Review Of My $800 Hypergear Hi-flow Atr28/g3
kccortez posted a topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
So its been a few months now of having the hypergear turbo installed in my series 2 rwd. Nuances aside like needing a new oil line and minor install issues i must say it is so far the best mod i have made to my car!!!!! I have a few supporting mods - zorst, fmic, t-boost controller, walbro pump and safc neo. So far on 10psi i'm getting 186rwkw which is great. Im only on 10psi as the R&R was kicking in with anything higher. Their is a little more lag than standard, though once on song the turbo reaaly pulls hard to redline. For the money i dont believe their is much else on the market. Service by stao at hypergear is great!! In the next few weeks i will be booking in for a nistune at status tuning ala trent. if i could get around 220rwkw before maxing out the injectors i'll be very happy. If i'm keeping the stock injectors would their be any other mods that should be done to get the most out of my tune? ie z32, new actuator, plugs, coil packs? If your on a budget and want a highflow, go the hypergear!!!!!!! -
Small Turbo Upgrade Question
kccortez replied to ClutchBurndout-:('s topic in Engines & Forced Induction
definately go for the hypergear. its not 100% bolt on, and you need a new oil line, but after a few months of running one im glad i went through with them. The turbo really pulls well! Mine is slightly more laggy than standard though i did get the atr28/g3 which can handle 450hp. People have their opinions but as a hypergear customer i can say for the price and service their is not much that can touch them!!! -
hey, any update on the auto rebuild? I need to get the shift kit done and called rvo. They really seemed to know what they were talking about. They mentioned that they had a problem just recently with a stagea, i presume it was yours. Let them know my box was "b" type and they said as long as the auto wasn't tired it should be fine. I've only done 70k and my auto is not slipping yet. was yours slipping at all in any gears before you got the kit done?

Yes Tao, Your service was excellent, please don't take anything the wrong way. I will recommend your turbos to anyone. Though as the mechanic suggested to you and myself, If you offer to arrange install and removal of the turbo, organise quotes for drive in drive out and so on, your duty of care lies not only in the supply of the turbo(which is excellent) but the installation as well. You did not hi-flow the turbo with your own hands, you sent it off to get done. If their as a malfunction with the turbo(i'm sure it never will) it is up to you to rectify the problem. I had recieved a quote through you at hypergear for the turbo and installation. I paid Hypergear not anyone else for the turbo and installation, therefore if their are problems with the installation it is hypergear that has to rectify the problem. In the future it might be best to recomend a workshop to get the turbo on off and ask the client to deal directly with them and not yourself. That way you can just deal with the high-flowing of your turbos. But as i said tao the service by you at hypergear was excellent. Would have liked to know about the oil feed before driving it around but you did supply a new one for me which was fantastic. So far 187rwkw at 10psi which is quite good. I will pop in and let you know how it goes after a nistune...

OK! So the Hypergear atr28-g3 hi flow turbo is in. Let me first get this out of the way.... HYPERGEAR IS NOT A DIRECT BOLT ON TURBO!!!!!!!! So first i had a chat with tao from hypergear and he had arranged for the turbo to be taken of and on by someone i presumed he was affiliated with. So monday morning i rocked up to the workshop, waited. Waited. Waited and know one decided to show up. Called Tao and he said they were to Busy(Aren't we all!!!) but the workshop next door to him is trusted by him and that he arranged it with them. So i dropped my car of to them. 6 days later i got my car back. So exited was i until i took of from the workshop. LAAAAAAAG lag lag lag, ohhh their is the boost! Tao was in the car with me and shared my dissapointment. He mentioned something about the actuator and that maybe the boys hadn't closed this and it was leaking. Guess what, They didn't!!! So the lag became very minimal, yay, or so i thought. While up on the hoist (3 hours i was standing their) the mentioned an oil leak, having to do with the banjo fitting on the turbo. The guys who seemed very frustrated having to do all the extra work ended up telling about how some of the holes( i think the water lines) had to be machined out as they weren't big enough. Also they mentioned a few of the parts that were supposed to be their were missing so they had to create some fittings..... Ok i thought, i'll put my trust in hypergear as Tao had arranged this. So next morning i'm reversing out of my driveway and OIL is everywhere!!!!!!! I really had lost trust in the other guys so i took the car to proteck to get it looked at. In the meantime Tao gives me a call and lets me know he was on the net and read the rb25det only had a 1ml restrictor and that the turbo he supplied needed a 3ml restrictor. I found out this is because it is a bush bearing turbo. So it felt great knowing i was running the turbo with minimal oil really made me feel good. Anyway proteck gave me a call and said the banjo fitting was all a homemade job and looked so dodgy no wonder it was leaking oil. At the end Tao suppliied the 3ml restrictor oil feed. I also needed an adapter plate and some copper washers before it was finally done properly. SOOOOO Finaly i had a quick tune with proteck and managed to get 187rwkw. I could only run 10psi apparently as the R&R seemed to kick in at anything above that. Though i will definately be gettin a nistune by status tuning in the coming weeks after i save up some money after paying a bit extra for all these problems!!!! One more thing to top it off. I got home and now my engine light is staying on. Yay. I'm getting it checked on monday, hopefully just the o2 sensor or something....

Dropped my car off today with stao at hypergear. The workshop next door will be taking my turbo on/off as well as installing the fuel pump. He will be hi flowing my turbo, around three days turnaround. Am hoping to get it by saturday though with this heat things might take a little longer. The hi flow he is doing for me is the one that was advertised around the turbo section. It's $800 plus installing and $300 for pump and install. I agree with the shift kit though am wondering who in melbourne would do an s2 auto kit$ Or do i have to order it from mv auto's and get an auto place hear to install it for me. if so does anyone know someone good around north melbourne and how much? Had a chat to trent a few days ago. Seems to really know his stuff. He talked to me about the nistuneetc. I think my plan of attack will be to get it tuned with the safc neo ( unless i get a good offer ofcourse ) and then after i get the shift kit get the nistune done. Also do you guys think it will be safe to drive at my current boost with the new hi flow for a week or so before i get it retuned? .85BAR Cheers!!!!!!

I've been around the forums for a while and thought i should finally make my first post about something worthwile! I have a white s2 stagea rs 2000, about 4 months old with the following mods: Front mount intercooler Trust panel filter 3" turbo back exhaust turbosmart boost controller at .85 BAR safc neo dynoed at Proteck at 180 rwkw Was in the market for a highflow for a while and looked at a couple of options like gcg etc. Went and had a chat to the guy at hypergear who seemed to know his stuff. I'm getting the 450 hp highflow to be installed through him as well as a bosch 044 fuel pump. He needs 3 days or so with the car so after that i'll organise to get a tune through Trent at Status tune in dandenong. Will keep you guys posted on how it goes. Also quick question, once the turbo is installed will i be safe with the current tune at .85BAR. I'm sure it is but thought i would just check!!
