Thanks guys, I'm gonna give the hairdryer trick a go and hopefully be able to back up my data and trophies. A mate from Uni repairs consoles so hopefully he can check it out... Problem is, he's overseas until the end of the month!!! Worst comes to worst, it'll be a purchase of a new pansy slim ps3. Eps, did you ever work out a solution for your console?
-
Well, after 42 months of heavy use, my ps3 finally copped the YLOD. The fat thing worked endlessly and put up a decent fight. Time to jump on YouTube for a bit of a DIY fixeruppa... Any experience with fixing this thing; other than putting it in an oven?? Unless the oven method actually fixes it

How much of the game have you guys played? The first half hour is shithouse. I'll admit I felt the same as you guys until last night when I actually gave it a decent go. The fun factor is definitely there... After you look past the average graphics and primitive engine. That being said, it shouldn't take a good hour to get "into" a game. Hopefully the next Duke will be made properly.

When I bought this game back at launch, I only played it for, literally, a half hour and never touched it again... Until today. I thought I'd give it another try and spend a little bit more time to actually play the game. After having a decent run through, I've gotta say that this game is pretty fun. Sure, it isn't state of the art, but it does have a bit of a fun factor. All the interactions are pretty cool too. Now, time to give multiplayer a go.

When it came to violent movies and games, my parents didn't mind. I was allowed to watch/play anything at that age. They knew I wasn't gonna go on a rampage or start stabbing people; and that's because I wasn't f**king retarded like the dumbass kids these days.

Aussie Consumers Say No To High Game Prices
EeLeYe replied to EeLeYe's topic in PC & Games Discussion
You bring up a good point, but in the case of digital media, I still have to disagree. The cost of goods should be irrespective of how much people earn. Apple shouldn't charge the prices they do because our minimum wage is higher than say, the US. Before they updated the cost of apps, they were capitalising/taking advantage of the strong Aussie dollar. For example, an app now costs 0.99 USD and 0.99 AUD. With the current exchange rate (at time of this post) 1 AUD buys 1.066 USD. So now Apple are getting an extra 0.06 USD for every app an Aussie buys. Sure, it's miniscule but that's not the point. My point is, regardless of how much one earns, we are still being overcharged for something that requires no handling and no middlemen. Digital media pricing should not be so vastly different. I don't use Steam, but I know their prices are just ridiculous. On another note, how are Aussie exporters affected? Do they have to reduce their prices because our dollar is stronger and wages in other countries are lower? Everything here still costs the same so it means they'll lose in that sense; my understanding anyway. -
Going by current reviews, it doesn't seem to have the wow factor that I originally expected from the trailer. Let us know how it is. I'm still considering it...

Aussie Consumers Say No To High Game Prices
EeLeYe replied to EeLeYe's topic in PC & Games Discussion
Digital media is what shits me. It doesn't require shipping or handling of any kind and there are no middle men involved. The cost of "bulk" orders is non existent in this case since there are no physical items. Therefore the price should be no more than other countries. And since it is just digital, It should also quite easily adjust to the strong Aussie dollar. Why are iTunes apps in the US $0.99 when here they are $1.19?? And don't get me started on the overpricing of downloadable music. No actual medium to manufacture and yet it costs the same to buy a cd. As chappy mentioned, iTunes and steam are prime examples of this. -
Aussie Consumers Say No To High Game Prices

Well it's not just games. It's everything in general. Australia is f**king expensive!!! Think about it, consumer electronics, clothes (proper brands), house, cinema, restaurant, cars, alcohol, parking in the city - the list is never ending. Apart from fuel, everything is so expensive compared to other developed countries. Then again, we get the shit fuel anyway. amiright ??? -
Valid points guys. I agree with the epic story of mw2. I just found out my brother has already pre-ordered bf3 so I'll be giving it a go on his pc. He at least has a 2600 i7 so it should run awesome. After comparing, I'll give my two cents and provide an update.
-
Turns out MW3 has smashed pre-order sales over Black-Ops. I'm not sure how Battlefield 3 sales are going. Someone will have to inform me. Depite this, screw all you guys - I'm going MW3. Battlefield 3 looks awesome, but my PC is in need for a Motherboard/CPU/RAM upgrade which I'm not willing to do for one game. Console version will run like shiiit. Plus, I couldn't give a fk about "realism". I like the arcade style MP. FLAME ON !!!

