Its funny that you say GTR drivers seem to have small balls when the tracks the GTR's are faster at are the ones where speed and commitment are what makes a fast lap time rather than pissy little tracks where you don't get out of 3rd gear. I would be sure that the weight reduction benifits of small balls would be the reason why GTST's are faster around technical tracks surely?
-
HAHAHA - this thread is Gold. It's a funny thing but it seems that the biggest depending factor on which car is faster is Latitude. The further South you get the faster the GTR's are but as you get North the GTS-T's seem to take over. I mean down at Phillip Island the GTR's are close to 10s per lap faster. A little further North at Sandown its maybe 5s faster. But as you get further North to tracks like Oran Park or Eastern Creek suddenly GTS-T's seem to be quicker. It would be great to test this theory at places like Symmonds Plains and Hidden Valley! What do you say we do these tests? Duncan? Roy? LOL But the reason why this is the case is a mistery

Who around here owns an R34 GTR? If you don't get an answer my car is at racepace - you can drop in there and measure it up if you like.
-
Thats a good point greg - you can take out ANY car robyn. Doesn't have to be the GTR. I did a Murcott motorsport training day and 2 guys in deisel rodeo utes spent the day having a ball around Sandown. Was damn funny. I have taken my daily driver out before at Winton. Didn't do the sidewalls a lot of good but it was still a lot of fun. Thats what I was going to use if I took your spot cause my GTR is in the workshop.
-
Yeah I was actually going to say I have done heaps of stuff and will happily let anyone else that wants to do it take Robin's/my spot. I said I was going to be helping out as a passenger for a bunch of guys here anyways on the day - but if no-one else wants to take his place then I surely will.
-
For reference you can see this image of my car from the Dutton where I have one of these bullet cams stuck to the side of my car just above and behind the front wheel. All held on with blue tape. The camcorder was secured to the passenger seat (via the seatbelt) and the mic was placed on the floor of the passenger side right up near the engine. Afterwards (the next day) the stuck the camera on the dash and faced it towards Gerald who was driving so all you could see was his movements.

Haha - sorry to whore but I've busted 2 synchro's on my R34 GTR from doing exactly the same thing! (One 3rd gear at Sandown - 5th - 3rd and One 2nd gear at Phillip Island 4th-2nd). Yo really have to learn how to drive those boxes properly. Its an expensive lesson if you dont.
-
Free spot hey!? The rex could use another track bashing. I'd be happy to take you around as a passenger! I was going to be there all day anyways helping people out!
-
Any chance now that we have "the numbers" I can send my $$$ and get it sent out NOW - cause Im racing Sunday week and want it installed before that!
-
But I could get one in time for Sandown (unlike my harness.) I don't know how good a picture you expect from a camera stuck to the side of a car / top of a helmet but I'm tipping it aint going to be amazing.
-
Na see this what I am after. Very cool. Can be put anywhere. http://www.spycamera.com.au/spyshop/Helmetcam.htm

Hey does anyone know where I can get one of those mini-cams that attach to your normal camera. Like the thing they stuck to the side of my car at the Dutton? I've tried looking them up but don't even know what Im looking for and can't find anything. Cause that way you can secure the cam through the passenger seatbelt legally and gaff the "mini cam" either to the side or front of your car or the dash looking at the track or even at the driver (they did that at the Dutton - looks cool). The side shots of the car at the rear wheel watching the HICAS work look awesome as well. I want one!

I met a guy this year - he was either late forty's or early fifties. I met him at Sandown. Anyways.... he has an awesome car. A beautiful Bowell Nagari for those that know what they are. Not a turbo car but still a powerfull rwd car. He has a sign on his dash board in big letters. KEEP RIGHT FOOT CONNECTED TO BRAIN. Its such a simple sentence. If more people had this sign and followed it's advise there'd be a lot less of these accidents.

I have all the cruise details and notes and will have them at Upper Ferntree Gully Train Station. The plan for the day is for a long drive to our lunch spot - then a quick side trip to go visit some waterfalls - then the drive home. We go straight out of town from the start point so there will be no joining up with people from Ferntree Gully. So as I said earlier - if people out west want to make their own pre-meet and cruise up together then please do so. Unfortunately none of the committee guys are out that way currently so some-one else will have to come up with a plan. But its not that hard - just state a time and place and people will turn up! LOL. .

Ok - Ni. You aren't allowed to have passengers holding camera's whilst driving. At Phillip Island we snuck the camera's in and got away with it. The big difference is at Phillip Island you can't see anyone once you are out on the track. At Sandown you are visible the whole time. The only way you will be able to use an in-car camera is with an approved camera mount. I don't suggest anyone risk it or else you could get black flagged and kicked out for the rest of the day. Not worth it as much as I'd love a whole lot of cool in-car footage. BTW - Maserati Day has 2 practise/passenger sessions (well they did last time) per car.
-
So now we have +10. Whats the movements? I would be more than happy to eat my words if it means having this in my hands before the 23rd.
-
Red long strap x 1.
-
Current weather forecast is perfect. Sunny and 21 deg. This is shaping to be another fantastic cruise.
-
I told you Ni it won't be organised before Sandown. Useless man.
-
I heard that if I strained my coffee through one every day it would give me added boost. (BTW - its not for me. A club member is chasing one)
-
Guys - would anyone know where I could get my hands on a genuine original Cat from a GTR? I know they have to be replaced at complience.

mesh - please don't ever ponder my ass again. Thanks mate. PS - whats news with the boat? -
Brake Pads...which ones and how much??
Snowman replied to ricknismo's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
There are different ferrodo pads. The DS2500's are supposed to be the good street pad - think they come standard on the AMG mercedes. I don't know what they are like as I haven't used them. The DS3000's are their competition/track Pad. I use them (cause my car is used on the track a lot) and they are awesome. But - when just used on the streets they are super noisey. I would definitely not recommend them if you just wanted them for the street. You would go insane. -

Yeah as I said take them both around phillip island or say over an 800m sprint and the GT2 would just blow you away. But take them both for a run through the Reefton Spur or up The Great Alpine Road and see who wins. My point was that under certain circumstances the GT2 would just kill all but the GT3 would be awesome for everything. -

mesh if you really want an R34 you can have mine. Pristine condition. Never raced. Anyways.... I have to say of all the cars spoken about the ones I give the most credence to is the Porsche GT3. I was never that much of a Porsche fan cause I'd taken both a Boxster S and a Carrera 4 for a spin and thought they were nothing special. I would never consider buying one of these cars. Then this year I did the Dutton Rally. There was a GT2 and some 996 turbo's that kicked some ass in places - but the GT3's were just the most alround amazing packages considering they are like that straight out of the box. It's now number 1 on my list of desired cars because you could have a lot of fun with one - not just keep it in the garage.
