Come on I'm used to Dutton rallies where events are over in 30s. I'm an expert at short stages!
It's the longer ones where the "are we there yet?" factor kicks in that I'm worried about
I found doing a lap of the Nurburgring pretty mentally taxing by the end and thats less than 20km's (BTG) so 30km's will be interesting.
Come on mate give SMAUG some credit - he's done a LOT more than just that.
He's blown the engine, gearbox (x2), clutch plates, front diff, rear diff, a turbo, 2 rear shocks and a tyre on the track (not all at once thank god )
Yeah there's still all the diagonals and the side intrusions to go in there - was just a running update.
And as for the roof the side-bar is my only concern as I've kept the trim in so it is across a bit. We'll have to see when the seat goes in how we go. But if it is an issue I can lower the seat because as you said I am a short ass (silly seat is lower than the drivers seat currently).
Geebuz - I just looked it up and it seems EVERY speed event I've needed the 3L catch can.
I better give back all those club sprint and Dutton trophys. Mind you there's probably been <5% of cars at those events that conform to that one.
Cheers Dunc - I've pretty much got everything on that list except the fuel sampler and the 3L catch can (mine is only about 1.5L). But they are 2 things I really didn't know about. It's hard though when the regs for the rallies I'm doing aren't currently available to know exactly what to do.
Well since the car is currently in bits I figured now was a good time to go and grind off that steering lock pin (I didn't actually know it had to be done before Jeff's post but it's done now). I also took some progress pics of the cage whilst at it. It's coming along nicely I must say.
The airbags are already gone but since the car is in it's current state is there anything else stupid and difficult that should be done I might not know about??
Oh don't worry - if he gets beaten by one he will tell you all it has a stroker whether it has one or not.
After Dutton W.A. he wsa telling everyone that Steve Jones EVO 9MR has a stroker even though it doesn't. Its just very light and runs an agressive jungle juice tune.
But he simply couldn't accept that someone could be that much faster than him except if it was a stroker motor.
I don't think I've met a bigger whinger in motorsport than this bloke (you should have heard him after Dutton W.A. this year) but some of you may want to check this out as I really can see him following through with this. I know I'm all ok but just in case someone out there isn't.....

I see Drew and Georgie have entered this event as well. They are the ultimate quiet acheivers in that little R32 GTR of theirs. Their car is pretty much what I'm basing mine on as far as set-up goes. It's a sweet little ride.
Actually you may be suprised to know that the club infact lost money on the one "ordinary" deca event held so far this year due to the lack of numbers that came. The WRX Club had to cancel theirs due to lack of numbers as well. The idea for this event was to do something different because it seemed interest in the normal events was dropping off to a point where running any type of event there in the future might not be possible. It wasn't supposed to be for the elite but more supposed to be something different to keep interest for the regulars and to spark interest in new people for the normal events. It was just safety and time reasons that we needed people that had experience.
Hopefully we'll get a good response for Novemeber or it may end up being the clubs last one.

Comments: Protect your ass without wrecking your car!!
I have a comprehensive custom made 4 point Bolt-in cage with side intrusion and harness bar that meets CAMS regulations and is fully street legal. No need to remove rear seats (although you won't be able to use them obviously) or damage any major part of your car.
It was designed and fitted by Merridian Motorsports (cage is there now) and was done for my R34 GT-R although they currently have another exact cage that has gone into an R33 GT-R and they are exactly the same size in length but this cage is 50mm narrower than an R33 cage which just means it will still fit but there will be a small 2cm gap at the B pillars on each side if fitted to an R33. Not sure about an R32 however - it would be best to contact them.
If anyone in Melbourne wants this cage Merridian will also happily assit you in fitting it. http://www.mmsport.com.au/
This cage has been fantastic and was used in my car when I won the Dutton Rally in 2007. It's only being sold as I am upgrading to a full weld in through the dash jobby 6 point cage so I can do Targa next year. I have a couple of basic pics now (not easy to take pics of in the car!) but will try and get some more pics from when the install was done in 07.
Off topic I know but to answer that questions I've driven both cars (E92 M3) on and off the race track and the M3 is a great car but the R8 is in a totally different league (andI haven't really driven anything better than the R8 to be honest as far as a complete car goes).
Back on topic for me if it was an every day car I'd go the M3 over the R34. If it was a weekend toy I'd go the other way around.
