well just recently I was at a shop with a few cars that had CF and FG bonnets and they all looked like crap...none was fitting properly - seemed like they bent out of shape for some reason (too much time in the sun or somefin?) Anyway, I just don't like the idea of a cf or fibreglass bonnet .. plus they're illegal. Why would a slightly modified stock bonnet be illegal ??? Not a big fan of the z-tune either .. seems like everyone's getting one nowadays anyway. I'm after a more subtle one like the one pictured in the opening post. Any panel beaters who could give me a rough estimate?
-
Well I'm just saying what I've been quoted to tune a pfc on an R34 GTT. CRD quoted $650 and Bel Garage quoted $880. I've also read threads where some famous tuner was coming down from Brissy to tune cars for a bunch of people and was doing it for "only" $1000.
-
I was considering getting a new O2 sensor installed to help with fuel economy when cruising but will most likely get a PFC installed and tuned soon. Does a tuned PFC take care of everything, making the O2 sensor redundant or would an O2 sensor still be a good idea? I'm not even sure my existing O2 is buggered (I'm getting crap econmy though, 350kms/50l R34 GTT with stage 1 mods) but I don't wanna waste $200 if I don't have to Cheers
-
from what I've been quoted, a full PFC tune costs between $650 and $1000 depending on shop and how many mods you have.
-
yeah but my one doesn't come with a hand controller, which i think costs about $300-400 on its own (in australia anyway) But still ..$270 for a 2nd hand PFC is a major score

I was thinking more along the lines of cutting the middle welding on the vent like in the photo above from metal ..so that it all remains metail. But if fibre glass can be made to look good and be resprayed than that's probably not a bad idea either as it's probably a lot cheaper.

I've been thinking of getting an aftermarket bonnet but seeing as how CF bonnets are illegal and cost approx. $1000 I was thinking ..isn't it possible to modify the stock factory metal bonnet ? I mean surely panel beaters, welders (ie people working with metals) can modify something as simple as a bonnet? I have an r34 gtt and would like to mod my bonnet to look like this (mins those silver rings..wtf are those anyway?) http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/3361/img5083mv8.jpg How much do you reckon modding the stock bonnet to look like the one above would cost? Painting is about $400-500 only ..

pfc is probably the best one as there's a lot of people that can tune them ..but the cost is rather high (both chip and the tune itself). However you can score them on japanese auctions for a good price if you're lucky .. I just got an R34 GTT PFC off japanese auctions for $160 ($270 or so after all import costs) using importmonster.com.au so saved $7-800 right there ;D

I'm pretty sure that's the do-luck front bar on the white 34 with the black cf bonnet.

Would be impossible to prove if those were even his skid marks .. I reckon he just tried to swerve to the left to avoid you as you were getting out infront of him. So yeah he was probably speeding and you weren't paying enough attention .. Either way, I reckon you'd be at fault no matter what as it's your responsibility to give way. I'm sure the other driver must have given a statement too by now, what'd he say? How did he fare ...anything broken? I'd assume even though he was in a van, a Skyline's way better protected against any sort of collisions than a van so he might not be doing as good as yourself.
-
geezus man ..looking at those pics I think you should consider yourself VERY lucky to be alive. I reckon you should just move on with life instead of tying to pinpoint who was at fault. Sucks about the car, but it's just a car ..you'll get another one.
-
I know I'm lucky .. should have lost the license and it would have cost me more money too. What shits me is now I have a record and next time I get pulled over for anything minor I won't get off with a warning. Farrrrrrk.
-
Ok that is most definately THE hottest GTT I've seen on SAU. Congrats mate! I enviez ya. That's the top secret bar hey .. what about that bonnet? I've been toying with the idea of getting a bonnet but don't wanna be a defect-magnet witha CF bonnet (they're illegal aren't they??)

So I got a Skyline the other week and I just got an ebc installed the other day and I thought it's playing up ... not holding boost. Someone suggested I need to put the engine under load to get boost, going up hill for example. So I'm like hmm .. there's a hill just down the road from here.. pretty steep and long. It's 2am, what are the odds there are cops patrolling out there ? So I gun it up the hill to check the boost .. and see 8psi or so and a grin appears on my face as this was about 3/4 throttle only. I'm thinking, yeah it's fine I've just been worrying about nothing. So I slow down at the top and then take the next left. The whole time not noticing I'm being followed. 10 seconds later, lights are flashing behind me and I get pulled over ... "Good evening mate. Do you have any idea how fast you went up that hill?" I'm like, hmm shit .. 70? 80? Nope, 105. And I'm like ooooohhh shit. There goes my license. So he asks me to get out of the car and look at the radar reading and yep there it is, 105. And I'm like, "okay I'm not gonna bullshit you guys, I just got this car and it's been playing up so I thought I'd try taking it up hill a bit faster ..but I thought I was doing 70-80 tops <most sincere look I could manage> To which the officer sitting inside replies, there's a motorway entrance just near here (and I'm thinking to myself, it's nowhere near here..it's a 15 min ride, but decide it may be better if I make no comments at this stage) They send me back to the car and 10 mins later or so one of them comes back .. with some good news, situation considering. They've decided to write it up as a 15km over the limit fine approx. $230 and 3 points instead of 4 points, $609 and 3 months no license ... plus I get the complimentary "Ignoring no right-turn sign" $180 fine and 2 points. So all up, my retarded little idea of doing a boost check in a suburban 60 zone (even though it's 2am, 3 lanes each way and no cars in sight) cost me approx. $400 and 5 points. Could have been worse, a LOT worse. I guess it just goes to show that not all cops are arseholes. Having no prior driving offences and having not lost a point in 6-7 years helped too I'm sure. So yeah, if you're up for a 400m hill climb at only $1/m and need the perfect location, let me know - I know a good'un! Thanks, I just thought I'd share that with the class.

