  1. You can still take a hit from a lemon better than anyone else Bris. So it's not all bad.
  2. I think PI have council permits for 20 days a year of full noise. Things like the V8 Supercars and the Superbikes etc take precident over a club day. So therefore the only club days to get the permit are the ones run by the track themselves. So if you have a loud car and want to drive at PI you have to go to their days.
  3. BTW Dane - James (Golgo) has booked his tickets for this if you are still going.
  4. There WILL be DT for this event.
  5. Scotsmans best there is still 1.51 I think. Maybe he'll be happy to bet with you! The fact some of these other boys are doing 1.43's is just plain freaky. But Bris - be warned in all seriousness that unless it's a PIARC day they are now super strict on the 75dB@30m thing. Aaron got pinged late last year and his car is super quiet. Yours isn't. You might only get a couple of laps if you don't tone the exhaust down. Infact everyone should be well aware of this before they fork out the $180. If you think your car is loud either bring something to make it quiet or be prepared to just tottle past the testing station (which is on the inside on the main straight down near turn 1.)
  6. As good as mine are of doing 1.43. I'll be there and will be mainly hoping to drive the car home. It's been nearly 2 years since I was last at PI so I'm pumped to go. Mind you it's been 18 months since I completed a track day so I'm not getting too excited about any times or anything. Infact if I can get your 1.51 I'll be happy Bris.

    K, I'm Back.

Did I just hear someone cry wolf??
  8. Ryan - James EVO is 100% stock. If he spends minimal $$$ on a whiteline handling kit, an exhaust and gets the clutch restrictor removed then it will be a much bigger gap. The clutch restrictor was super ghey and meant I couldn't launch / handbrake turn at all. There is a good +2s to be gained in that evo with only about $1K to spend. Having said that it was such an unexciting car to drive even if it was damn fast. I'm sure most of us do this for fun and I just don't know how much fun I could have in an EVO.
  9. A new pair of garret 2860-7's should cost you about $2.5K which is all you will need unless you want to get some 2nd hand stock ones for $800 or something. But as a rule a good RB26DETT rebuild you should allow $10K for. I think for a rebuild with all factory parts will be around $6K.

For what it is worth the federals on James EVO were great. I think for people wanting a good tyre without getting full semi-comp either those Federal 595RS or the Azien RT615's are perfect as at DECA I don't think there is any real advantage of a full semi over them (except maybe 1s on the back track) and they will last a lot longer.

Going from RE55's to street tyres will do that though mate.

Haha - or spinning! There is no question that the secret to winning these style of events is making no mistakes. Not just in not hitting cones but avoiding spins, going the right way, etc as well. I think this is where the EVO's have the advantage in these types of events as to nail a perfect run in a GT-R (or a RWD car for that matter) you have to be so close to the point of over-cooking the turns. Where as the EVO's are more biased to understeer which will never lose you as much time if you get it wrong as a big oversteer lose will. But the only reason Gareth and Newton didn't possibly win their respective classes was errors. Make none and you'll be right up the top. But to make things a little harder for the next one since everyone seems to be getting so much better than when we first started these days - the morning skidpan sessions are probably going to lose the practise runs. We'll keep them out the back for safety reasons but the skidpans will be timed from the start (mostly to make sure we can get through the whole program). Doing this means we should be able to get all the timed runs in and keep the free time at the end which I think everyone enjoys and gives people the chance to mess about. But it means improving map reading skills.

I won my 1st motorsport event in an EVO. I feel so unclean! I need my GT-R back to get rid of this feeling of uselessness. I've won and didn't do anything to deserve it other than drive an EVO. It just doesn't feel right! I think in May Cougar and I need to make a concerted effort to right the wrongness of these last 2 DECA events. Can't have WRX's and EVO's winning them any more (even if I was driving one).

Pete - I think both you and Adam (and maybe Ryan but I didn't get to see much of him during the day) showed that you can drive sideways AND fast at the same time. It was very impressive to watch and showed a lot of skill. I think some of the 1st timers might have been a bit awed by some of the driving being done but really most of the skills have just come from being regular attendants at these days. We really need to get DavidM back as in the early days he was in a league of his own in RWD.

Hey all, That was another great day up at DECA and the level of driving ability across the field was really impressive. I believe some of the skidpan events have even been won outright by RWD cars running normal street tyres. I can't wait to see the final results as it is going to be damn close up the top. It should be a good championship this year. It is a testiment to how much these days have improved the driving ability of everyone as well as mainly being a stack of fun to do. As mentioned and can be seen in the pics it was another hot one and so my appreciation goes out to everyone who helped run the day. If it isn't for this help we can't run these days so it's great appreciated. And I will be putting together a priority list for the next event for everyone that did lend a hand (if they wish to enter). Finally a big thanks to the President James for letting me run around in his Stock Cheater Evo. Straight out of the box they are an impressive machine and once you understand them damn easy to drive fast. And thanks also to Leewang for the run in the Purple Monster. It's a beast and there is nothing wrong with it on the skidpan mate! You just need some practise. But everyone keep the pics and vids coming. They are great.
  23. Guy, technically a 12 month AASA license is cheaper than a CAMS day licnese so we just get people to get a AASA license if they don't have one. That can be done on the day.
  24. Ben it's easy. Basically it's letting the timer know if someone knocks over a cone. Then if they have knocked one over you have to put it back in place. Not overly difficult but out the back it is quite an interesting spot to watch from as you'll see a lot of locked up wheels!
  25. It seems driving is the only thing he's quick at.
