  1. I plan on finishing the turbo to cat exhaust (I've got the 3.25" cat back apexi n1 system) after I do the front mount and then a safc 2 after that. Would like to have 250HP @ wheels by then... but after speaking to my insurance company I might not do anything *sigh*
  2. Ok, I just rang up HBF to confirm I wanted to change my policy from RAC to them and I got talking to the guy about the insurance and about modifications. If you want to "add" your modifications (cover them) with the policy they will need to check with their underwriting agency. Also if you "modify" the engine in any way you "must" tell them or if you have an accident and its your fault your policy and claim will be null and void. So I threw to him the scenario of a fmic and electronic boost controller (I have the ebc, but no fmic *yet*). He went away and called me back after a couple of hours. Basically HBF will "not" insure my car unless its bog stock standard, if I choose to leave it standard I can insure it and if I have an accident it'll be covered. My other option is to go with them, do the mods and pray like hell that I dont have an accident and its my fault. I'm starting to get pretty frustrated by this all, I've got a clean driving history (no accidents) I had maximum no claim bonus with RAC. Also I wanted to insure the car for an "agreed" value of $25,000 (as it would cost through a dealer roughly $25,000 to get a 94 with simular mods to mine) but because I imported it myself and it cost me ~ $17400 they would only insure it for $17400, unless I go to RAC and get them to give me a letter quoting its worth. If the insurance company doesnt have market information about imports, how would RAC have market values of them??? Looks like HBF is a cheap insurance company if you leave the car stock, but otherwise it could end up costing you a lot of money. In the meantime anyone have any suggestions on insurance companies that deal only with imports?
  3. Anyone here with a fmic and stock turbo still? If so once the fmic went in did you notice any noticeable power difference up or down? Anyone also run more than 14psi through the turbo regularly without it blowing up?
  4. Why not weld 2 r33 stock coolers together?? I've seen 2 s13 coolers done like that That'd be an interesting experiment, quite cheap mod too, if it worked wellish
  5. It took 3 weeks to get my import approval. Mind you this was 1 year ago. I sent it off around 15/1/02 and got it back around 10-12 of feb I think. My advice is ring them up and be very polite with them over the phone and ask them where abouts in the que yours is. Whatever you do, dont mention the car is in the country (if it is they are not supposed to give you the approval and may make you destroy the car or export it back out), just be very polite to them because if you're rude I'm sure you will go back to the end of the pile and as its a govt organisation you have **** all chance of being able to rectify that. When I rang up and enquired about mine I got a pretty nice guy who was quite helpful on the phone, they had just brought in a new rule of having to have photo ID sent in with the application which had to be signed off by a Justice of the Peace to verify it was you. So I had to quickly run around and photocopy my passport and send it in, this is what held me up by another week. Now I had to ring up and find that out, no-one was about to call me and say "hey you forgot this". Just be nice and polite
  6. 10 days? cops ass. Mine took 3 weeks, red17's took about the same I think too. Then the workshop has to spend 2-3 days doing the compliance work, then an engineer has to come sign off on it (usually the workshop will wait till they have 3 or so vehicles to be done as its cheaper for them, than 1 vehicle at a time). Then they send the forms off to the feds, who then process and send the workshop the green compliance plate (sometimes sent to the compliance plate holder, ie: low volume importer) then it gets fitted to the vehicle. Now thats barring any other problems, like mechanical faults or body problems with the car that might stop it from being registered at the dept of transport. I applied for the import approval 1 week before the car left japan, and it took 10 days to get the car from japan to fremantle, so my car sat on the wharf for about 4 days till I had the import approval. Then you have to get the car through customs and all your gst and import duty paid (get a custom agent to do it for you, much easier to pay them the money and let them sort it). Then it goes for compliance.
  7. I'm not saying anything bad about speedworks, I understand there were issues with getting the stock. Shit happens, things dont always go right, but in the end I'm just glad its turning up. Speedworks have already done a fair bit of work on my car and I've always been happy with what they've done, they certainly have experienced mechanics and tuners working for them.
  8. its a trust 600x244x76mm jobbie, should go nicely with a big phat turbo
  9. Got a digi camera and/or a dv camcorder? Pics and vids would be nice
  10. My intercooler *may* be here this week, only taken 5 months to come from japan *laugh*. looooooong story
  11. He only likes saying "only 10psi" cos he ran a 13.4 with only 10 psi... bastard!
  12. Do you have a boost gauge? or was it dyno'd to 11psi and set?
  13. I dont understand why more people dont just buy a clanga or drive a NA car till they are a little older and can afford insurance on a turbo... makes more sense, be patient, save some money and get the car you want a little later and save money on insurance.
  14. I know the consequences of running too much boost and high intake temps... what I dont understand is why so many people persist with bleed valves and stock coolers. With bleed valves it will spike to probably more than 1 bar and is hardly as controllable as a EBC. Just wandered how many people did it and why?
  15. Guys, I went out lastnight at around 8pm, seemed fairly coolish so I set the EBC to 0.8bar andway was giving it a bit of stick and the car started to detonate. So as soon as it did I took my foot off the accelerator and dropped the boost to 0.6bar. A few guys run bleed valves and stock I/C's do you guys detonate as well?
  16. The HKS power filter (green one) is great. It allows maximum flow and minimum filtration which is good for HP. Unfortunately it does let dust in, but hey the japanese drive around with no air filters sometimes.
  17. You've been selling this car for the last 6 months or so Admit it you love it. Nengun has the HKS cam gears for $180aud delivered I think.
  18. dave, why did you go with the safc over the e-manage? I thought you were sold on it.
  19. A good alarm system will always reduce your premium. As with locking the car in a complete garage and living in a post code where car theft is low
  20. we are also HBF heath members, so its a little cheaper. Dave's is more than likely cheaper as he's older than me. just call them up on their std line and follow the prompts to car insurance... I'd do it soon I heard a rumor they are going to review pricing.
  21. Memphis if I was you I wouldnt be pointing that marker at anyone. Its illegal to point anything that resembles a gun at someone in WA. Let alone pump out a few rounds which could take out their eyes, which would in turn **** up paintballing for everyone. I've been hit by a normal marker at several ranges, one paintball managed to break the skin (hit my hand, didnt have any gloves on) and cause a serious welt to go with the bleeding, imagine coping one in the eye, you'd lose it. Save the marker for the field when its legal to inflict such pain on your friends
  22. Rang HBF today as I'm a private heath member and I got $780/year for a 25 year old (no accident history) with a 55% (maximum ncb with RAC) ncb. cars insured for $25k, basic excess of $200 and a $250 age excess for under being under 27. Pretty damn good if you ask me
  23. I found that about 2 weeks after fitting an apexi twin chamber bov that the car run far richer(started back firing on 80% of gear changes) and had less power than before. Having removed it and reconnecting the std bov and reseting the ecu the car runs leaner and of course feels that tad bit quicker. As per my mod list below, I still have the stock turbo, cooler and ecu, but running 0.8bar of boost. I think if I go for an aftermarket bov I'll go for an atmo/plumback so I get the psccchu and it doesnt run so rich. I've also found since putting the HKS pod filter on the stock bov does sound much louder when it vents.
  24. Dave, I'll probably be going with HBF too as I'm a member and RAC have just sent me re-newal papers with the usual R32 GTR crap on it, aka not insuring imports anymore.
  25. 25 currently, 26 in october.
