  5. yeah ended up getting out the angle grinder and shaving the sides a bit... just got it to fit. pain in the ass though! btw focal speakers KICK ASS!! no sound deadening and still pumps fair hard..
  6. ahk fair enough... just play cds the sound quality through the radio is rubbish!!
  7. lol no doubt..
  8. have you got the wiring diagram that comes with the head unit? i just googled your head unit and it seems as though the power antenna cable is BLUE. im pretty certain it was the same colour also for my Alpine unit that i just installed - it was labelled on the wire too which was nice and convenient.. connect that up to the GREEN/RED wire on your car's wiring loom. hope this helps Ric
  9. very nice mate, rip off the badges and the wing, and get some 5% tint, would go nuts

black s2 33 on warrigal road last night, near holmesglen tafe and a maroon(i think?) 33 gtr with sexy white rims on chapel ...
  11. yeah eastern freeway has cops, wouldn't go speeding there too often.. my gf just got flashed on elgar road in box hill the other day, just north of the whitehorse road intersection. hooning in her mazda 3 haha
  12. burke road, eastern freeway overpass.. they hide in a really tucked away driveway the cheeky buggers.. that's where i got done speeding
  13. not too deep, the cone diameter wouldn't fit in the factory spacer. so all the people on here who have said that the car came stock with 6.5" splits were high? and the so-called 'expert' where i bought the speakers telling me they will fit no dramas.. grrr.. anyway thanks for your help buddy, at least i know theres a way of making them fit. Ric
  14. as above, i have bought 6.5" splits, believing that they were the same size as the factory front speakers. i have just pulled off the door trim and the woofer cone is just too big to fit into the black speaker holder thing stuck to the door trim. what to do? :S i splashed $400 on focal splits so buying newbies is NOT an option.. cheers guys Ric
  15. Headunit: Alpine CDA 9884E Front: Focal 165V1 splits Amp: Soundstream LW 4.500 runs fronts and rears Rear: Soundstream SPS 69 Amp: see above Sub Amp: nil Sub: nil Capacitor: pfft nil Wiring: ? bought a whole bunch of stuff from autobarn, 4ga power and earth Car: R33 series 2 GTST Pics: to come... although my favourite piece of sound-emitting equipment in the car is still this:
  16. get turbo and drive granny for a few months, try to avoid cops it's worked for me for almost 2 months and get manual too, i was in same situation (only auto) and i picked it up in no time.
  17. seems like it... nice work. it's pretty much just common sense. + to +, - to - etc. fire them up do they work?
  18. if you're dead set on going to an install place then do, but it's pretty easy and theyll charge you for doing basically nothing!! i'm no expert, but your car already should have wires leading to the rear ready to just crimp/solder onto your new speakers, if you're just running them off the head unit it's as easy as plug n play! my advice would be get your mates to put them in. if you try the spacers option like usmair did, then you could take it to autobarn etc to have it installed... ive found that they always have a way of making stuff fit, eg. with spacers/extra brackets etc. something to think about, but by all means have a go yourself first it can't hurt
  19. yeah im not exactly a handyman either lol.. you can get some mdf from any hardware store to build your shelf, then maybe ask a mate or relative to cut it to shape? if not ask at the hardware store what your options are, but a car audio place wouldn't go cutting wood and stuff for you. Either way you need to replace the stock shelf as its like carboard and the speakers will sound sh1t if you install them.
  20. not sure mate as i haven't tried it yet... it will probably depend on the particular speaker you get. also i believe having a thicker shelf (making the speakers sit higher) can help clear the holes in the metal parcel shelf. i know it looks a bit crappy with them facing north-south, but with enough experimenting im sure anything's possible.

for all you stalactites fans out there, i've heard first-hand reports of chewing gum inside some souvs there one night... that's why i have never been. but hey, at least your breath won't be as bad
  22. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Fi...33-t113967.html search ftw it's all in there, im gonna be building a shelf for my 33 this week so this thread will come in very handy. Ric
  23. haha i know the feeling... i've been experimenting a bit with fuel usage recently, not sure about the kms because when the needle is on E there's still a few more litres left etc.. but i can get about 12L/100km, which for a 65L tank equates to about 540kms for a whole tank. That's with just a 3inch turbo back exhaust, and granny driving
