  1. Yep its a 28 spline vl turbo LSD And yep to get me off the line smartly, and they are good for some other things too So verdict, I should beat the SV6?
  2. VZ is manual. . . 2.8:1 that is ridiculous lol. . Im running 4.11's on 18's
  3. Yeah 194kw I think. . I heard it was pretty sluggish until 4000RPM though, and for a 194kw motor it is pretty slow?
  4. Hi all, I know this might sound a bit stupid, what is faster etc etc etc. . But I have not yet finished my RB30DE (which have been told will make around 150kw at the rears from many credible sources). . Now, as it is not finished (should be in about a month), the suspense is killing me as to what will be faster, my RB30DE in my vl or my mates 05 VZ SV6. . He assures me that his car will wipe the pants off my vl with the RB30DE . . Discuss. . Also just a bit of info on the motor. . Fully rebuilt, Custom pistons, 20thou oversize Spool rods with ARP rod bolts Linished crank ACL race series bearings Balanced bottom end, pitsons rods crank flywheel pressure plate and balancer Head is a R33 head with vct, Cams 264 degree 10.7mm lift intake, 270degree 10.2mm exhaust Very mild port and polish to remove casting marks on intake ports. . All going through a R33 5 speed and 28 spline LSD turbo vl diff
  5. Hi all, Im in the process of building my 30/25 N/A. . Marc at MRC is also going to be finishing it (tuning etc) My motor consists of: Standard crank, balanced Spool rods and ARP rod bolds, balanced Custom Hyper Eutectic pistons (havn't ordered yet due to not knowing how deep valve notches should be for 10mm lift), balanced ACL race series bearings for the big end and main. . Pressure plate and flywheel are also going to be balanced. . Head is a standard R33 head with VCT. . I am looking at getting cams around the 270 with 10.2mm lift, would this be fine for the hydraulic lifters and would any head machining need to be done? I was going to use the RB25DE pistons but due to having to shave around 2mm from the block, that equates to a 4% loss in torque (Torque = Force x Distance) So I am opting for a set of custom made pistons. . 1. With the RB25DE pistons, what did the head CC in at to have a 12:1 comp ratio, or does it achieve this with the stock head (63cc) 2. Should I get my pistons made to the exact same spec as the RB25DE pistons but have them raised 2mm in the bore. . Therefore it should have exactly the same comp as the RB25DE pistons would have (a bit more) and should be able to fit the same cams as the RB25DE pistons would. 3. Would this be fine for 10.2 mm lift cams? 4. And what else should I look into for the build. . Things such as porting and polishing (how much does this cost?). an aftermarket balancer and would a 90mm throttle body suffice (im using a front facing plenum)
  6. Hi all, Im at the final stage of building my RB30/25. . I was going to use the RB25DE pistons however shaving 2mm off the block equates to a 4% loss in torque (Torque= Force x Distance). . and being an N/A I want all the torque I can get I have opted to get a set of custom Hyper Eutectic pistons made, that way I can get valve notches cut into them and bore the block 30thou oversize. . Bottom end is a linished crank, spool rods with arp rod bolts, hyper eutectic pistons, acl race series bearings for both big end and mains. . This is all fully balanced with the flywheel and pressure plate. . The head is a R33 head with VCT (Not sure if it can be used with custom cams?).. I am having it serviced and then when it is serviced I am going to have it re assembled with stiffer valve springs (if needed, not sure yet) to suit the cams. . Hopefully in the 270degree and 10mm lift range. . So my main question is. . What spec cams should I get? I understand that lift is for torque?? and duration is for. . . .? Note: I do not want to convert to solid lifters. And then, my head is going to cc in at about 50cc, in the hope to get into the 11:1 comp range. . If I have cams with say a 10mm lift, how deep will the valve notches have to be to clear the pistons (0 deck height)?? Thanks all, Josh
  7. I looked into getting custom cams made at SureCams. . He quoted me 770 but I cannot remember if that was for both or just one :S ill give him call back. . Just wondering what an ideal lift and duration would be. . I was thinking around 270 duration and 9mm lift. . ? Im using a custom made set of pistons and aiming for 11:1 comp ratio, so keep that in mind
  8. Hi all, Im about to buy a R33 5 speed. . Just wondering how to tell that it is actually a R33 5 speed instead of a MX-7 of something different? Thanks all, Josh
  9. Lower piston crowns also produce less torque as the piston crown is closer to the crank so you lose leverage on the crank. Nm = force x distance. . If I were you id look into getting a flat top hyper-eutectic piston made with a deck height of 0. . You can get them custom made with valve notches and to suit the bore size. . its around $900 I think. . (comes with rings, pins etc)
  10. Hi all, I am in the process of building a high comp n/a rb30/25 using RB25DE pistons. . I am aiming for a compression ratio of around 11-11.5:1 I was just wondering if anybody would be able to tell me the stock comp ratio (with the 25DE pistons in the 30 block with a non shaved head on a stock RB25 head gasket). . And also how much the head has to be shaved/how much the combustion chambers cc at to achieve the 11.5:1 comp ratio (once again on the stock RB25DE pistons and head gasket) Thanks a lot, Josh
  11. The motor isnt going into a skyline. . Im a vl boy lol Im on the restrictions for another 2 years. . Ive spent a lot of money on this motor already (I am going to keep the bulk of it when I am on my opens for my new motor), I just need a set of RB25DE pistons to bump up the compression for now. . So yeah. . What rings and from where? And is it necessary or can I just put the pistons straight in?? (with the rings on them of course)
  12. Hi all, Im building a 25/30 (N/A until im off restrictions), therefore going for a high comp setup, hence using RB25DE pistons. . Just wondering if it is necessary to buy new rings for the pistons when I put them in the 30 block, and if not, is it necessary to hone the cylinder walls. . If I need to get new rings, are the RB25DET and RB25DE rings the same?? And also what brand should I be looking at. . I looked at OEM Nissan and they wanted 500 just for rings. . Seems a bit expensive to me? Thanks, Josh
  13. $270 per piston!!!!! what a joke lol. . Hence the reason why I want 2nd hand ones. . What are some good Jap wreckers (sydney) that I can try?
  14. Hi all, Just after a set of RB25DE stock pistons. . Pm me with what you have. Thanks, Josh
  15. awsome. thanks for that mate ill give it a shot. . Josh
  16. Hi all, Another query. . Where the new spot for the tensioner/idler is, the threaded hole on my block does not have a flat surface surrounding it, and I imagine it needs to to seat the tensioner/idler properly???
  17. Hi all, Part way through the conversion and just had a couple of questions. . 1. Ive taken the balancer off the RB30 block but how the hell do i get the gear (behind the balancer) off?? 2. Im trying to track down a RB25 balancer and RB25DET oil pump, what are some decent Jap wreckers to give a call?? 3. In the guide it says to block the rear oil supply to the head and to fit 1.5mm restrictors at the front. On a photo of the head could somebody explain which ones to block and which ones to fit the restrictors too. 4. My motor will be non turbo for the next 6 months or so, looking to set the limiter to around the 7500 mark. Is it necessary to fit a full length oil pump drive collar to prevent oil pump failure? That is all, Thanks in advance. Josh
  18. Can the NEO6 head be used for the conversion? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/RB25-NEO6-COMPLETE-...1QQcmdZViewItem
  19. hi. was there ever a document made of this thread containing the useful information? Thanks, Josh
