guys, it is important to realise that this is not about our government. if you want to blame someone, blame the morons around the world (and in australia) who have thrown personal responsibility out the window and sue at the drop of a hat. the insurance firms are paying out so many of these claims that otherwise fairly harmless events such as this pay the price of high premia.
Glenn's doing a great job so far and no one can blame him for worrying. The problem is that accidents happen. E.g. yesterday at the shops, a guy near us left his handbrake off while he ducked into the shops. Car rolled forward and dented the one parked about four metres away. Under the right circumstances that scene could have turned into a real sh*tfight - not for the person whose car was dented, but the person who left the handbrake off, suing the car company for allowing him to park in that manner.
On a related note, I agree with Andrew - i want my $10 to go to the tsunami victims and rebuilding their lives. Not the pockets of an insurance firm and their claret over lunch.
Glenn, keep it up - there are people not far from here whose lives will really benefit from this.
