  1. Actually Steve - you do need either a CAMS or a AASA license. Entry will be $75.
  2. Not sure if this is an option at all Steve but if you leave a day earlier Winton is open every Friday for Practise ($120). It's only half an hour from Shepparton. I plan on going to that Friday practise.
  3. I reckon it looked better in my garage.....
  4. I know a number of guys from Vic use the Bridgestone RE55's as a motorsport tyre and rightfully so. But since late last year there haven't been any 265/35/18's available for the GT-R guys (might be other sizes out as well - I'm not sure). So I just read about these and thought I'd post it up in here. It seems Dunlop have come out with a new tyre for 2007 - the DZ03G's (not to be confused with the old DZ02G's). I can't say I have used them but the first official outing was at the recent Lake Mountain Sprint and were used to win the event by Allan Simonsen in his EVO 9. They are availabe from Stuckey's - not sure about Donellans however. So consequently you can expect them to costs a $ or 2 more than the RE55's but could be an option for some people. I have also heard they have great grip even when worn unlike the Bridgestones which are definitely best when green.
  5. BTW - I totally disagree with anyone that says DS3000's need to be "warmed up". I think they would be a perfect Targa pad and they are what I'd use if (should I say when! ) I do a Targa. I use them for the Dutton Rallies and they are quite often a 1 stop event and they pull up on that one stop as good as anything I have used AND are still great on the longer track events.
  6. Ok I've used these tyres. (Yes the RS version) They are not a true semi-comp in the same catagory as tyres like the RE55, DG02Z, A048, R888 etc. They are more in the came class as the Falken RT615's. If you look at the UTQG rating the true R comps are all around the 40-60 mark where as these tyres I think are rated at 180 (615's are 200). Having said that they were a damn nice tyre to use and I won the Autocross/Motokhana event at DECA in a 100% stock EVO 8MR with those tyres beating modified GT-R's using RE55's etc. They will last 3-4 times longer than a real R comp but at the track they will be 3-5s per lap slower depending on the track. These tyres are classed as a street tyre in the SAU VIC club championship - not an R comp tyre. The 595SS versions are comparable to something like the Hankook 104's.
  7. So Russ - does this result put you out of coming to Vic now?
  8. I have dick envy. Everyone's is bigger than mine Except for Brisby. Mines slightly bigger than his which is something at least.
  9. I better hurry up and do that course then.
  10. Alright Russ - what happened?? My guess is engine?
  11. Don't forget the 1st one in Oz of these puppies.
  12. It's kinda cool that the 1st RHD Ford GT will be coming to Oz and James will be the 1st person with access to it.
  13. I'm so glad I have a red jacket right now.
  14. And trust me when I say that is enough laps. You will be amazed at how exhausted you are at the end of one of these days.
  15. Except that no longer being part of the SAU Vic Exec committee you lose your Mod powers to the new committee.
  16. This is the same guy that got done for driving down the Hume on his window sill on his way to the drift event.
  17. I'm running the Toyo R888's now. I haven't had the chance to give them a propper run at the track yet to full comment but in the Autocross stuff they are as good as the RE55's - if not slightly better. But I think on the track the RE55's are going to be superior. Just don't get the A048's. They are crap.
  18. They were either +10 or +12 and had 265 RE55's on them. I think +3.5 neg front camber and +1.5 rear. No guards rolled. They look good too.
  19. A guy down here just fitted some Rays Gram Lights in 18 x 10.5's to his R32 and they fitted no problems.
  20. Justin - my opinion is that matching the right tyre width to the rim size is more important than the actual rim size itself. Most of the quick GT-R's down here are running 18 x 10.5's with Bridgestone RE55's in 265/35/18's. In the past I've been running 265's on my 9.5's and I think they are too wide for the rims. Last year I know Scotsman from here dropped 1s on his lap time at Sandown by simply going from 265's on a 9" rim (R34 GTR rims) to 245's and consequently set the fastest time I know of for a GT-R with stock turbo's / engine around that track. Having said that I'm pretty sure giant runs 265's on his R34 rims. But the general consesus down here is that stretching a tyre will be faster than sticking a fatter tyre on the same rim. I'm certainly going to be running the 245's on my 9.5's from now on rather than the 265's.
  21. That's the commitment to a cause we like to see
  22. That looks great Patrick. Keep it up.
  23. Yep you get 1 warning to fix the problem. So you do have a chance if you do get pinged the first time.
  24. I have to tell you the sound of the Ferrari F430 V8 from the drivers seat of a spider version with the roof down is the most porn sound I've heard. It sounds totally different from inside the car to what they sound when they drive past. It's the complete opposite of something like the Aston Martin V8 Vantage which sounds the best when it drives past you but is actually quite muted from inside the car. So having said all this I don't think anyone can say car X sounds the best if all they have done in seen one on TV.
