well, how about, you do the firewall, and when you want to hear the induction/engine noise, you wind down a window?

okay you need to be more clear with what you'd like. If you've had a set of good splits (eg focal, dls, alpine.. etc) you need to spend more than 1K. however, if you've never had a massive system, you'd probably be pretty happy with gear from the alpine type r range. the speakers make a lot of mid-bass, and the tweeters are quite large, which makes for a lively front stage, and are suited to most styles of music. the subwoofers are outstanding, they sound great and make a lot of volume, so if you want to set it up for your personal preference you can, however, if your local audio store has a sound off you can go and have a stab. We've made 138db with a single 12" r type with a crappy panasonic amplifier driving it. So you get good quality equipment with good sound. you can look at the following for packages, this is off the top of my head, and your local alpine dealer may be different. part 1 1x spr-17s R Type 17cm Splits 1x spr-17c R type 17cm co-axials 1x mrp-f600 V-power 100wrmsx4 amplifier rrp 1357 package deal is $999 thats your amp and speakers sorted Part 2 1x Sbr-122V 1x Mrp-m500 RRp is $1000 package deal is about $699 usually. so if you cant afford the whole lot at once, you can buy/layby in stages. you still need to take into account: - Wiring $350 AT LEAST - Fitment (dont want to spend all that money just to have one of your mates or some idiot burn it all up on you, or clip the asshole out of everything and ruin it in 6 months time) - and a source unit.. least 500 there too. so its kinda difficult to dream of $1000+ front speakers, when you need to look at the whole system, which is looking around the $3k mark already, without and ultra flash splits.. go down and check out an alpine dealer if you want firm pricing and to have a look/listen to the gear. It may not sound as good as your parents Harmon kardon system, but after all, its a merc, they're probaby old, and they arent going to wring the guts out of it, like most of us younger guys tend to, while we're wringing the guts out of the car... BTW- I dont work for alpine or any other audio company, it's just my personal opinion. Unlike people who work for these companies but dont tell you, but still tell you that their equipment is much better.

alpine may indeed make the unit but alpine australia is a different entity to alpine japan, it may be the case that they dont bring them into the country because they dont fit australian market or pricing structure. oddly enough, i'd reccomend a sony MEX-BT250 i think is the model, i usually sell them for about 300-350, good little unit, mic is built into the face so easy to fit... if you're planning to run subs the preout voltage is a little poor, so you might want to look at either a clarion CX509 or CZ609 the 509 being a single din bt unit with sub control + 3 preouts, the 609 being double din, bt, triple preouts, sub control, and changing colour. 509 rrp for about 450, and the 60 is about 499.. the only other unit is the alpine cde-104bti for about 499 with the same features... all nice units, comes down to budget and preference, drop into your local autobarn or audio store and have a look and ask to be shown the differences. remember, ask nicely for a discount too... but dont expect one off any alpine stock, it doesnt happen...

might be okay, I've got a silvia not a skyline so im not familliar with the inside of the door trim. however, it'd make it a prick to adjust the crossover once mounted so you'd have to take the whole trim off to adust it.. or if you leave the trims off while you're tuning i guess... sorry, just not my personal preference to mount them behind the door trim.

and unless you're trying to be a stupid bogan and put a sub in a 1970 hq holden, or using a cheap POS amp or head unit, its not going to do anything. if your wiring is correct, it's not going to make a difference. also, you wouldnt use that wire because it could induce noise, so just dont worry about it, it does nothing. it's also just a case of the person who put the item having no idea whatsoever about wiring, because that wire on the rca is ment for remote signal, not for earthing.
-
it's not a ground wire champ, ready my post. why would you want a ground wire? the outer sheath of the RCA is already ground. it's remote, to turn the amplifier on. Can you be sure its a genuine kicker kit? Are you sure you can fit 0ga in your car and amplifiers? its big cable.

what sort of car?
-
and ill post again, because i need 10 to pm.

might pay to unplug it for a bit and leave it, if all else fails its the loader mech.. thats a return to jvc for a repair unfortunately, i dont know of anyone who repairs car audio gear anymore..

