms out of 75 Litres on my GT-8, but I am fairly heavy footed and I live in adelaide so there's no highways here. Are 300GTs much slower than 350GTs? I think the power figures betweent the two aren't much different (10-15kw), not sure about torque. I don't think there's much difference between performance + efficiency between the 2 gearbox types and its down to personal preference. I can tell you that the GT8 is super smooth, and the acceleration does feel a bit slow. Don't get fooled by the 8-speed paddle shift gimmick, they change gears automatically when you redline and acceleration is not much faster than when you're in auto-CVT mode. However, if you like driving on winding roads or in the hills like me, the paddle-shifts are superb and good fun cos you can always keep the car in the sweet spot of the rev band. Gear changes are instant! I think if you get a GT8, try to look for one with lower KMs to lower the risk of gearbox problems or maybe get one from dealer with warranty? I think within the next 2-3 years these cars will be fairly common so if you make it for that long than you're probably safe. Price range difference is probably due to number of extra options you have and the KMs on the car. I think some people set a higher price hoping some buyer that doesn't realise how cheap these cars can be aquired for will buy it. -
How does the key + immobiliser work? buttons on the key are just keyless entry and not for activating/deactivating immobiliser right? If that's the case can you just cut a new key and use it? I need a spare key too but don't really care if its got the buttons or not.

Moving Nav Dvd Unit
tienscissors replied to Chris Rogers's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
I bought this unit from the US. http://www.gooddeals18.com/c=T4pIjUKR7HKU5...oduct/PLD175TBT -Bluetooth Handsfree -DVD - I've only put in a burnt DVD so far and it works. Divx works too. -MP3 -Radio - ALL aus channels -USB + SD Card Slot -NTSC TV Tuner - doesnt pick up Aussie channels I'm one of the guys that gave chris one of the "should have listened replies" cos I complained to him that the TV Tuner didn't work. I really wanted the TV. Thinking about getting the Nesavision one just for that.. But I'll stick with this one for now. Only cost me $AUD 150 shipped. -
Anyone Know What This Does?
tienscissors replied to tienscissors's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Ahhh... That explains the brown strips on the bottom of the windscreens. Probably also explains why I got a snow button too! -
Hi All Saw a button next to the boot release and VDC off. Figure its something related to windscreen. Anyone know what it is?

Moving Nav Dvd Unit
tienscissors replied to Chris Rogers's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Under the seat had the air-con vent thing, and it seems a little cramped under there. Was afraid it might get in the way if seat was moved back and forth. Plus people with dirty feet will kick it all the time. I secured it with velco strips so I could move it anywhere if i don't like the position right now. Forgot to thank you Chris for all the advice you've given me. You're a gem for V35 owners! -
Moving Nav Dvd Unit

Has anyone here attempted doing the same thing as Chris? Cos I have. Its more like 20 hours of patience for average joes like us. But all worth it. Put in a band expander while it was at it. Some pics of my efforts. -
It took me about 3 hours to take all 4 off. With the residue and other sticky stuff like glue from stickers, I use nail polish remover to get it off. Borrow some off your mum/girlfriend/sister and give it a try. Its also good for taking dry chewing gum off your jeans!

Heated Seats On All V35's?
tienscissors replied to WazR32GTSt's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Just noticed my car has rectangular marks where the heated seats buttons should be. Seems to be a lump there on both sides of the console. Does anyone else have this? Looks kinda dodgey. -
Just noticed those weather shields on your windows. Take them off!!!!! I took them off and it made my car look way better. Less old man/woman ish. I'm a smoker and i know how convenient they are in the rain, but damn... they look so bad! Took my stupid spoiler off too, left 5 holes on the boot. Got some rubber plugs in them but i think it still looks better. Just my opinion though.

Pretty sure chrome exterior comes standard. Nice ride NISMO, so clean and sleek. Thinking of putting that zymol stuff on my car. Also thinking of the permagard ($$$$) so I don't ever have to do it again! Where did you get the Z suspension from? I'm looking for lowered suspension that doesn't sacrifice ride comfort too much and from what you described, its the most ideal one.

Hi All Anyone here with a GT8 finding it really slow to take off? or is it just my bad driving skills? I tend to think my driving skills aren't too bad. I had a few runs with my friend's 05 WRX (with exhaust and filter only) and it totally killed me at the start.... I'm talking about 4 - 5 car lengths in the first 100 to 150m(in manual mode with VDC off). After that its really hard to catch up. I have driven his car before, I know that I would beat him on a rolling start (third gear on WRX is shit!!!!), but that's besides the point. He will still beat me on a quarter mile run. Does anyone on this forum know the best launch technique on their GT8? I think that the first gear is really big (goes to 80KM/H) and this is the downfall. After the defeat, I'm hesitant to challange any car with a manual transmission. And does anyone here hate that it changes gear automatically when you hit the redline? I'm really thinking of a manual conversion after I blow this gearbox.

Anyone Got Rid Of The Reverse Beeping?
tienscissors replied to tienscissors's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
I'm quite sure the beeping speaker is in the steering column. Same beeper used for when you leave your headlights on and when you leave the key in the ignition and open the door. I'm going to try to open it up tonight and cut the wire. Hope I don't set off the air-bags or anything. -
Heated Seats On All V35's?

Heated Seats On All V35's?
tienscissors replied to WazR32GTSt's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Yes its a sedan, and yes they were hidden underneath the black air-con vent that goes to the rear. Had to rip off some tape and pull the wires out, I could feel the plugs though so I knew they were there. Fingers crossed that this will work. I was so disappointed that my car didn't come with heated seats. -

Homelink Installed
tienscissors replied to WazR32GTSt's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Hey Warren I'm very interested in the mirror but for the garage door opener, auto-dimmer is a bonus. Have you been able to program it yet? I've opened my garage roller door button and it has little switches you switch up and down, and you do the same on the controller. I've also checked the www.homelink.com website but the instructions to program it doesn't make sense. I really want to buy this as there is no convenient, easily accessable place i can put the controller in my car. Cheers Tien -
Hi All Does anyone out there know if i can put the V35 Sedan series 2 rear lights onto a series 1? I like them much more than the series 1 lights and it has the 2 round light that skylines have had forever. Thanks in advance.
