I just got my plates!! Freaking hard to get custom ones here in Jp. Basicly you get the usual plates. If you want a special number, you pay a small premium but the hard thing is its a lucky draw or need to know someone. I applied for a single digit plate which as you can imagine is so difficult to get because there isnt alot left. Today got the call from the dealer and he got me my plates!
For those who are interested, the plates here actually explain a number of things about the vehicle.

In Tokyo, the plates to have are Shinagawa (品川) Any other plates dont cut it. Cars registered with these plates are regarded as educated or richer residents in the Tokyo area. Adachi (足立) plates are looked down upon. If you look at the two plates below, you can guess who is in the better area and one got lucky with the - - 35 number. Most luxury or connected people have plates with 8 on them only. If you see any black Mercs that have 8 on them, try not to piss off the driver
Anyway, just wanted to share that with you guys. Now when you see a car in JP, you can know alittle more about the owner.
