  1. I had a sad battery and it would get like this. Not even a click. If the voltage sags enough on turning the key, the electronics fade out and nothing happens. Turn on a light or two (parking lights, interior light) does it all brown out, when you are supposed to hear at least a click or a rattle? you can buy a cheap small trickle charger at jaycar (looks like a plug-pack, two LEDs), leave it on for 24 hours then try.
  2. there is a youtube video of a "1000 hp" r32 (looks like dyno @ croydon). it was logging 500 and something awkw the explanation given by someone connected with the car in the comments was that they took 180hp off the 1000hp "for the back wheels" and another 100 "for the front wheels" and the result was ~730hp at the wheels, making the car 1000hp at the crank, (and a 25% drive train loss). So goes to show you can say anything about crank hp you want. Pick a nice round number then work out the explanation!
  3. I'm not able to keep my stock front lip in good shape. I think it is half of a two piece part that makes the whole front diffuser.. it fits to my nismo front, but I think it is stock on the v-spec. What is a good solution other than taking it off. is there a compatible after-market front lip? of course carbon look is even better. Or how is the cost of the authentic part? (keep one for looks and one for beating up).
  4. I'm asking after the Racepace custom r34 (ugly) exhaust 4" with the two mufflers that Benno likes to put on all his big cars, or I'm told the HKS Silent Hyper "works really well". Beyond that, I've no idea. I don't really want it to be loud when just driving around.
  5. Don't say it. I keep thinking: 2.8. Just another "wafer thin" 200cc. I'm stuffed already but I could stretch for that. To round things off. And Abbey Motorsports seems to think that small difference in cc pulls spool forward dramatically. but what a pain.. What, $10k? for the kit. Engine out. pull it to bits. Engine back in. New tune. More than $15k I suppose. But first and maybe last, the exhaust. Then see where that leaves things.
  6. Or is this not what it seems http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1429296.htm $47k landed (in the UK). For a 2.8, HKS, Nur engine'd with trimmings.
  7. I had that on a number plate for a while (not in australia). "GEEK". But I think I barely qualify. People @ a red light would ask if I worked for "geek squad" (kind of a dotcom mobile PC repair outfit) and ask if I'm available to fix their broken PC. Sigh.
  8. the other question I have, and I see this over and over in the classifieds.. Why spend a fortune on modifications, drive it once or twice, then list it for sale? tuners must see these customers often. I wonder if they have a name for them behind their backs.
  9. The toshiba panel works, if it replaces a toshiba panel. A buyer with a Sharp panel bought one and said he thought he could adapt it. I can't remember who he was, I'll look in my email box. Perhaps he achieved his goal. Anyway I still have some left, if anyone has a toshiba with vertical lines or dead, in an MFD. email me, almostfreecoogee .. gmail.com
  10. If you have 700cc injectors operating at 80% duty cycle, does that mean you empty your entire typical skyline petrol tank in about 14 minutes? So if you drove at maximum speed, say, 200 mph, for 14 minutes, you'd cover about 50 miles. Your petrol consumption for this hypothetical run would therefore be about 4 mpg ? So those guys who used to drive the wangan run in 1000hp cars only had to concentrate for, at most, 10 minutes at a time? Since the Veyron has 16 cylinders, and empties its 100L tank in 12 minutes @ 250 mph, each of its cylinders needs only the direct injection equivalent of a ~400cc injector, however its mpg would be about 2. These things I was thinking on a bus ride today.
  11. a free flow exhaust makes boost come on sooner (ramp up faster) but as you say, EBC should set desired PSI. Once set psi is reached, it is the same between the two cars (although the one with the open exhaust is making a bit more power at that psi due to less back pressure). However if you look at the dyno graphs which show PSI, you'll frequently see roll off at the top end. This is where a free flowing exhaust might help, after fitting, it should stay at the target psi for longer and therefore make more peak power due to the higher psi at 8000 rpm.
  12. maybe I'm wrong but Racepace builds fairly stock engines for circuit racers, starting at 370 and going up, and they don't go bang. They aren't full of forged goodness, either. Stock harmonic balancer as well. It has been said before but is worth repeating. The difference between a hand grenade and a reliable engine is mostly the tune, not the absolute power output. Look after the tune and the rev limit, and you're just left with.. what.. oil (pump, sump, maintenance).
  13. I might be wrong but it really doesn't matter what ECU you have, power-fc, or f-con, or haltech or whatever. none of them either help or hinder the install and tune of the v-cam/valcon. My drama stemmed from two things, first, buying an HKS product out of territory. For their flagship stuff they are really fussy about that. And the second problem was unrelated to the v-cam and was just a series of poor decisions on my part about where to take the car, and to not retrieve sooner when it became obvious they were out of their depth.. If I was in melbourne and had gone straight to Racepace it would probably have been done, dusted, and with a similar result, six months ago.
  14. MLCrisis I think in the end you'll be glad you stuck with it.. the story with the software was a) Local HKS wouldn't help, because the v-cam was sourced from overseas b) Mark from Abbey sent a copy of what he uses over, but it couldn't be made to work either c) The controller was used to input a low resolution map, which worked but I've no idea how well because the tune was so bad d) Visiting HKS guy left tunehouse with the Japanese language software which was used to program the valcon properly. The map, as you know, is just RPM vs Load.
