Yeah I admit that my one previous experience with James in the silly seat didn't go all that well but I'm confident with a little practise we can't sort these issues out -

Yep using the Blue car. Already have been down to see Toby at Merridian to sort all of the safety / other generally rally stuff out (car will be down there in the next month or so to get it all done) and have also chatted to Benno about what I need to do to bring the car in-line with Rally regs which will all be done when I fix the diff. It's actually not so bad these days with the AASA rules (given things like oil coolers and radiators are much easier now). -

Yep I'm looking at this Wrestpoint Rally, Targa Rookie and hopefully Mt Buller for 2009. Not sure about trying to win the Rookie however since neither me nor my nav have any Tarmac Rally experience so really we are just going out to learn what it is about and to have some fun and most importantly bringing home the car in one piece next year. I'll probably be getting in your ear a bit over the next few months though as I try to sort all of this stuff out. Even this entry form looks daunting -

In - will be my 1st rally -
Guys fair go here. We already were well down on numbers and then I had a bunch of people pull out at the end of last week which left us with just 9 entrants. Given the nature of this event there were a few extra costs so really we needed all 20 entrants just to cover them, but we would have run with as low as 16. But 9 was far too few and we needed to make a decision on the spot in order to still facilitate a venue refund. I'm sorry but for what ever reasons there just wasnt the support for this event which is a shame as it was a unique opportunity to do some different things and for the people who have been coming to DECA for a few years now to possibly experience the next level in motorsport challenges. I'd been looking forwards to this since we first facilitated the idea late last year so I'm as gutted as anyone that it hasn't happened and the sad part is it will make the club think twice about trying some of the other motorsport idea's that the committee has been looking at.

Thought I'd dig up this old thread since the Enduro's are about to start this weekend and I heard last night that there is a completely new quali system for Phillip Island (not sure if it is being used for Bathurst as well??) But from what I was told (although I'm not sure how acurate this all is) quali for PI is going to be based upon 2 x 14 lap sprint races on the Saturday with qualifying based upon a total points from the 2 races. But there are a couple of little twists. Firstly both drivers have to drive one race each but they can pick which race each one drives in. And secondly apparently over the 2 races you only have to do one total pit-stop and again I think you can choose which race you do it in. If all that is actually true that will certainly mess things up a bit and it will be interesting to see how it all pans out in the end.

Yeah I'm not cool enough for roads yet. I'm hoping to be next year though - thats the plan anyways. Engine has to come out in a couple of weeks to fix the diff / sump from Dutton W.A so will take that opportunity to swap the turb's etc and have the car Targa Spec when it goes back together. Then we'll go find some fun roads to play on

No we can't do a normal one sorry - there just isnt the time to get it set-up and it is too close to November. And definitely NO we aren't doing the full track in November. November will just be a normal one with normal events and normal rules. And all people call Norm are most welcome to come along.

Ok - all these Rallies keep changing names which has me confused.

As in Feb 13-15?

I reckon Lewwy will get the win back. Some of the stuff he has done since coming in has been stupid and for that I generally think the guy is a twat but this time he fixed his mistake as far as I'm concerned. And I think that will end up being what is ruled after the appeal.
-
Yeah I hope he brings the car to Mt Buller. That will be a great test as it's uphill (obviously) so we'll see how the weight effects it and its all 10min runs so again we'll see how that effects the tyres. Are you doing it Ben?
-
When I last chatted to him he said he was looking at Mt Buller next but it was a toss up between that and Dutton NSW (he is leading the drivers comp in the Dutton National but a) I don't think he can lose it and b) I heard Gazzard wasn't doing NSW anyways and c) I think he might be more keen on the full rally stuff now anyways). But as for all the fanboys with the "street tyres" comments - I know there aren't any true R Comps in 20's yet but I also know Steve did a bunch of tests on different compound tyres before going with those Dunlops (I don't think they are the option ones delivered with the car but are something else?? When I was over with him at a testing day earlier this year I noticed they had a very blocky tread block similar to the Kuhmo Semis) But if you look at some of the results around the world with even things like all these cars running sub 7:30 at the Nurburgring on these "street tyres" I think we can all safely say that these tyres actually stack up pretty well to an R Comp over short runs. I know I was blown away with the lap times we recently did at Phillip Island in the Audi R8 on a set of these new wave "street tyres". But they did drop off after say 2-3 laps or say 5mins of heat but Targa West has hardly any longer stages and I think the long ones was where Steve struggled the most yeah?

Hey guys, Unfortunately our already small number of entrants has got even smaller due to a number of withdrawals in the last week and we unfortunately have no choice other to cancel this event now since it just isn't financially viable any longer. For those few that were still keen on this day we appologise and I ask that you contact Rosco on [email protected] with your bank details for a refund. Cheers and hopefully we get a better response for our normal DECA event in November.

I know Steve pretty well as well and I did say in the right hands But given last year he finished 5th right in the EVO 9MR this is a good step forwards for him.

I'm confused also. Hey Dan - what happened to Weeks in the Lambo on that last stage? He lost a heap of time (and a big lead).
-
19 stages in and the GT-R has hit the front - 4s infront of Jimmy in the GT2 and a further 12s ahead of Weeks in the Lambo. I think no matter what happens from here we all now know what we have expected all along, and that is this new car is going to be a serious weapon in the sport of tarmac rallies in the right hands. Imagine if he had decent tyres!
-
Well for anyone buying one of these cars the LCT increase just got rejected in the senate (thanks farmers!) so that should save everyone around $5K.
-
it's running at Targa West which is on this weekend so there will be pics around of it by Monday I'm sure.

I have no idea why you ever thought to watch tht video in the 1st place.....
