Know that feeling mate, your heart just sinks.
I'm glad to hear you have the car in one piece. My suggestions are next time you are worried about your car, take one of the ECCS relays out (big blue or green ones in engine bay), and put in your pocket when you leave the car. Even if they manage to break in, hotwire the car, bypass the immobiliser, and try and start the car, it simply will not run.
Having kill switches is simply no longer enough. Thieves are smart, and can bypass switches by cutting wires and splicing looms. However how many thieves do you know carry Nissan 4 pin relays in thier pockets???
Added with a decent clublock, I garantee your car will not leave the driveway without someone noticing!
I have worked in the car security scene for a while now, and I know some of the tricks of the trade, and the things thieves will go to to steal a car, or gain a few bux, is insane! Take sydney car thieves. They walk past parked cars in the dark with a portable xray scanner, scanning for laptops and ipods under seats and in centre consoles. They will mark the cars with chalk, and a second thief will go past behind them, smash the windows or unlock doors, and simply load up on electrical goods and valuables. I've also heard of thieves in Melbourne using magnets to unlocks doors on Nissan X-trails, and several other ridiculous methods.
Good luck repairing the ignition barrel, and getting the car cleaned up. PS: check the amount of play in your glass on your drivers door, and your interior light funtions.