  15. The NEO has lower valves lift than a stock RB26 head and you aren't you stuck with the single neo intake cam? Also I'm not sure about what rev limit the head and cam controller might impose. Aren't there as more people putting RB26 heads onto RB25s as their are people putting NEOs on RB26? So it might be one step forward and one step back. The hks vcam kits come in 3 flavors, with the pro model having higher valve lift than stock, and wider degree change, the most aggressive cam profile, plus it is rated to 8500 rpm. Another thing I found out in the fine print is the hks vcam (like the NEO) operates on oil pressure so the stock oil pump may be on the borderline, especially if your oil is too thick. edit: I think the r34 NEO is variable, not off/on.
  16. At a wild guess it is because a number of years ago you would mod your skyline and it would become the king of the road. But now you mod your skyline and the best all-round result you can hope for is a laggy version of a stock R35. So there is less point to it. Now perhaps it is clear that a bone stock r32 in good condition is actually more interesting than some dogs breakfast of a modded car. Or. Second theory. The average age of those desiring a skyline has moved up. The older you are the less patience you have with compromising drivability for power over the last few RPM. Or. Third theory. People see the poor value of modded cars and act to preserve some value by shedding all the parts.
  17. No idea. I was assuming they were basically the same as the 2860-5s, if they have been modified by HKS for better response I'm ok with that I know there have been 2 prior variations of the 2530, prior to the -kai. Hopefully they get better each time. attached is a picture of the R1 (some N1 variant) that came out, and the ones that went in. They sure don't look much different in size (n1 and 2530) edit: looking at the picture again, I now doubt it is the -kai version. I think they are just regular 2530s ! the pictures online of the 2530kai show the housing with a big GT stamping, and a shiny placard.
  18. there were several before so I didn't know what to post. The before @ tunehouse was with the crap tune, but same mechanicals. before, as in, when I got the car from Japan, I posted previously in the 2.6 results topic: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/po...194154-DYNO.jpg Always confuses me with X axis in KPH but the power band, 1.3 bar, was from 235 to 265kw. CRD said they could fatten the mid range a bit with adjustable sprockets, power fc. but now power band is from 325 to 390kw, starts sooner, and is higher everywhere.
  19. After a series of disasters with various tuning shops around Sydney I finally have a result with my r34 gtr .. Attached is the dyno, 390kw, which is nice. But the big difference vs before.. 1. it accumulates revs like a motorbike 2. It boosts in all the gears, even 1st which makes legal street driving fun if you want it to be. 3. It feels very eager below 3000 At 4000 rpm, it is doing 175kw, and is nearly @ 1 bar At 5000 rpm, it is doing 330kw and has topped out at 24psi. From 5000 to 8000 it is ridiculous. Below 4000 rpm, the car feels much stronger than it did with the N1s @ 270kw (it should feel more laggy). mods are.. A fairly stock bottom end (Racepace stage 2 motor) but with a big sump and pump A bone stock head but with basic hks v-cam on the inlet and a fat cam on the exhaust Nismo twin plate clutch 2530kai big injectors direct wired but stock fuel pump N1 manifolds Nismo weldina exhaust fatter intercooler HKS knock monitor HKS f-con vpro (MAP) piggy back the nismo ecu HKS boost controller with A=19psi (the lower line) and B=24psi Tunehouse charged quite reasonably for the tune, they had to obtain japanese software from a visiting HKS dignitary in order to fully program the v-cam map as the controller alone only allows a low-res map. I think it was the first v-cam they had seen. Considering the mess the tune was in, uncertain state of the mods, etc, Jim @ tunehouse didn't take advantage of the situation. His shop at Marrickville is like a forensic lab!
  20. I got some helpful feedback from Kevin who is doing that replica restoration. He pointed out the uber-mint end of this market is advertising at 15m yen! yikes! there is way too much money sloshing around in this world..
  21. yeah I remember looking at that, and I've looked at it again today. I'm not sure but that doesn't look like it was a top example when purchased in Japan. I'll send him a PM and see what he can tell me.
  22. Well my dream is to get hold of a unmolested original KPGC10 gtr. I just like the shape more than the uber rare ken & mary variation. From what I see there are a couple of ways of doing this. One is to buy from a vintage dealer in Japan, and there are sites like goo-net that appear to list stock from famous dealers. The other way is to pay for a feed from the auction system and watch for one. The third way I suppose is fly over there and look at examples in person! questions.. I suspect getting a car from anywhere else, including local, is out of the question or I would have to wait a year for a good one to maybe be available? Is anyone else following the market? It seems the dealers who specialize in top examples are asking anywhere from 8m to 10m yen. Does going through the auction system save 20% at the risk of buying a p.i.g (this site edited it to "cop!") in a poke? or can you find a broker who is paid to inspect the cars in person before bidding and might nullify any disadvantage? Last question, I guess importation is easier than it was for my gtr! No compliance hassles for one, but you're paying 10%+10%+fees on the price. And then if the car is here, is there anyone experienced enough to work on it (if it needs work)? god knows I've had enough hassles with the r34 I wonder if a '71 car might be even more troublesome to maintain outside Japan. Am I about right in this budget: a 9m yen kpgc10 might snowball to 135k to get it into your garage?
  23. I dunno, that sounds expensive. I thought there would be legal representation that does this kind of thing all the time, discusses with you half an hour before the case what they are going to say to the judge, and tells you what to say. They probably deal with a dozen cases a day. I don't think that kind of service costs $3k. Perhaps that doesn't exist in NSW traffic court, but it certainly exists in the UK and USA. I'm surprised if having some appearance help in NSW is only for the rich but maybe you are right. I know you CAN go expensive, but is that the only option, have you checked.
