  1. Tell em the price son!
  2. Oh, definitely. If they had pulled me up and said "We've had a spate of Skyline thefts in this area lately, we are just checking to make sure yours wasn't stolen" then that would have been perfectly fine. It was just the attitude of the cops and the alleged reason behind the pull-over that pissed me off. Z32 Airlines thanks for the info, it is greatly appreciated But I don't think I made it clear enough in all the waffle of my first post - I didn't actually get a ticket. But still I will keep your advice in mind if I do get an attempted ticket in future. Thanks again!
  3. Well, I would have, but I didn't get a ticket
  4. Famous was more than $300 cheaper for me than JCI. So if I was like you, I'd ring up JCI and politely tell them to "GFY" too.
  5. 13L/100km without any highway driving is pretty good.
  6. Hmm, maybe being pulled up for no reason is a sign that there's not enough crime being committed in your area.
  7. Holy crap, I thought I was the only one. It was the main reason why I sought out the '95 model - series 1 front bar and interior (mm.. velour), series 2 goodies (ECU, titanium boot badge, erm, that's about it)
  8. Maybe there was something dodgy with your application, because I got my quote on the spot.
  9. The main "fault" with the series 1 was the ECU, which tends to run way too rich when upping the boost. You can easily fix this with an S-AFC, and bring it up to the same power levels as the later ECU. The 95 series 1.5 uses the updated ECU and so doesn't have this problem. The only other minor fault I can think of is the dash surround and door handle surround is coated in this thin rubber type stuff, which tends to peel fairly easily. This was fixed with the series 2 (not 1.5). But that's really minor. These cars aren't like Commodores and Falcons which get released with a whole BUNCH of problems, and then they fix half of them with the series 2, and then change models and start off with a whole new bigger batch of problems. This is the reason why I think the VS series 2 Commodore is a less buggy car than a VT series 1.
  10. I can fully appreciate that it could have been much worse. Just getting a ticket even though I would have defeated the charge would be a total royal pain in the arse so I'm glad they didn't bother trying. Also they could have done something similar with defects. It's all legal, but there are people get busted with stock stuff FFS. Again, pain in the arse to get it cleared. My gf was being feisty, she could have convinced them to give me a ticket It would have been worth it if they did though. She was really starting to piss them off by saying stuff like there are distance limits between when you do an offence and when they can pull you over, and the cop started arguing saying that there isn't. I don't know who was right, but either way the cop was getting flustered and was put on the back foot.
  11. Nah it's cool, I was just being silly, hence the smilie. It does spool up slightly quicker. I reported something in the Roil thread which was very similar to what everyone was getting with Roil. No, it's far from necessary. I agree, good quality oils are all you need. But if this product gets a bit of extra power by way of reducing friction, it should be ok to use unless it's doing damage to your engine by turning into hydrochloric acid or the like. It also should in theory also slightly reduce the wear and extend your engine life rather than shorten it. The guy I got my Oil Extreme from has been using and selling it for over 5 years. I think that if it was ruining engines he would have been taken to court over it by now, or something. And he wouldn't still be using it himself or selling it if it was creating headaches for people (himself included).
  12. Yeah without a radar I think they need to follow you for longer than they followed me. Either way I wasn't speeding so it would have been impossible for them to get me for speeding Z32 Airlines yeah I think I might push my luck next time. Having an impeccable record which they will see when they radio my licence ahead will give me more leverage I think. I have heard many stories of people who get pulled over for similar things as mine (or LESS - ie they were driving completely normally) and they get done hard, simply because they've lost a few points and a judge would think that makes them an irresponsible hoon.
  13. Thanks for the permission
  14. Well it had to happen sooner or later. Coming home last night, turned right off Victoria Rd and onto the back streets to get to my house. Unknown to me, an unmarked cop car occupied by 2 female cops was in the oncoming traffic. They didn't like the speed at which I took the corner and so hung a left to follow me. I didn't cut them off or anything, they were miles up. But I like taking that corner pretty fast usually. Nothing dangerous at all, just moderately fast. Nowhere near losing traction, and not revving it or anything. They followed me and pulled me up several corners later about 10 metres before I got to my driveway, and asked to see my licence. They said I had been pulled up for speeding, and the manner in which I was driving. I said I was never speeding (it's very hard to do on the street I turned onto anyway, it's full of speed humps so why would you bother?) but said I had accelerated quickly up to the 50kph speed limit. So anyway, I never got a ticket, but I am kinda pissed off that they chose to pull me up at all. I think they couldn't get me for anything because they knew I wasn't really speeding or driving dangerously, they just wanted to see if they could hit me with a trumped up ticket. Since I haven't lost any points on my licence, they would have realised it'd be a waste of time to give me a ticket because I'd contest it and win. Anyway the point of this post is I don't think I handled the situation properly. I was very cooperative, didn't really question what they were doing other than to ask why I was being pulled up. But aside from that the bitches^h^h^h^h^h^h^h cops were pretty blunt and rude. If they felt that they could have given me a ticket and made it stick I've no doubt they would have done so. I handed over my licence etc and did everything asked without complaining. What I really want to do next time is discourage cops from pulling this sort of stunt again. It wastes everyone's time and only serves to give the cop/s in question a power trip, and lets them know they got away with it and they'll try it again. Anyone got any advice? Like what can I say to tell them they're being xunts and wasting everyone's time.
