great result Mark, nice work to all involved. p.s. you're going to need that wing!

I've done a lot of drag racing in the past; this was just a fun relaxing day Duncan. How easy does the r35 do it, i could have been drinking a latte (might just do that next time for shits and giggles).
-
Recently Martin @ Willall set me up with a mailorder E85 tune for my R35; we had the local mainline dyno place give it a run to show a respectable 385awkw. Fuel, boost and knock all good So it was off to the drags yesterday (trackchat.com.au private day) to see how this puppy can go full weight down the strip. The WSID scales shows my R35 weighs in at a portly 1715kg, so including (portly also) driver we're talking about 1795kegs all up. Straight up i was surprised it ran a 10.8? @ 132mph, spinning off the line with a rather crappy launch. I was told not to come back if i intended running another 10, so i left it a few hours... Later in arvo i managed a better launch (1.71 sixty) for a better ET of 10.73 @ 132mph. So i was kicked out!! Very happy. This was on the 20" Bridgestones too (original rears which are quite shagged). I reckon with the lighter 18" track rims and less passenger seat we'll be about 3/10ths faster, but dunno if i will ever get the chance to find out though. The car drives absolutely 100% stock, you would never know! Thanks Martin.

Are you running any aftermarket sway bars? I've seen some testing done with them (at EC) and suffice to say it had a detrimental effect vs stocker setup. What do the sidewalls on those tyres look like? Nothing special for alignment for me, i can post the details later (scan the sheet). Perhaps something wasnt tightened during suspension setup and it really stuffed? Or was knocked out on one of the offs?
-
odd problem. which tyres?
-
Sensational. Thanks for the catback and tune Martin; 10.73 @ 132mph, 20" Bridgestones, full interior, we weighed the car at track (1715kg) + 80kg driver. Got booted after first warning, Would love to have tried with lighter 18's i reckon there's a couple of tenths there easy. Race seats and another tenth or two... hmmm. Pics and vids to come. thanks again Martin

Anyway Stuart, best of luck for the remaining rounds. Hats off to you mate you drive the car harder than most, decades of experience and it really shows. Goodluck.

The GTC01's are about $600ea; try Donnellans (Vic) Tirerack.com or even your local Jax can get in Enkei's
-
Enkie GTC01 18x10x22 (all round) you can use a 15mm rear spacer and rotate these all round http://www.forrestfamily.com.au/duncan/GTR...rk/P1010064.jpg http://www.forrestfamily.com.au/duncan/GTR/OranPark/159.jpg Pretty cheap (compared to te37's) with more caliper clearance. Handbrake seems to have had good results with the CCW wheels too.

and a lot of us have done our best to reduce that 400kg+ per corner which is apparently so important too. Is this just marketing spin because it sounds plain wrong to me. And why would someone with such supposed engineering genuis be involved in marketing BS anyway? Confuses the hell out of me, i dont get it. Anyone seen this article: http://www.carpoint.com.au/news/2010/sport...ybrid-gtr-19791

I'm still not clear on what has changed from 2009 to 2010. But if all this controversy comes down to the Type 4 engine cc limit then ok. If/when the protest eventuates maybe we'll be privy to who is lodging it and the exact reasons behind it. Until that happens i guess we're all guessing on the what/who/when/why's. Anyway goodluck in the last few rounds guys, everyone.

exactly what rules changed this year?
-
I may get time to drop them off soon Ben. The rims have been "smashed" around a lot, i dont expect warranty.
-
Duncan, have a read of Stuarts post above. It is primarily about 4D eligibility, specifically citing the r35's in this case. Types 1,2,3 and SV can run slicks and therefore be categorised as type 4 for points. This isnt a CAMS issue, it's a SSC rule.
-
Seems pretty clear to me, r35's (and other cars in SSC type 4 for that matter) do not need to be "sport sedans" AFAIK, it's black and white as above rule. I dont see how anyone could misunderstand this one.
-
Wow Stuart that's odd... Whomever or wherever this hearsay is coming from, they clearly have not read this part of the NSWSSC rulebook: "Type 4 - Competition vehicles based on Group 3D - Sports Sedan rules as defined in the CAMS Manual. In addition any vehicle that conforms to Type 1, 2, 3 or SV requirements shall be permitted to employ or use Race Tyres but if it does so it shall be classified as a Type 4 vehicle." Therefore "Type 4" for the NSWSSC can be any type 1/2/3 or SV car running slicks, simple as that. R35's are not sport sedans as defined by the CAMS manual, that is correct. There are many reasons why they never could be as you point out. But i believe that is irrelevant given the Type 4 category definition in the SSC rulebook.

interesting. so the GTR will cut power / torque based on tranny temps? how does it do that, timing adjustment?
-
Me too (i dont keep count!) the dorians did capture as my 1:02.3 was on the screen in the office; but they went through an culled the time given it was past the four laps. I already asked and i was told this is the blanket rule; i think the idea is they think it was our doing/fault, as such we have limited other people laps in the process.. But in this case it was not our fault, nor do i think it limited anyones track time. Anyway whatever is on natsoft is final, they will not alter results. Glad it didnt impact points for me otherwise i would have been pissed off a bit.
-
Yeah i missed out on a pb being recorded because they left me out for 5 laps. Not happy.

c'mon Martin youse a westie at heart (as am i)

I did a couple of hillclimbs at Bathurst earlier this year, good fun. Not sure i will have time or the budget for sprint bathurst to be honest, too many other events happening. Also with the frequency of bathurst events (one per year?) not sure it would ever be enough!

Heads up for those who track in NSW; i believe a new benchmark has been grafted today at Wakefield. Marek ran a stunning 1:01.37, mods include catback, Willall E85 tune, FIXED wing, new slicks and a talented driver. Insane. I believe Marek is driving the kids to school tomorrow morning in the car too! R35: The supercar for anyone, anytime, anywhere. Nissan delivered today! I am simply amazed at what this car can do with some simple mods. Congratulations Marek. Now, where's my chequebook....
-
awesome isnt it? who would have thought a genuine street driven 1700kg luxomobile could run 1:01's (albeit with a track wheels / slicks bolted on trackside). Insane. We're not done yet, 59's anyone?
-
err, i just want to go fast and have fun. i didnt realise there was an 'ethos' we had to adhere to sorry! btw, lighten up they are just tyres i have a garage full of semi's too so hopefully i am not too wicked!
-
Mark the r35's go well on the 2nd hand michelin gt series slicks (they are s9's - hard compound) they take a lap or to to come on. They are very exxy new but very cheap 2nd hand (we usually get about two sprints from a 2nd hand set) anyway we run the 270/68's but you may be looking at the 240's to fit your car (do you run 18's?) They have worked for us and are faster than semi's on our cars. A certain someone will be running softer michelins this weekend (s7's) i am sure it means i will be pipped by my good mate, he'll run a 1:01.xx - if you end up running michelins talk to marek and i we have some advice re pressures and heat cycles for these.
