Need Help With Achieving That Perfect Paint Job
wilorichie replied to lincellusion's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
If you say you put clear coat on last - I wouldn't wait until it is completely dry (Normally 1-2 weeks). I would fine sand the clear coat after 2-3 days when it is solid, but not completely dry - This makes it easier for both sanding and buffing/polishing the clear back to glass. -
If you want to have a go, sure - Will benefit me more than you haha. How much would something like your GPS tracker cost + install with you guys? I'm assuming your business does them by the way you speak of it

As of all above, looks like we all agree it isn't easy! The surface rust stuff is pretty easy... You can pretty much pretend you are just prepping a surface and get it done. But cutting out a decent size of your metal body and welding a piece back on perfectly smooth - Now we are getting into the professional league. Welding is easy, but welding good enough to be painted over... different story

Not sure about Q 1 and Q 4 But: 2 - the minor rust I'm guessing it will be shave back and apply with fiberglass and hardener and make smooth and apply primer and went sand a coupe of time to make smooth and flush and then respray, wondering is this the best method? I would call your minor rust just surface rust. Anything more than that, I would call that part of Q3. But, it is fairly simple to remove. Sand with low grit sandpaper - Remove most of the surface rust with this. Get some liquid rust cleaner and scrub it with rough wet and dry sand paper - This should remove the rest of it. Now you should have a rust free surface that is fairly scratched. You can use primer filler or spray putty then primer (about 3 or 4 coats) - Which should then be sanded and smoothed. 3 - about the bigger holes that the rust has eaten up, what to do there? You need to cut out all the rust completely and refill with steel/weld or bog. Then of course do your normal putty/primer/sand. This is actually quite a bit harder than it sounds. I've never done it myself, I feel it would be too touchy. On my 33 I had it done professionally - I wanted the patch welded and I wouldn't be able to do a good enough job for a car to be painted over.

It's a lot harder to respray yourself... It's easy to get the paint on... but doing quality clear coats requires some practice... It's harder than it looks!

I'm just curious, how old are you Troy? Are you into painting? Learning? -
Hey Guys With all this current local theft, I thought it might be a good idea to see what kind of alarms people have out there and if anyone knows why one alarm is better than the other etc... So if anyone knows any possible upgrades/ways to improve their current system, by all means, please share! I have a Mongoose M80 - Which is basically 3 point immobiliser, siren, aussie standards cert (good for insurance) Was around $500 installed from autobarn. I was pretty worried about the car when I had to park it at the gold coast on Saturday night... Gold coast is scary shit with cars now!

Cheap Body Kits For R33 Series 2 In Melbourne?
wilorichie replied to Deza3000's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
Shane is really good - Very helpful guy. It might be best to email him - [email protected] - He normally replies within about 4-5 hours. They pack their items really well. Most body kits who courier their items don't pack it as well as Shane does. The items look exactly like the originals and the fiberglass feels really strong and flexible. Their items are worth every cent. -
All white does look nice and clean, but also fairly standard - even though we know its not. The black on white really gives definition - The clear cut lines and the eye candy of the joins (Where black hits white). It really shows off the non-standard features. Black and white really show each other off - That's why black and white is so common in ALL types of designing (homes, websites, photos, furniture, clothing etc...). Not only is it very popular choice of 'colours' (Not really colours so to speak) but it also doesn't go out of fashion.

had a black 33 behind me from richlands train station to durack... on here?

If its a really flat surface, you can use the same material as the touch-screen phone protectors. Colour it in with your perm pen and attach it on the plastic like you would with a phone. This way, no glue or anything is required and you can perm pen it as much as you like.

Yeh its funny how long goes into prepping and painting. I was prepping it slowly over 2 days. Panting - Took maybe 2 minutes per coat and did about 5 coats of each colour/clear. Time wise, I would say Prepping: 80% Painting: 20% Autobarn at Slacks Creek mixed the colours -> $50 for 500ml (Ask for $40 and they might do it for you hehe). They mix it pretty much spot on. I've tried on many angles and it doesn't look darker or lighter than the body. Looks pretty much spot on. Nice work Autobarn!

Kit is painted - Did a home job, but quite happy with the result http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/371453-r34-impul-side-skirts/page__gopid__5939636#entry5939636 Rear bumper due this Monday.

I finished spraying the sides the other day, so grabbed the camera and took a few photos for those that where interested. It is a bit of a story - I mentioned in another thread, that the body shop which fitted these didn't fit them like normal impul skirts. They put screws in the sides of the skirts into the side of the car, I was a bit upset. I took the job home and wanted to finish it from there. I left the screws in (holes already in the car) and filled up a little hole they left from the way they installed it. Once it was fairly smooth, primed it as such I had a booking with Clint (SonnyQ) for tinting and needed to drive the car - So had asked my misses to help me tape up the car again - Makes life much easier Car is finally ready for painting I wish I took some photos doing the coats of colour + clear but didnt Only have the finished result:

Hey callum, do you always park your car at the forest lake square? I've seen one there for years... I assume working at wollies or bws? Saw a bayside blue 34 at slacks creek today at around 11am - XXX RNY - Looking pretty mean.

R34 Gtt Rear Bumper Removal Tips
wilorichie replied to wilorichie's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
Hm charles! Thats why I asked for tips - Not how to do it, which is what the DIY is. There are many tricks to the trade, which is a fairly obvious statement. There are always a few small bits of knowledge people have to offer to make life just that little bit easier Thanks shotgun - I'll be sure to remember to do that. -
Starting to notice a few skylines around Forest Lake... and quite a few P plates on them
-
Heh, I have just painted the skirts, will post up a pic later. But unfortunately, car appointments forced me to either do a rush job or a good job, and I prefer a good job
-
Just for future reference, Shannon and Emily are really good - And very friendly and hospitable. Darkest legal on mine and it looks really good. Shannon is taking the trip to my place just to ensure it is 100% today as well - What more can you ask for? I'll put some photos up over the next day or so. Great deal and good quality. Contact: [email protected] (She replies fairly quickly)

ah nice paint job there man... $900 well spent Hopefully will have a few photos up of my new sides soon. Took some 'in progress' shots as well hehe...
-
I didn't end up returning to the body shop to finish the job. Decided to give it a go myself. lol - I'm going to end up painting mine on Sunday. Prepping tonight. Meeting up with sonnyQ tomorrow for tinting - And yes, with unpainted skirts! /cries
-
There is a good reason why there are heaps Because they are good! Had mine fitter dori... It fit with the original skirt in tact. The guys that fitted it though didn't line up the side curves properly though... They fitted it really tightly but they had it slightly wrong lol... Looks really good though, so doesn't line up like most other impuls... But it looks really good how it is lined up (looks like it is supposed to be like that... but its not lol). Unpainted - Will be painting them myself now on Sunday. Which really sucks because I'm meeting up with sonnyQ (Clint) on Saturday for our tinting. My car is going to look like a bomb with those dodgey unpainted sides!!
-
Just got my car back with the side skirts fitted but unpainted. Sounds like it is going back to them tomorrow. I didn't want to leave my car there because the panel shop would of had to park her on the street over night - So I felt much more comfortable knowing I could have her in my garage safe and secure. The drive home was horrible knowing I have these 2 big white chunks on the side of my car (My car is dark blue). I feel like the biggest cop bait in town. I also felt I should share my pain with everyone