  15. Yeah I think most coolant is glycol with a some rust inhibitor. Unless the glycol itself is the rust inhibitor, I dunno. Nulon is meant to be a high mileage coolant, so it might last longer than some cheapass brands, but if you change it regularly anyway it shouldn't matter.
  16. Ok I just thought of something last night, and this is something not addressed by the Oil Extreme site. This is just about their motor oil, not the concentrate. Even though Oil Extreme oil is apparently purified more than synthetics, it is still has a mineral base. From everything I've read, synthetics have a higher breakdown temperature than mineral oils. So it's entirely possible that Oil Extreme oil is higher quality and will go longer without changing than most synthetics. However, since it's a mineral oil, it will break down at a lower temperature than a good synthetic (I assume so since the Oil Extreme site says nothing to contradict this). This shouldn't be much of a concern for a NA engine, but with our turbos running ultra hot, it's probably not a good idea to use a mineral oil no matter what quality it is. My mechanic changes his oil between track days for his track cars, but I don't know how long he leaves it for his street cars. So my conclusion is I will stick to using synthetic and changing it every 5000, but adding the concentrate in.
  17. pffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffft
  18. "WOT is wide open throttle." hehe, that's like saying How Long is a Chinaman Anyway, about S-AFC etc. I've noticed that upgrading my ECU gets me both more power and better economy, using similar driving habits. I went from 150rwkw and 15-16L/100km to 166rwkw and 13-14L/100km with a tuned S-AFC (0.8bar for both these), to 14-15L/100km and 215rwkw when retuned to 1 bar of boost and cooler upgrade, to my current ~215rwkw and 13-14L/100km with PowerFC and 0.8 bar of boost. The only thing now is my highway economy is slightly worse than it used to be, but that's because I haven't had it tuned yet. I know you should tune it as soon as possible after installing it, but my knock levels are so low and the car is running so great that I've put it off until I can afford an AFM upgrade (it's now maxing out at 0.9 bar, and it never maxed out even at 1 bar before with the stock ECU).
  19. Edit: Ok, everyone seems to have calmed down now (me included). And some more useful info has been posted. No need to close it I guess.
  20. Assuming that that's true, I fail to see how Mr Average Australian would even know that a Skyline had a 6cyl rather than a 4, let alone have an opinion about it one way or the other. On the most part, the average person is going just say "pfft, jap import sports car, it's rubbish, why don't they get a sensible Corolla/Laser/Camry/Magna/Commodore/Falcon?" To sum up, I don't think that choosing your number of cylinders based on public opinion is a good idea, and neither do I think your car is going to be more respected just because it has 6 cylinders, because most people won't know it's a 6cyl anyway (or even care). For the enthusiasts (ie the ones that know), opinion is going to be divided.
  21. Ah FFS. Do I have to spell it out for you at the risk of being labelled Captain Obvious? I don't have a problem with your opinion. I have a problem with the following. 1. Your comment "If you are trying to save money, catch a bus instead of driving your car." Not only condescending, but illustrating your inability to comprehend what I was saying. Most likely, you just didn't bother reading what I wrote properly. That in itself is contemptible. 2. Your various links, none of which you seem to understand. None of which addressing the questions I asked, and none of them mentioning Oil Extreme or calcium carbonate (and, with respects to the Roil thread, none mentioning Roil). 3. Your assertion that since you've tried "quite a few" additives and they didn't work, they must all be useless. I don't think you realised that this would make you look like more of a fool than you were already by this stage. 4. Even after asking you to link specific articles about Oil Extreme or calcium carbonate, you just fire off another useless arrogant response. 5. You seem to be what I like to call an "internet genius". Someone that googles a few terms, finds a few links, reads a few sentences to establish that they agree with what they're trying to say, and then compile a big list of them and put them up publically so as to look like they're well-learned. This is without actually understanding much (if anything) of the links they've posted. I did not want this thread to degerate into the argument fest it has become, and I don't think there are many people here that appreciate anything about this thread. Sure, they may have more of a problem with my long winded replies to you, but you're the first one to write something offensive. There are plenty of threads out there in which I disagree with what is said, but hardly any (if any) have ended up like this. For these reasons I place the blame of this solely on you. If you really wanted to be helpful all you needed to say is "I've tried a whole bunch of oil additives, none of them were Roil or Oil Extreme, and none of them did any good". Even that would be totally useless, but still not as offensive as what you origijnally wrote, and I could have simply ignored it. But you had to throw your 2c in as well which is really what pisses me off. And it's not just me either, you managed to do a similar thing to other people in the Roil thread. I'd join in there too but it's just easier for me to type this all out once here. For proof that I can appreciate a differing opinion without taking offence, take a look at my reply to Bass Junky in this thread. I still don't know if it's ok to leave oil in for 10k km if you change the filter at 5k, but the worst case here is we may have agreed to disagree. It's called being civil, and that's something you failed to do from the outset. Door's to your left, please don't let it smack you on the arse on the way out.
