  1. I guess working out front/back difference is easy, but yeah dunno what it does to determine smaller wheels diameter. Some guys reckon it doesnt/can't know, and that what i am seeing is simply wheelspin brought about by gearing. I beg to differ though, i reckon the GTR somehow knows. Perhaps it is comparing wheel speed to something. Perhaps when it goes over a certain threshold, vs gear vs engine speed, it gets confused. R35 has all sorts of crazy stuff, someone told me if you press hard enough on the steering wheel the system thinks you have just had a crash and will go into limp mode. Too smart by half.
  2. If the front/back is out too much (i think the threshold is closer to 4%) then the traction control system will invoke and pull power (thinks you are are wheel spinning basically). Also I found the system cannot deal with tyres less than 640mm in height. It does the same thing, i guess it concludes the wheel speed is too high and pulls power as it think you are out of control. In this case you have to turn VDC off, otherwise everything else works fine.
  3. I dont think you'll find any slicks that will outlast the 55's But for economy perhaps try some 2nd hand Michelin slicks. Get the S9's (harder, take longer to heat up but will laster longer) - i was getting about two days out of the 2nd hand ones, however they were about 1/10th the cost vs new. Those were up to a second faster vs new SR2 RE55's btw, so exceptional value. - We found Soft Michelins (S7) do not last long at all - a new set will last will last only 1.5 days at Wakefield - The new N1 compound is sensational, stiff sidewall, exceptional for a heavy car, the best yet.
  4. I have used SR2 and TT RE55's extensively. And S7, S8, S9 and N1 Michelin slicks. What sort of events are you thinking of running the tyres in?
  5. Mods on that car are catback + e85 willall tune (+injectors+fuel pump), slicks, coilovers and an aftermarket wing. totally streetable, driven to and from the track. and yes they are just that quick with sensible mods and good tyres.
  6. some of the comments are just hilarious.
  7. the diagnostic mode sequence is used only to reset the error once you have plugged the seat back in. i dont think it will work without an airbag (or trick resistor plugged in). you can buy the trick resistors in many places, for example http://gt-rr.com/product.html?m=works_bell...ness&id=761
  8. Mark, you've had a lot of rain up there recently, do you recall and instances where pads have bound to rotor (say overnight or if the car sits idle for a long period after rain?) you would hear/feel a noticable crack when you first move the car, or the car wouldnt move until you give it some throttle. I have a theory this happens a lot, and weakens the pad material, which then cakes off. Anyway, just a thought. I've never used ME20's, just the ccRG's (they have been fine).
  9. Here's a pic of them

New slicks are $3200/set and (depending on compound) may last as little as a single day. It's pretty simple. 2nd hand ones are great for practice/setup and working out what works in terms of diameter/width etc etc. Even 2nd hand slicks can be WAAY better vs r-specs (costing 10x the price of 2nd hand ones).
  11. Thanks John. thhose prices are a lot better!
  12. My thoughts: you could argue the opposite; why on earth would you use (more expensive and poorer performing) OEM road tyres, rotors, pads etc for the track? You are paying more, and getting less, and going slower. The GTR is a track oriented car, but, it's also a road going luxo GT barge, it has some significant compromises to keep the latte brigade happy.
  13. wow, how much?
  14. i would say running r's / non-r's around the car to correct a handling fault is a band-aid solution. might be a bad idea; like running cross plys and radials at the drag strip (ie. it's a big no no and disallowed). might work though, goodluck with it.
  15. what the hell is a "GT2"??
  16. you can get a seat base with slider / rail from JustJap for about $300AU http://www.forrestfamily.com.au/duncan/GTR/sparco-v/002.jpg Be careful when you drill holes for the side mounts, you probably do not want to mount the side mounts square on the rails, as the whole base is slightly offset when bolted to the floor. ie/ if you mount it all square the seat will be offset to the steering wheel. See pic above, you can see how i have offset the side mounts, front to back. I recently put a sparco V in the car ($450) just me being a tight arse again.. (and i wanted the weight out of the car) however interestingly this seat gave me the best support of any i have tried. http://www.forrestfamily.com.au/duncan/GTR/sparco-v/006.jpg
  17. Told ya - looks easy as Fish finder, lol.
  18. i'm not sure mixing r's and streets is such a good idea. it may seriously upset the attitude of the car. i wouldnt do it, it could be dangerous. have you tried with VDC off to see what happens?
  19. Listen again, swithing from the 98 tune to E85 there is a noticable point when it switches maps
  20. Here you go Roy FYI i turned off the GPS assisted steering for that run.
  21. I do have a vid of a 1:00.8 run - but you'll just tell me it all looks too easy

The 2nd hand slicks are great value for what they are, but there is nothing like the grip with the new ones. You have to try them. It's almost a crime to use 2nd hand slicks, given the capability of your car. I wish there was a way to make them more affordable.
  23. Some may have heard about REAL-TIME Cobb AP map switching for R35, in beta for a while but just released. Given i was eager to try this out ASAP, Willall Racing sent me a "repackaged" version of three R35 tunes to try... Previously it took about 5~10 minutes to swap a single tune over, not too shabby, but a good excuse to grab a doner at Rozelle United waiting for the E85 tune to load... So anyway after a quick update of the AccessPort firmware tonight, we can now: 1. Flash in SEVERAL tunes at once 2. Switch between those tunes in REAL-TIME 3. Reflash in 30 seconds (10x FASTER vs before) for new tunes 4. Avoid the kebabs How good is this, flick of a switch map swap using the stock ECU too. Btw, what's this new E85 "DRAG" tune you have loaded Martin??. What sort of gains will i see, should i revisit WSID?? Exciting stuff, cheers for the quick response Martin.

Mark, how do you feel about 450awkw, do you think the car can take more power (and use it) on the circuit?