Is This Right? Boost Controller Installed..

the figures above are in PSI (x10) ie. psi of 5 would show up as 50. -
Is This Right? Boost Controller Installed..
Wacky Dee replied to Wacky Dee's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
mine reads about -80 at idle when the engine is completely cold ..but once warmed up its always -99 at idle. Good to hear that's a good sign But I'm pretty sure something's not right .. most threads I've read about EBCs, people are saying their ebc holds the boost at precisely the preset boost once they get boost which is usually after 3000rpm. Just today I read a comment by someone suggesting a lower psi to someone for around town otherwise his fuel eco would be shit as his boost would always be 10psi... I don't think I've come close to 10psi which is what my ebc is set to. I've tried gunning it on the motorway and I get very quickly fluctuating values mostly in the negatives. Gonna have to put it on a dyno as it's friggin hard to read the lcd whilst driving on the road (and dangerous) The thing that worries me the most is the wastegate actuator getting stuck on open position .. it's happened once when the car was on a dyno. Mechanic said it's probably due to the aftermarket dump pipe sitting 100% correct so the flap gets stuck open. Now whenever something doesn't seem right I keep thinking it's that bloody actuator stuck open again, esp. with being unable to get the '100' (10psi) with the ebc whilst driving on the road. Any way of making sure the actuator never gets stuck in the open position? I don't wanna take it back to the place that installed my exhaust as they might find the actuator isn't stuck open and go '"everything seems fine, that'll be $100 for wasting our time" and make me look like a douchebag. -
ok reading this makes me almost certain there's something wrong with my ebc ... it's set to 10psi but the lcd display shows number ranging from -99 up to low positives (it should go to 100 as that's 10psi on this ebc) , going up and down quickly (NEVER settles even for a second) Weird thing is when they installed it at the shop and put the car on the dyno ..according to their graphs it was holding 10psi. Ah wtf. this is getting ridiculus ...the more money I spend the more problems creep up that I have no friggin idea how to fix.

hmm well .. according to the greddy ebc display it RARELY even goes into positive values and I haven't seen the values steady once - it just keep going up and down and it's usually in negative values (ie. under 0 eg. -45) Could it be that 1) the ebc lcd display is just dodgey or not connected properly ie. not displaying the boost pressure properly? 2) my wastegate actuator is bloody stuck open again and I'm not making any meaningful boost? I tried gunning it just before when there was no traffic around ..was doing 4000-4500 rpm in 2nd and 3rd gear and the lcd display was showing value ranging from like -30 to +15 but quickly going up and down .. eg. as soon as it reaches positive numbers, if I shift it drops down into negative numbers again. I am so confused ... don't know if it's just a display issue or if my boost is not working properly ie. actuator stuck open again -
Smoked Or Clear Indicator On A Black R34?
Wacky Dee replied to Wacky Dee's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
The clear fronts and sides look pretty bloody good in combination with the silver stock rims as seen above, imo ^^ But yeah ..I'm going smoked since my rims aren't silver. -
Smoked Or Clear Indicator On A Black R34?
Wacky Dee replied to Wacky Dee's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
Did you actually read my post just above yours? I actually considered nengun until i read all the horror stories about their lousy service and ultra slow delivery, so they're out of the question. I might be getting it from performance-wise after all ..just got a reply to my email and a helluva price. -
As per title .. I want to disable the passenger door unlock switch on the driver's side as I've read that thieves can easily unlock the passenger door using this switch and a good ol' coathanger through the driver's side window... Any ideas how to disable the switch completely ?

Smoked Or Clear Indicator On A Black R34?
Wacky Dee replied to Wacky Dee's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
Thanks mate. Looks great. Although you do have lighter (stock) rims so the clear indicators are definately more suited. However with my dark rims I reckon smoked would look better. Now if only I can find them at a reasonable price somewhere hmm.. JJ is $300 for sides and front ... performance wise on ebay is a bit less but lots of negative comments and he hasn't answered my emails ina few days so bugger him. Nengun is out of question due to their reputation and slow delivery. Anyone else who stocks these babies ? cheers guys -

Wacky Dee replied to Wacky Dee's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I see .. so the EBC is not meant to hold boost at 10psi around town even if you were gunning it in 2nd/3rd gear - only when under CONSTANT load, ie. highway, hills etc? Think I need to get onto a dyno and test this ..that is if anyone would actually let me sit in the driver seat when on the dyno. -

no, EBC has an option to display boost pressure in PSI apparently but it displays it in x10 eg. 10psi should show as '100'. Can you please explain what you mean by load?