  22. Krawler, at least now I can see why you're trying to belittle everyone for trying additives. You've got your own insecure past of being an uninformed, ignorant, consumer whore. I have tried a total of *one* oil additive, that being Oil Extreme firstly in my Commodore. And I even didn't use that for 2 years after getting my Skyline, because I wasn't sure if it was going to do any good. I was tempted to use Roil based on other people's experiences with it, but ended up not doing so because I can't find out what the secret ingredient is. But the good results I saw people having with Roil is the only reason I even bothered considering using Oil Extreme again. The mechanic I went to a few years ago still swears by it and uses it. I only bothered using Oil Extreme based on my mechanic's testimonial and the information given on the Oil Extreme website. I just didn't decide to do some experimenting with additives for the hell of it, unlike you have done in the past. If you've bought random additives to try and do who knows what (you never specified) for your car in the past and failed, that's a big failure on your part but no reason to belittle anyone else trying to look for something more useful in the present. I clicked on a few of your links and I didn't see one reference to calcium carbonate. Perhaps I just don't have to patience to sift through them all, could you please point me to one which says it'll wreck your engine? Either post something more constructive or shut the hell up. Your arrogant testimonial means nothing to me.
  23. That's why the oil filter gets changed at 5000km. Krawler, maybe you need to do some more research yourself rather than just quoting a bunch of websites. Did you even read the Oil Extreme articles? Specifically the If you can find specific proof that Oil Extreme's oil is bogus or ineffectual? Forget the concentrate for a minute, just their oil specifcally. I've got a feeling that you jack shit about what you're talking about. Also you missed the point of my post. It wasn't to save money, it was to run better oil at lower cost.
  24. I don't think anyone here knows much about it (including me), but I thought I would ask anyway. Rather than go into all the technical details about it here, if you don't know about Oil Extreme, have a read of their product articles, for their concentrate additive and their motor oil The biggest difference I found between Roil and Oil Extreme is there is a lot more information on Oil Extreme, and why its main ingredient is better than the others, whether they are secret or public. This is the main reason why I am going to be getting Oil Extreme in the future (whether the full oil or just the concentrate), but there are a still unanswered questions I have which is the point of this thread. 1. Their oil is mineral based and not synthetic based. The first thing you'd assume is that since it's mineral based it can't possibly be as good as synthetic, which is what I also assumed. But they do a pretty good job of explaining why it's better than synthetic (it's even their catchphrase for it). What I want to know is, is it possible that a mineral based oil can be as good or better than a synthetic? If so why, and if not why not? 2. Assuming that it is better than average, does this mean you can extend the drain intervals, and if so by how much? My mechanic said that this oil can go up to 100 000 (that's 10-20 times a standard drain interval) before it needs changing, but he said to change the oil filter ever 5000. Now, I'm not going to do anywhere near 100k km without draining, but even if I can double my standard 5000 to 10000, that's still saved me money and potentially given me a better quality oil as well. The oil is around $100 for 5 litres. So if I can extend my drain interval from 5000 to 10000 (still changing the filter at 5000) it should save me a bit of money and hassle, but if I can't then I may as well just stick to a cheaper synthetic and stick the concentrate in. 3. Is there any information about whether or not calcium carbonate is bad for your engine? I know that it works as a good ant-acid for your stomach So in theory that means it might also help stop acids forming in your engine from other parts of your oil. The Oil Extreme site says why calcium carbonate won't harm your engine but it'd be nice to have an independant source. I forget the price of the concentrate, but once I get the price I'll put it up in here. From memory it was less than $20 a bottle, but I could be wrong. Also this mechanic has been using it in his turbo rotary cars (RX3, RX7, Cosmo) for many years now, so there's no doubt at all that it works well with turbos. I've been using the Oil Extreme concentrate for the past few thousand km in my R33, and so far the only things I've noticed is slightly better economy and power, pretty much in line with what people have been getting from Roil. So for me it now really comes down to which product will do less harm to your engine in the long run (which until Roil come clean with what their ingredient is, is Oil Extreme by default for me).
  25. I actually get uncomfortable when people compliment me too much on my car. Especially if it's in a group. Because one person will say "Oh man, what a cool car! I love Skylines!" and all I can think of is other people in the group who say nothing are just thinking "Goddamn wanker showpony!" I bought this car for me, because I like it myself. Of course I'd rather they complimented me than insulted me, but I'd rather people said nothing or just simply "nice car" without going on about it.
