My Gtr Has A Petrol Smell Always. Wheres It From?
grey pearl replied to Owgasm's topic in General Maintenance
My money's on the fuel filter r31's are notorious for it the clamps are flat stainless steel and cut into the hose and small cracks develop leaking fuel in a mist because of the pressure,of course you have to do them up tight because of the fuel injection pressures,so regular maintenance to the hoses is the key even replacing them now and again as they are relatively short pieces.Grey Pearl. -
Thanx Duncan will have a look.Cheers Grey Pearl.

But none for GTR'S I just contacted them to prompt them to look into making one for us,you guys could do the same on the site you listed.Grey Pearl.

Besides my GTR and some 31's I have a 700h/p daily driver ute and it has forged pistons which are noisy when cold because of the swell required in the piston material to bring it to the required piston to bore clearance. The way I understand it the result of revving or driving the car before the pistons have swollen to the required tolerance and putting load on the engine is that the piston moves in an oval movement, although only slightly at low revs, until the swelling is complete then it travels in a more direct path up and down the bore necessitating much less wear, obviously the higher the revs when cold the more times the piston is exposed to pre swollen wear as load accentuates the oval movement. Of course I'm talking about forgies here which is the most extreme tolerance piston to bore clearance,so a normal piston would not have as much problem and therefore warm up would not be as important as I believe it is for my engine, but I believe cold start wear is less about oil temp as many people think and far more about piston swell and tolerances,so in normal car circumstances I agree with the other posters to take it easy till engine temps are reached.Cheers Grey Pearl.

Duncan to the rescue again, thanks mate,I think I will get the iridium ones as it seems set and forget ,or do they need re-gapping every so many thousand kms, obviously if you have to re-gap them at the same kms you need to replace copper ones you might as well use copper and have new plugs each time,my main concern is wearing out the threads in the aluminium head with too many changes going on ,what special tool will I need to get them out,and is there anything else I should know before doing the job.Cheers Grey Pearl.

Thanx mate, did your mate tell you what they did to fix it?? and are all r33gtr starters the same, import or not??And would it be easier to remove while the gearbox is out or just as hard,as I heard they can be a real bitch to get at the top bolt out??Cheers Grey Pearl.

Vibration At 100km/h
grey pearl replied to Rekin's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
The thing I notice with a lot of posts about faults that occur after work has been done on a vehicle is that people fix everything unrelated to the problem trying to fix it, when what you need to ask yourself is was this problem present before the work was done,if not then it is first and foremost related to the work that was done and therefore your first port of call should be to take it back to where the work was done and tell them that it wasn't doing it when you brought it there and you want it fixed at their expense. Also in order to make them aware of this fact you need to let them drive it ,if it is driveable, before you leave it, then there will be no argument as to whether the problem was already present when the car was dropped off.Grey Pearl. -
Anyone!!? And yes I have searched but info was too confusing and not specific to my questions.Grey Pearl.

Cheers mate, Can you explain which set inside or out should light up brighter when braking on your GTR.Grey Pearl.
-
Thanks Duncan, So can you explain to me how they work when all are wired up to glow,is it the inside set that have the double filament bulb for brake indication or the outside set,and is it illegal for all 4 to glow in Aus?? Grey Pearl.

Does anyone know what symptoms reflect the need for new spark plugs in a gtr33,is it detrimental to wear them out till they tell you they are stuffed or should you beat them to it,and which type should I run copper or iridium? I read somewhere that performance is the same just longevity differs,is that right??Grey Pearl.

Hi All, When I got my GTR the tail lights had been modified [i think] to only glow on one set on lights with the lights on, and all 4 on braking,is this normal? The guy I bought it off told me the car was a test case for correct compliancing in Aus. Should a GTR33 have all 4 tail lights lit up when the lights are on, all of the ones i've seen on the road do,must just have a double filament bulb for brake brightness when braking, what is legal here and what were they like in Japan?? My r31's all have all lights glowing at all times when the lights are on so why should it be illegal for a GTR??Cheers Grey Pearl.
-
Thanx for the reply mate,I will look at your method on my car and see if it is the same for mine but if anyone can verify that doing this job on a gtr is the same as on a gtst I would appreciate it.Cheers Grey Pearl.

Hi All, Can anyone direct me to any info on removal proceedure for gtr33 headlights or tell me how it's done properly.Cheers Grey Pearl.

Hi All,I have an annoying but apparently not detrimental problem with my r33gtr starter motor, when I start the engine the starter squeals for about 10 secs after it fires up,I can beat it sometimes by being quick on the key release at the exact time it starts but it doesn't always start exactly when I think it will so I have to try again. I would like to fix this annoying problem while my gearbox is out,but being an import I may have trouble with parts, anyone had or heard of this noise before and how or what to do to fix it.Cheers Grey Pearl.

Check clutch spigot bush was replaced or even put back in at all, that's the one that slides over engine crankshaft .Grey Pearl. -
Redline Gear Oil
grey pearl replied to Hijacker...'s topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I accept that for you this seems to be working so go with it, nevertheless I disagree with blanket use of this oil for the reasons outlined in my previous posts.Cheers Grey Pearl.