It depends on what you have spent IMO. If they're $1000 focal splits, i'd mount the crossover as close to the amplifier as possible, and run the two separate leads to the speaker. if not, bung them in the kick panel for ease of access, just dont mount them behind the door skin, they'll get full of water and it will ruin them.

Pablo101 i'll refer you to my earlier comment in stating that the quality of the ebay cable is unknown and probably very poor. Most of my experience with such kits has been that they are a terrible conductor, and usually lead to more problems, like damage to your amplifiers or subwoofers due to clipping from a lack of voltage, or noise due to poor rca's. REMEMBER - It's not often ebay offers something which is good and cheap, usually its cheap and nasty, choose where to spend your money on a sound system wisely BTW dont assume what you have is fantastic until you have tried all the alternatives. Especially someone claiming that its a "3400 Watt" kit. If thats an RMS value, its physically impossible for that cable to handle that much current, you would need at least 2 0ga cables of GOOD quality material to handle that sort of power reliably. Delta Force - that wire is a remote wire, not a ground wire. Dont use it, run a separate wire for your remote, and make sure its rated to 10-15 amps. If you're going to be running more than 2 amplifiers, you may want to consider using a relay as well.

if it is a BT alpine unit, then yes you can connect your phone, it comes with an external mic, and you can choose which speaker the sound will come through. i would advise against this model, as i sell alpine equipment, and havent heard of this model before, see a specialist dealer and buy a real one.

one rule of thumb with rca leads. black and thin, throw them in the bin. they may work fine for home audio, but a car is full of noise and cheap rcas will let down your whole system. as long as you pick up a decent rca lead like an aerpro double shielded set, you'll be fine. you need to spend accordingly on your system, as long as you pick some that are about 60 for the whole wiring kit, you'll be fine. just dont run the power and the rca leads together (including the remote signal).

when purchasing you need to think about what you want from your system, and what your budget is. so you're not going to get a pair of earth shattering 15" subs for 200 (not ones that will sound any good anyway). Im sorry i dont know specifics on your car, i dont have many hondas in the area i'm in. get more specifics on what size the speakers are and what you expect from your system (ie what music you want to play) and I can design something to give you an idea.

You'll probably find that even if it states that its an 8Ga kit they'll spin a heap of silver in, being that silver is cheaper than copper, but is also an inferior conductor of electricity, and if it has a low strand count it wont reject noise as well as something with a high count. if you really must buy a cheap wiring kit, without knowing real specs on your amplifier, I'd buy a US2CH8N wiring kit from your local autobarn. usually about $59, but you can always ask nicely for a discount.

Okay, to answer the threads original question. I sell packages where i work, which consist of: 1x KFC-3514DVC Kenwood 12" 400wrms Dual 4 Ohm Sub 1x KAC-8104D Kenwood Mono Amplifier 500wrms @ 2 Ohms 1x 500w 8ga Wiring Kit 1x Aerpro 12" Box Usually RRP for about 500-600, i sold the last few for about $450. Nice sounding entry level sub, they unfortunately dont manufacture them anymore, so a great time to buy as most stores are clearing their stock. I had a pair handle over 600wrms each continously in a customers car for over 2 years now, he gives it an absolute hiding, still going. Stick with brands that have had a mainstream following for over 20 years, IE: Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood, Sony, JVC, Clarion. As long as you correctly size your amplifiers accordingly with your woofer, you should be happy, and in the event that you aren't, they'll usually help out. Steer clear of cheap imported rubbish, gear that is made to satisfy a price point only, bargain bin buying (unless its a good brand), buying from ebay, or buying a brand you have never heard of. If its only been around for 5 years its probably a good idea to research it properly first. If it claims to make 1000WRMS for $400, be very sceptical, check the voltage and THD at which their claim was made, and always pay attention to the CEA rating.
