  1. You must be trail braking alot to carry a locked tyre that far into a corner or is it that you had to stay on the brakes late due to an earlier lock up? I used to use RB74's. But I found that once they went away due to heat they never would come back. Not sure why. The DS2500 feel as though they have changed in the last set I bought. Alot more bitey when you first bed them in. After a few kms they reverted to how they used to feel.
  2. Would it be a bad combination? Yes.
  3. Hmm maybe Webber should just sign up to be number 2 to his mate Fernando and be done with it. Lotus are on the path to be busted arse broke so am not sure why anyone would want to go there. Hoping Kimi does end up at RB if Webber doesnt resign.
  4. The likelihood of them being bent is pretty small and even if they are Nissan arms are cheap as chips to buy second hand. So I wouldnt factor that in. Easiest way to tell is to look at them. If you want to go DIY I would remove the arms etc and then take them somewhere and pay them to press the bushes out. You can install the new bushes and refit the arms etc yourself. Then just get it checked over and aligned. Will be massively cheaper than the Nismo option.
  5. You might want to actually say how long the springs need to be and what diameter. Might help.
  6. Have heard good things about the Project Mu pads. Also Ferodo DS2500 are good too. Neither are particularly cheap - if you are not in a hurry try getting the Ferodos pads ex US.
  7. Was nice to see Fernando having a go for a couple of laps. Sort of reminded you of what F1 was like before it was ruined by shit tyres.
  8. Which will be a surprise to no one. Team cheater get away with any and everything. Cause cheaters are important to the sport or something. Maybe the FIA shoud have asked them if the rule should be applied? They used to do that in the good old days.
  9. Frank hired his own daughter. She is deputy team principal.
  10. What choice do they have. Look at how much money Lotus lost last year. If Williams did that they would disapper in a heartbeat. Lets hope their new CEO will be better than the last.
  11. If its a nice car in good condition at a good price just buy it. I never had a problem with my early model 32s oil pump. Yes the later version is a bit better (the nose of the crank has larger flat surfaces to drive the pump) but it is by no mean a reason not to buy a good car and there are plenty of other things to worry about more. Anyway you will one day want to rebuild the motor and the cranks are actually pretty cheap. Fix it then if you must.
  12. We have Hyundais for work cars. They are horrible to drive, noisy, uncomfortable. They are ugly, they have terrible handling and are falling apart. Hell the black trim inside them is now a vibrant shade of purple after sitting in the sun for a few years. They have not a single redeemable feature. Top-selling vehicles in 2012: Brand Sales Movement % Mazda Mazda3 44,128 +6.5 Toyota HiLux 40,646 12.5 Toyota Corolla 38,799 +7.5 Holden Commodore 30,532 -24.8 Holden Cruze 29,161 -13.7 Hyundai i30 28,348 -1.8 Toyota Camry 27,230 +42.1 Nissan Navara 26,045 +20 Toyota Yaris 18,808 +16.0 Ford Focus 18,586 +44.5 I think the Nissan Moron sold far more cars but it isnt listed.
  13. It is more so a move to imports just because the exchange rate makes them cheaper. Not so long ago you could only get 50 US cents to the dollar or 65 Yen. Put even half that back into the equation and people would buy alot more local cars. Where I am I see alot of Falcons/Commodores. But go to Perth (nearest capital) and you dont see any. But I also see a ridiculous number of Land Cruisers/Pradeo/Pajeros etc etc. Which kind of makes nonsense of the fuel economy argument so many people trot out. Dunno it might be that their size mitigates against ease of use in the city. The shame of it is once the mining boom is gone and the dollar returns to historic levels there wont be anything left of manufacturing.
  14. It is statements like that show why the industry is stuffed - simply because they are based on prejudice. Where is the deficiency in technology? People line up to buy shtbox Hyundais by the boat load and they have no redeeming features of any kind, no quality, no technology, no nothing. Same for the best selling car in Australia - the Mazda 3. Where is the technology there? Or anything Chrysler ever built? Or Kia or the entire current Nissan range. And so on and so on. I mean to your way of thinking what magic technological bullet would have saved the Falcon? As for build quality there is nothing wrong with the locals when you line them up against the imports anyway. Peoples mindsets appear to have been fixed in 1988. Show me a 1988 built anything and I will show you a piece of crap. What killed Ford is the same thing that is killing the rest of the manufacturing industry in Australia. The exchange rate and prejudice.
  15. Thought the COTF tanks were 112 litres or similar?
  16. Spice is the right word. Because you wont know whether or not they are driving slowly to conserve fuel or to conserve their tyres. Imagine the tension, the excitement of the post race interview. "So, Kimi, tell us about your race" "It was shit." "Was the tyres or fuel this time?" "Tyres." Unparalleled levels of awesomeness right there.
  17. So its going to be a regularity run like this years races - just instead of tyres being the limiting factor it will be fuel. Or are they going to alternate between the two to spice the show up?
  18. No. Inherent issue with the APexi ECU. Mostly becuase it is a very, very old design.
  19. Are you by any chance running a Power FC?
  20. Plain discs (Not slotted, drilled or dimpled) work fine on road cars. So just get some of them and save your money.
  21. From off the top of my head I would reckon the rings to be iron. AFAIK Nismo dont make a piston for the RB26 only Nissan. From the maual: End gaps are much smaller than for forgies. 9.4 thou to 13.4 thou for the top ring. 16.5 to 22.5 thou for the second ring. Also The groove gap is 1.6 to 3 thou for the top ring and 1.2 to 2.6 thou for the second. Finding the piston to fit is as hard as finding the ring set with a 1.5mm top ring. There is only one ring set that I have found - from JE. Maybe ACL if you can find the right size. Pistons will have to be customs (Again unless you can find ACL stuff) but not very custom really as you can just use the standard designs and modify them for the different rings.
  22. Best was 17% out to 28%. As an aside wrt the Mines baffles. The entry point for the oil into the system is at the back of the head which is not ideal - that is why you have to relocate the little covers for the cam lobes to the rear - to stop them flinging oil up into the entry points of the baffled system. I cant see how the Mines baffles are better than the stock items when you have a head full of oil? Lastly there are some interesting notes from JE about side and back clearances for rings for the two different alloys commonly available. Oddly the numbers are identical. piston_instrc2618.pdf piston_instrc4032.pdf
  23. I was always under the understanding that Toyota etc ran bigger drain areas. Maybe the attached photos tell a different story? One is an RB26 the other a 2JZ. Also, for what it is worth with a 1.5mm restrictor your oil feed area is 1.75mm2. The drainage area must be several hundred times that. Obviously the feed has pressure behind it (A few atmospheres - depends on your oil pump type, rpm etc etc).
  24. Not at all. The more people who understand the correlation between blowby and oiling issues the better. I cant find an informed discussion on ring sizes (thickness and width), materials, types etc on this forum anyway.
