I installed my new clutch last week then drove straight up to DECA last weekend for the test day. It felt better after DECA than before!

Npoe - will be at Calder Rally Masters for Round 2 and in Germany for work in Round 3. No super cheater til later in the year.

Good stuff from everyone. Now it seems this year is going to be a little more interesting. Last year Frank was too far ahead to try and catch and Chris was too far behind to push me. Now my first thing will be to keep Jack behind me and Aaron seems like a good target to try and catch. Just sucks it's going to be Round 4 before I can get back out there.

I'll be heading up early on Friday to go and mark out the skidpan.

Due to a number of requests I've had to delete the scenned copy. Sorry guys. Go and buy the mag or come to the next meeting where I'm sure there'll be a copy or 2 floating around to read.

This is an imprtant question for Scotsman since he's the only person I know that has hit a tree whilst racing on the track (which is the only time you'd be wearing the harness).

Brisby - stay away from the 4 floors of whores if you want to stop spending coin mate!

Roy, They want to slpit the associate class up because basically the ex-pre there doesn't want to compete against Frank. He wants a trophy so that he can show it to his wife in the hope she'll be impressed and maybe give him some loving (its been a while you see). At the moment it looks like it will be split into 2 classes - 2WD and 4WD. The thing is our club also runs its own championship so we are just trying to see what we can do. We might take over all the skylines and let the "associate" classes be for non skylines. But if we take the skylines then there will be bugger all 4WD associates. So then maybe it might become turbo and non turbo. Although for your interest - since we have you and pomejo when he gets the car fixed and some more of the EVO guys coming over now we also breifly discussed last week about whether we could fit you guys into a couple of the WRX classes. But basically it's not organised yet because me and Chris and Tony and who-ever else haven't sat down and fully decided on how we are going to do it. So for now just go and drive and we'll get it sorted as soon as we can.

Catch Can - How Much Oil Is Collected?
Snowman replied to MearCat's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
For reference I have a stock RB26 (bottom end) - making about 325rwkw's and every time I go out onto the track for a 3 lap sprint I have to drain about 1.5L of oil out of my catch can. But my car is pretty excessive in this front. -

Hey Russ - your 10.85 was run on N1's wasn't it? Are you still running the N1's? And well done xrated. Very impressive. -
Where To Find/buy 2nd Hand Semi Slicks / Slicks?
Snowman replied to AzzurrA's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
I've got some 18's going cheap. Only been used for 1 track day. They have a minor flat spot on them however. -
The main track at Calder is IMO the crappest track in Vic by far. Its not overly difficult, it's bumpy in places (like the end of the straight) it's nasty if you make a mistake (2 skylines in 05 visited the walls there) and since I can do a lap in just over 60s you can guess its not overly technical. But the straight is quite fast (since its also used as a drag strip) and I reach speeds of 245km/hr. But - compared to Sandown or PI its not as fast as them. The hill and the flip flop are quite fun though. But for this rally event will use some different confiugurations such as the short track (which I've only done a couple of laps on for when I did the thing for Serious Performance 8 dvd) but also we get to have a crack at the dome which none of us have had a go on (at least in our own cars). So for this event half of the appeal is getting to drive some unknown tracks.

Also - anyone coming from the South / East should note the tunnel is listed as being closed this Saturday so keep that in mind.

Well I still don't my clutch back from QLD yet. So unless I'm 100% sure the clutch will be in and they control arms done I won't be entering. Scotsman is just being lazy.
-
Oh well thats cool. Gear changes are good. I mean I haven't busted a gearbox in over 12 months now!
-
You can't change cars mid event. You can change right upto the start but once you start you have to do the whole event in that car. But - say like what happened to me at Dutton 2004 and my car broke down mid event I could keep competing (thanks Golgo) but we got no points for the events contested in the other car.
-
Hey the Calder Rally masters is coming up in March. Thats 2 days but all at the same venue (so no time wasted in travelling) so will probably have close to the same number and style of events at the Dutton - but its $350 compared to $1800. So you are right in the value thing Roy - but Im sure we won't get the jackets or the toska bags with the Calder thing.
-
which is the track in NSW with no gear changes then? I thought there was one people do 90% in 3rd gear?

RE-OPENING OF CALDER PARK'S GRAND PRIX CIRCUIT January 20, 2006 The Nissan Skyline that won the Thunderdome Super Speedway's first feature race in 1987 returned to the scene of that victory this week to celebrate the re-opening of Calder Park's Grand Prix circuit. Though built for NASCAR and AUSCAR stock car racing, the Thunderdome's inaugural meeting, held on August 10, 1987 featured a 300km event for Group A Touring Cars after Calder Park created the Grand Prix circuit; a combination of the iconic venue's National road racing track and Thunderdome. V8 Supercar ace John Bowe and Terry Shiel drove the Nissan Motorsport Skyline (now owned by Melbourne Nissan enthusiasts Gavin and Mandy Strongman), to victory in that event and the win remains the only Thunderdome success by a Japanese-made vehicle. It was also Bowe's first touring car win. And fittingly, the car's original pilot, George Fury, won the first touring car race held on the extended National circuit in the same machine a year earlier. Unused for several years, the daunting combined track will be the highlight of this new, action packed event, which also includes drag racing, go-to-whoas, motorkhanas and other demanding auto tests. Staged entirely within the grounds of Calder Park rather all over the State as happens with touring tarmac rallies, Rally Masters will uniquely allow spectators to take in all of the action as high-performance cars power-slide their way around the various courses. Multiple Bathurst 1000 winner, NASCAR champion and tarmac rally superstar Jim Richards has been tempted by the Grand Prix circuit sprint, and says he will be doing his best to make the event on the Sunday even though sponsorship commitments prevent him from competing on day one. Strongman meanwhile will park the ex-works Skyline and compete in his beautifully presented and highly-modified Datsun 260Z. While the competition is expected to be fierce, Rally Masters aims to recreated all the run, friendship and camaraderie of the days when motor racing was a family-orientated sport, not a hard-nosed business.

They are still working with the sponsors on how much for prize money. So far sponsors want to give stuff but ASM want cash. So I dunno. I really don't know who else got in. As I said (I think) I have no say in it at all. I know everything through Nige. Apparently these guys owe Nige some favours so thats how I got it. But Russ does have some tricky stuff like the PPG gerabox so he may well have been picked for coolness sakes. Although I dont know how much that cheater gearbox will help at Wakefield - isn't there only 2 or 3 gear changes a lap there?
-
Well if I make it to Calder (fingers crossed) then I'll try and get a good in-car shot for future reference.
-
haha - entries have closed. Sif I was going to tell Benno and Frank (or Aaron for that matter) about this when there is prize money up for grabs!

And it's worth entering just for the jackets. lol