"For Aussie gamers, it seems the R18+ classification can't come soon enough. Last month the federal government announced it will move ahead to introduce the adult rating before the end of the year. But how much will actually change when Australia has R18+ for games? The federal government has stated time and time again that the refused classification (RC) category isn't going anywhere, that any game that "offends against the standards of morality, decency, and propriety generally accepted by reasonable adults" will still be RC and banned for sale in Australia. It's important to understand that the Classification Board is a ruling body made up of members of the community who are asked to follow a set of rules. While these rules will be made clearer with the introduction of R18+ for games, identifying standards of "morality, decency, and propriety" will always remain a subjective action. " Will R18+ lead to fewer game bans? I think it won't. I have the idea that most members in these "boards" and well, politicians in general, come from small towns whose morals and values are old school and somewhat frozen in time. I guess, we'll just have to wait and see if this R18+ classification will make much of a difference.

I hope you're not referring to your 34...

Are they bringing out a new video game? "restorations: skyline edition" Congrats on your new ride anyway.

Nsw Attorney General Backs R18+ Rating "in Principle"
EeLeYe replied to oweban's topic in PC & Games Discussion
Taking away MA15+ is a good idea as it will CLEARLY separate the Adult games with the non-adult games. Keeping the MA15+ rating will still give the possibility of crossing over MA and R games. Much like movies, I still get confused as to why Saw is MA whilst Reservoir Dogz is R. And for the under 18s, Screw 'em... -
Has anyone thought about Rage? Or is Multiplayer the main point of this thread... in which case Rage will be lacking.
-
I read that they're using a tweaked mw2 engine...
-
-
I'm gonna go against most here and take the mw3 route. I prefer the quick action "arcade style" gameplay.

A good way to meet people from the forums is to come to the monthly meetings. Only problem with other meets is that they're usually in SE Melbourne. And I cbf driving that far to "wash my car" and chat for just 20 mins.
-
It'll never happen. Banning violent video games won't solve anything. If anything, it will probably increase violence. There's nothing better to let out anger after a bad day on GTA or the likes. Banning violent games because of some crazy f*k is just silly. Does that mean we should also ban driving a car because of all crazy drivers who disregard the safety of others?? The real question would be, "why did he have access to these weapons?" Obviously their psychology tests when issuing the guns are flawed.

^^^ This Trunk monkey would be ultimate. Too bad Aussie insurance requires a 2 point immobiliser...
-
Its an awesome idea. Can't stand the miniature boxes with split screen. Correct me if in wrong, but this is only for passive 3d, yes? I don't see anyone doing this with their active 3d glasses. Watched the vid at work with no sound.

UPDATE - My previous link has been updated with the full article. f**k YEAH!!! The federal government has announced Australia will introduce the long-awaited R18+ classification for video games, saying the process will only take "a couple of months." Federal Minister for Home Affairs Brendan O'Connor said that he would go ahead an introduce the R18+ classification for games at a federal level, and it would then be up to each state and territory to decide whether or not it adopts it. Don't see why Victoria won't adopt it. I don't care about the other states...

Aussie R18+ decision due today Link gives access to Live stream video "Australia's censorship ministers have gathered today in Adelaide as part of the Standing Committee of Attorneys-General regular meeting. On the agenda this morning is a topic close to many gamer's hearts--the introduction of an R18+ rating for video games. After almost 10 years on the agenda, will today be the day Australia's various state, territory, and federal governments finally agree on the introduction of an adult rating for games down under? Or will there be more delays?" Following past trend, more delays will be the result after today's meeting...
