Well I've taken the Friday off now so Im definitely going. The question is now - where shall be stay? Damn I hope my GTR is back. to any god that is listening that I can get it fixed in time.
-
Apparently me gears are in the country...... somewhere. There might still be hope for me yet!! Thats if they are the right parts and they turn-up from customs.....
-
Roy - at this stage Im still keen to go up on the Friday. But it looks like I wont be competing on the Sunday. Thats unless a miricle occurs and my parts arrive for my gearbox before then. But I still want to get to know the track so I'm thinking of punting my completely stock rex wagon around Winton on Friday for a bit of fun. Anyone else still keen to come up on Friday. I think Adzmax was still interested.

And we've thought about NT as well! lol

No I dont think $100 is a lot of money - but it is for 1 pass. Now to get people who'd pay $100 for one pass but from our initial cost calculations you are going to have to find more than 100 people that are prepared to pay that. Sounds a bit harder doesnt it! Where as I think you will have a much easier time finding 20 people that will pay over $500 to have serval goes (especially if you do more than just speed runs). We were looking at straight out speed, high speed slalom, and various other activities. I had no problems finding 20 people with serious cars that would pay good money to find out the limits on their cars.

Ok Marlin (and anyone else who cares) What I have done so far is to consider the following factors: Where can it be done? What insurance is needed? How much is it going to cost? There is very little in the way of places it can be done. I'll be honest and say when I started to look into doing this I had more in mind trying to emulate Jerermy Clarkson from Top Gear rather than just do speed runs. I wanted to do high speed drifting and the works! So basically I summised that down here the ONLY place it could be done was Avalon. Such as you see from articles in Wheels magazine etc. Despite the fact that Jetstar are now being painfull the venue is still (apparently) available. But you can't just rock on up there obviously. After some discussions I found out that the best way to go about getting it was to do the day through one of the driver training companies. That also covers the issues with public liability insurance (or so I thought) which satisfies the needs of Avalon management. The training company I was speaking to had access to all things like speed detectors, as well as toys like in car camera facilities etc. The cost isn't pretty however. Now its not a per person cost but an overall cost so you have to find a balance between number of people and the amount of time you get to participate. People aint going to pay $100 for one run Im sure. To hire out a race track like Sandown is $7,000 for the day. Plus you need ambulance etc. Airports are more. This can also be determined that if you are doing it through a driver training company there is a requirement of 1 instructor per 10 people. So the more numbers the more instuctors. For this reason I was looking at 20 cars. The technical hitch we've currently got is that the insurance company are trying to ask us how we possibly call activities where speeds can get upto and over 300km/hr training. You dont want to call it an event cause then it gets more complicated (read: more expensive) Anyways... I hope that helps.

Well midnight purple was the flagship colour for the R33 GT-R's - just like the Bayside Blue is for the R34's. Yep - in Melbourne Purple R33's are easily the most common. But not quite as common as what there are people who "want my car to be just like the Mine's R34" lol.

Not a lot thats news but Mark Webber whom I've always thought as being a bit too straight and boring personality wise has started to amuze me. Like his metaphor on him chosing a new team: "At the end of the day, though, if you've got three or four supermodels lined up, you've got to make the choice. It's got to be the one with the best package but still looks good when she gets older. " More from it here: http://www.foxsports.news.com.au/story/0,8...3-23770,00.html It's really the first time I've heard him say that he wants out of Jaguar. We all knew it but he's always been so diplomatic about his contract with Jaguar etc. Another point of interest coming up is that traditionally Renault have used their home Grand Prix at Mangy Cours to announce their following years driver line-up. Could be one less piece of the puzzle taken out this weekend if as I expect they plan to keep their current driver line-up.

Ok - if we are going to get some nice young hotties we have to get some decent tops this time cause whilst the last chicks ones were "nice" they sucked ass on the sexy factor.
-
Dave, I am already in the process of orgainising a day for later this year with Kev and Scott from Driver Dynamics at Avalon. You were already going to be coming. We have just got a couple of technical hitches that have to be ironed out.

I'm especially sensitive today cause I just sent off my non refundable $2K+ entry form for the Dutton Rally and I still have no idea if my car is going to be in working condition or not! It damn well better be or else it $2K down the :dump:
-
I sent my entry form off for Dutton Victoria this afternoon so I really need to see a copy of this footage so I can get some tips on how to gracefully knock cones over and how to expertly wave to the crowd. I can't wait. Bring on Aug 6-8th!

Ferni - the funny thing is you probably drive faster down the monash than what you'd be able to get up to around Winton but you don't seem to care then! lol You fairly hammered past on Sat after the cruise!
-
Smart Ass comments about getrag gearboxes have lead to people being left in a bloody mess.
-
Speaking from experience - I bought a car with what I thought was plenty of pennies left over - but it wasnt long before I spent them all anyways on trying to make it go faster! LOL. One way or another generally buying a GTR will send you broke!
-
There is usually one every couple of months somewhere.

Gerald from Ice Performace just sold his 95 R33GTR for $34K and it was in great condition (was advertised in the trading post). Only mod was catback exhaust. It can be done.
-
Was it just me or was this not it? Can anyone confirm when it will be on Fox cause I missed SBS and want to see it.
-
Mate - your already in along with Skylinegeoff and RBSleepR. There are some others I've seen on the track but I dont know their forum names. There's going to be a special sub division of Team Trackday called Team I Broke My Gearbox at a Trackday of which so far me and benjamin74 are the current members! lol.
-
rofl. Eventually we'll have a Vic division of Team Trackday. But right now our numbers are pretty small.
-
It wasnt too bad - I was there with Gerald and was dropped off my the Mrs. She had gotten about 75% of the way home before she got a call to trun around and come back and get us! LOL. She's a good girl!

I've actually just read that the performance clause in Webbers contract is that Jaguar have to be in the top 6 by the end of the Hungarian GP. So what that basically means is that they have to score at least 13 MORE points than Sauber (and 6 more points than Toyota) in the next 4 races. I can't see that happening. So if its the case and come the end of the Hungarian GP Webber can start to actively seek a new contract. AND if Williams are in no position to challenge for any of the championships as I expect, I wonder if there's any possibility that Montoya might get the boot before the end of the season and we'll see Webber drive the last few races for the BMW team? I'm thinking there's as little chance of that happening as Minardi taking Pole anytime soon but it might provide the only form of interest for the last few races of this season!

Speed limits were adhered to all day long. Good memories of a good days. Good work Andrew. I liked the quick view of all the cars at lunch. Showed it was a great mix of skylines.

The Pub sucks. (just IMO) Its more the whole Casino thing really. I was leaning against that big bench watching the footy almost right in the middle.
